Interesteing. But the article was almost from a year ago. With the way things have gone this year I'm sure the idea has been scrapped or put on the back burner. But if it ever does happen then fuck yes.

Maybe they could have use the black suit for a different character. Could have been a cyborg bad guy sharing the same characteristics of Robocop which would have been badass.
Reaperwing47 but him wearing the black suit signifies that he was under the influence of bad guys. Bringing the silver one back at the end kinda signifies that he is once again the good robocop we all know and love.
They did this in one of the Robocop series or movies (not part of the major three films) back in the day. He had a friend that was a cop and went through the same process as Murphy. Forget the name but you should be able to google it if you are interested.

The 1987 Robocop looked mean, badass and like he could take an absolute pounding. This version looks like he wants to be Batman.

If they wanted fast, they should've just built an EM208 like in 4:40 and animated it like the fx team in Chappy did. RoboCop was supposed to be heavy because of the life support system built in instead of just baterries, circuitry boards and chips. It's what made the original suit badass, because it had the vulnerability of human organs enhanced and protected by mechanical parts. It was meant to be a tank.

Fan of both movies, and props you guys did a great updated and modernized version. V1 definitely looked better and I loved the gray coloring you used for it, as this actually looked a lot better than the R2/R3 fiberglass versions. Your effects were the strongest part of the movie IMHO.

Looks like a bat man suit with out the cape, heck with the stunts. The old Robocop was actually more robotic and more intimidating. Especially with the sound affects, loved it when the new suit came off and the old suit was put back on, awesome touch at the end.
This movie could have been so good. I feel like the suit creators did a phenomenal job w/ making a modernized Robocop suit. If only they'd been directed to make Robo look more beefy... more like a ROBOT... rather than a sleek man in a suit.
I couldn't agree more. In art the first thing we recognize is shape. If you were to look at a silhouette of the original Robo then look at one of the modernized version, the one that would be more intimidating, more robotic would be the original. The newer one? Not so much intimidating, and not very robotic feeling. It has a greater sense of man, not machine.
*_+StopWhatYerDoing_* The plot was set on future, they had to be realistic. Robotics technology is developing fast. I think the suit was perfect. The only thing the movie needed was a bigger threat.
Anik Mirza I understand that technology is developing fast, but it wouldn't have been difficult to have beefed it up more to give it a more robotic and intimidating feel. I was strictly speaking about the design choices. Perhaps more robotic movements would have been nice from Joel's performance, but not the exact movements or pace from the original. I'm not asking for the same amount of bulkiness Peter Weller wore, just something that looks less like a man.
StopWhatYerDoing you r missing the point in future prosthetic would be so good, that it would work and look similar to human body. We already have bionic arm and legs advanced. They r talking about the future, the story had to be believable. I know people like the original more, but that was 30 years ago. A lot changed since then.
Anik Mirza this is a movie we are talking about. An art form. They don't necessarily have to conform to the restraints of "the future". I get your point, but they don't need to limit themselves to something because it makes sense. It's called an artistic choice. Hell, in the original robocop when he took of his helmet, they took off his chin and neck guard. It would have made sense to leave it on because it was only the helmet he removed, but aesthetically speaking, it looked awful. And if he were to take that off too it would mess up the flow. So they made the artistic choice to remove it and leave out the removal of the gaurds.
Its been a few years and I still cant believe they went with that black suit the silver one was very good.

They nailed it. One of the best suits ever to appear on screen. I watched the movie just for the suit and I loved it.
Problem with the new suit is it just looks like a generic super hero suit and less like an actual cyborg body like the old one did.

i respect and love the way of making the suit. For me personal: i didn't like the first design of the (19th century) Robocop suit. But 2014 remake. I frickin LOVE!!!

That's he standard in super hero suits these days, Iron Man had it, Batman had it and I could continue for days.
@@OriginalPuro It was also how they cooled the astronauts in the Apollo space program, so that's probably where those costume designers got the idea.

As much as I love CGI VFX: This is so amazing and should never be replaced by CGI. Just because of the sake of it! :)
jurassic park proved that nothing beats CGI plus animatronics
***** Yes, CGI and animatronics should enhance each other more often, not just use one technique or the other.
Of course while the suit was real, they used CGI to further alter the body to skinny down the torso.

Which obviously would be the goal of a company wanting to convince the public that this is a cybernetically enhanced man, not just a robot with a pretty human face. I doubt they would want to show how little actually remained of the man. Does that make sense?

rob jabbaz I'm not making excuses. It's simply that the new movie makes more sense than the old one and actually makes the whole idea seem real and not just something to laugh at. If the original didn't have those cheesy tastless jokes and unnecessary gore scenes, it too could have done the story more justice. Doesn't matter anyway, I know I won't convince you.
I thought this movie was really good. While it lacked the humor and satire of the original film, the visual effects of the Robocop suit were amazing, almost seamless between what was CGI effect and a physical prosthetic. I certainly cannot wait to see what Legacy does next!
Not to dismiss the hard and brilliant work done here, but as to the shape design of the suit, there seems to be a certain element of heroic, knight-like proportion with a protruding chest that is lost in translation from the old suit to the new, replaced by a goofier, less broad shouldered, more distended-belly-type, laid-back everyman body shape, for which I believe Crysis paved the unfortunate way. That superhero shape in the original was a huge part in expressing the essentially chivalrous figure of what its creators in the story intended to be a brand new, shining and valiant law enforcement method of the next millenium. In the movie, an essential story element was also the descent from this initial alpha crime fighter armor posture and shine to the decayed, damaged, and abandoned look of a man in conflict with himself, and with technology that has devoured him, now desperately in search for his humanity, whilst idealistically striving to establish higher values in the reality of greed and corruption of mankind. Do designers nowadays think about such nuances at all, or are they simply copycats of current trends even to the point of mismatch in expression? Do they give thought to such important threads within the very fabric of the work as a whole, which inseparably bind the story and visuals together?
Wow I guess I was the only guy who liked it. I didn't go in expected Robocop 6 or whatever. I saw it as a reboot and for what it was I was entertained. But as far as visuals I think the team did a truly amazing job!
Man this looks like it's so awesome to do as a career... I'd love to be able to design some stuff like this.

Making the suit
Step 1: Steal a Batman suit from the Dark Knight set.

Its also a refference to the old movie where one of his hands was shot and when they cut the other one when the scientist ask if they should let the good hand on, this time around they let that as a symbol that he still human in a way and mix in the hand id gun idea.

I watched it and enjoyed the movie for what it was, not for what it isn't.
it is a bad reboot/remake because it is worse than the original. if the original has never been made it still would be a bad movie except for a few scenes.
+krz bra Just rewatched it the other day. I still believe it's good. even compared to the original it's a unique film. My only complaint is they should've kept with the silver suit over the full black.
The idea is to make a movie that is as good as the original or close to it, not to make a movie that is better than the original. Unfortunately I have to agree with you on the Robocop remake. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. It was Okay.

The Man From Krypton I agree, but also understand, it's harder than it seems to make. Besides, look back at the classic, the movement is not that distinct. All relies on the actor and how he makes it happen.

All that effort and it still looked like a rubber suit. Rob Bottin's original design, although more uncomfortable and less technologically advanced, looked more like a machine, much to the credit of Peter Weller's commitment to 'selling' it in his movements.
Too modern and stylish this suit , I prefer 1000 times that Peter Weller used in the 80s

Next time they reboot Robocop, please hire DECENT script writers, because that movie was atrocious compared to the original one.

This film was atrocious. The allure of the first was its excess. The violence arguably made it a better film. Also, Boddiker was the quintessential villain. Everything in this script was watered down.

They used real suits for EVERY movie. Mostly as a lighting reference, though.
@Brandon Brooks well, you're right on a lot of things man, but even with Infinity War, they still used a partial practical model (helmet, chest piece) for lighting reference purposes. All I'm saying is I hate when people complain about CGI, when even the most resourceful and talented studios fail to make it 100% perfect; as if it were something super easy to make, when it involves tons of hard work.

Terrible film, terrible deisng for the outfit. It just looks like a guy cosplaying as a mass effect character. At least the original had you beleive Weller was now my machine than man. But still, great skill in actualy putting the outfit together and an interesting video to watch. Always good to see the creative process even if I'm not a fan of the final product.
It's a awesome film and if you think about it the suits are not going to be the same that's just boring you need to think of that

Two things can make this movie better: Plot and a strong enemy with strong character. Wish they give this movie another chance
kinda hope this gets its deserved sequel that it set up. while there were the flaws it also did many things right. I liked the homage to the right hand, instead of just scrapping it for a mechanical one in the original. it was severely toned down from the original as well but what they were trying to set up was much greater and worthy of a proper take. since Alex gets his classic pearlescent silver suit back by the end of the film and the sequel is titled robocop's, I feel like it'll be a different take on RoboCop two as well. keeping it modern of course but with that hint of the 80s trivially iconic character set we all loved. if the movie gets passed the funding boards that is. Sony just doesn't feel like making it easy anymore. gotta love em. its hard to do this story justice but if they can improve on what they got wrong with this one, it'll make reboots look a bit better than Ghostbusters. *shudders*

+Panssari1981 What color does the police wear? Right blue, dark blue, really dark blue and black. Do they wear silver? I think matte black is a good choice, it gives the product a special forces look and that sells good. Just look at cars and smartphones, black and white, nothing else. And here is the problem. Everything is midnight black now and it sucks.

I don't know why people are comparing the 2014 remake with the original 1987 version. There's absolutely no excuse for all the hate. I'll give the remake a fair chance. I think it looks good in my opinion. You have to know that these guys make remakes because they can attract new fans. But if you give it a lot of hate, you're only dooming the series that remake is in.
***** The movie is fun, but unlike the first one, it is nothing special. Just another PG-13 action flick, and not the best one. People are mad because it did the first one a disservice. It's only problem is that it has "Robocop" in it.
I'm not much of a fan of the black suit. However I love the silver suit and I appreciate the homage to the 1987 look. If a sequel was ever made, I personally would have loved to see the silver suit be more blue like the suit in RoboCop 2. I don't know why, but I really love the blue armor from RoboCop 2 more than the original silver armor from the first movie and I think the 2014 take on the classic suit would look badass with that RoboCop 2 kind of blue color.
