great fish but learn more about pop eye and use an unhooking mat where possible so as to not remove it's protective slime on the net and ground. congrats on a cracking pike!
Realy nice pike. I have a question. Is there a reason why you keep the popup far from the bait? Most people have the popup close to the bait. Maybe your rig is more succesfull. Regards, Richard

I know where you are man, lived in the city for 4 years, great memories. Subscribed to your channel for more local videos as of now it seems unlikely for me to get there again (hopefully someday I will be able to fish those waters again)
I have one already ta Didnt bring as i havnt had a double out this water for many many years so the fox rage warrior medium suited me for this lake next time the 42inch will be with me
Nice fish , just a bit of friendly advice fella You need a bigger landing net.. A bigger unhooking mat .. And get yourself some indicators as fishing straight off the alarm to reel can result in a deep hooked pike !!! Best wishes
Massive Pike must be 20 pound, weighed as you say just over 13 14 pound 🤣🤣🤣 look at size of it's eye that is because it has been brought up from deep water 🤣🤣🤣
The damage to the pikes eye has nothing to do with depth/water pressure - most likely cause is hook damage or poor handling I am sorry to say. A bigger net and unhooking mat please - I've had a few 20's to 28 from where you are fishing, same goes for when you're on the rivers in the Cambs/Ely areas - I catch a lot of big doubles and the odd 20 from the waters I see you fishing - you'll regret not using the right gear when a bigger fish comes along, otherwise keep up the good work buddy. Might even bump into you one day...
Youll bump into me but i have no idea what you look like 🤣 Agreed mate not the right size net or mat for this fish i know but atleast i had a net and a mat cant say that about alot of pike fisherman i see And please note i know how to handle pike very well i did not cause that to the eye of the fish not a chance... 70cm net for a 90cm fish with a thin mat correct handling skills i didnt do too bad atall pike went back as healthy as it came out. And first double ive had from these pits in years so obv didnt expect such a croc ive heard of 30s coming out here but that was years ago an I guessed it was depth and pressure as ive had pike from deep water before with same eye bulge
@@HCRFishing The damage to the eye was already there, so not caused by you. I've caught pike and loads of zander from very deep water, vertically jigging on reservoirs. You only see the issue with eyes popping at 50 to 60ft plus, way deeper than where you were fishing. It's more prevalent with zander than pike, - also, if one eye goes, they both will. Looking at the fish you had, that's almost certainly hook damage from a previous capture - probably from a lure. Yes, a fish of 30.08 came from there, but a long time back (25 years I would say), when there was still trout in the lake. I know the guy who had it and have seen pictures. It was caught a few times at 29 and then lost weight, last coming out at 23 and then found dead. The original stocking of pike came from the river cam. Biggest fish in recent times would be the fish I had at 28 in 2019. Most of my better fish have come to deads fished at range, although I have had several big doubles and a couple of low 20's on lures - jerkbaits mainly. Good luck for the new season.
Yea didnt take it as ive had jacks from this venue now for over 5 yrs gets heavily poached i got lucky with this girl big net will come with me next time she was cared for i assure you
A 70cm wide net for a 90cm fish is better than no net. I dont mind an opinion on my small net but if youve got nothing nice to say then dont say nothing atall. Your comment was like a reply to someone but it wasnt a reply just a boring negative comment aimed at me... you wanna say anything else negative about the video. Stick your thumbs down and dont come back
my only objection is the amount of handling to which you subject the fish. Laying in the net, using two hands to hold, all remove the protective slime. My method for landing (in similar shore conditions to that in the video) is to grab by the scruff of the neck and lift the fish out. I keep a mouth opener and 12" hook remover pliers handy if necessary (and I squish closed all the barbs on all my hooks to make removal easy and harmless). If the fish is big enough to warrant weighing, I also have my scale handy. Once weighed and photographed, given a tummy rub and pat on the head, the fish is back in the water in 30 seconds or so with no slime removed from the body. I compare the spots and belly line in my photos and have in fact caught the same fish a few times a few weeks apart; it is nice to know that gentle handling contributes to continued life for the fishies.
We cant all be perfect...fox rage 70cm thats long gone i have a bigger net now do apolagise if i offended you with the net fish was looked after to best of my ability

Do pike live in deep water like that? I thought they tend to follow the bait fish and stick to the shelves and margins. Great video mate.
People catch pike at Rutland water in 80+ft deep so i guess they do live in the deep mate yes this pool is only up to 30ft max
