47 years on from his first title and he’s still got it
He stoped racing formula cars in 1996, but his career ended in 2009 in the porsche cup. And he's giving support to the sons Emerson and Vitoria in kart now.
Yes you can tell by the way that engine is singing.
@@jeffersonaugusto7280Sadly his sons and grandsons are not as fast for some reason.
Those black Lotus cars in the 70s and 80s were gorgeous!
Today's F1 cars might be faster, but when it comes to looks, they can't hold a candle to F1 cars of the late 60s through the late 80s.
@@frankhoward7645 that's not true. Some older cars are ugly, but opinion is what matters.
@@hugocorreia7519 Show me an ugly F1 car from the late 60s through the late 80s.

Frank Howard i have to give it to huge mate people have different opinions altho that might not suit you and that opinion that someone else had shouts by any means be respected
This was the car that when I was 7 years old made fall in love with motor sports. I just thought back then a boy of 7 that the car was beautiful and still do now.
That's a great looking car
Me too. Still the best looking F1 car ever.
One of the greatest drivers ever in one of the greatest cars ever - heavenly!
I still think he's the most underrated race driver in history, not just in Formula 1, but in general. It's crazy how much he achieved in over four decades, and I feel like not enough people recognize that. He could have easily won another one or two F1 championships if he had stayed with McLaren. And he seems like one of the nicest guys too 😁
@@murphymoerf Yeah, that's a shame. He was an absolutely great driver in his prime. Actually, he had the opportunity to join Ferrari after Lauda's huge crash, but he refused that. Well, I think that if he had accepted it, James Hunt would never win a world title haha
Couldn't have said it better!
I watched a interview he had before this lap and it was so beautiful his emotions for driving it again
One of the best sounding F1 cars
At last! A real formula 1 car witth a real F1 driver!! Emerson Fittipaldi one of the greatest!!!
The Lotus 72: the best and most beautiful Formula 1 car ever!
The 72 was always - for me at least - the first "modern" F1 car.
Emmo - a brilliant driver.
Oh my lord those pops from the exhaust are absolutely incredible
Nunca houve e nunca vai haver um carro de F-1 mais lindo do que a Lotus 72D!
Verdade é um carro muita frente de seu tempo ♥️
Those rear tires are dummy thicc
Uh engineering demands what it does, the size and function are gorgeous.
Anyone know the exact size?
ritwht DAMN, THAT’S A THICC ASS BOI
@@NippyMoto far larger than 6.69 inches
Two Legends !
It`s always a pleasure to watch the great Emerson Fittipaldi, brazilian like me, driving a race car. In the early 70`s I became a motorsports fan because of him and the fantastic JPS Lotus 72 D.
Driving it like he was still in his prime. Amazing.
Absolutely gorgeous - saw Ronnie chucking this thing through the old Woodcote Corner at Silverstone in 1973 - totally breathtaking. Was also fortunate enough to spend 6 days at the 1974 Monaco GP when Ronnie won in a car that was slightly past it's peak - but he wasn't. I'm torn between the 72 and the 79 as favourite, with the 78 a close third. Thanks for putting this up.
You *are* privileged to have seen Peterson drive, let alone win Monaco in an inferior chassis.
To me, the choice between the 72 and 78/79 is a no comparison. You only got 1-2 seasons from the 78/79 chassis. But you got 5 years of winning races from the 72 and would have won more if not for Stewart's 003 and the M23. The 78 and 79 chassis had no serious competition - only engine reliability stopped a championship in 1977.
I was there too - one never forgets
Can you imagine that "thing" in a flying lap? simply fasntastic
Was given a model of this car for winning a design a car competition in the kids section of the Daily Mail when I was fourteen. Then was given the real car to restore the chassis on 30 years later after it was crashed by Emerson at Zandvoort.
This is still the car of my dreams!
🇧🇷😍🏎️🏁🏁🏁 Grande Emerson! Orgulho Brasileiro! Great Emerson! Brazilian pride!
The most beautiful F1 car ever in my opinion. Emmo and the Lotus 72 JPS, made for each other to win.
watched it after driving this beast in assetto corsa :D sounds same
One of the best open wheel drivers ever.
Probably the most beautiful F1 car ever, immediately followed by the 1966 Lotus and the 1983 Brabham.
Gosh! That Ford Cosworth V-8 is so sick!! Love these cars.
Damn those pops
Que carro! Que piloto! Uma combinação perfeita!
Lovely legendary Lotus 72 with Emerson onboard...🏎️🇬🇧🇧🇷🇨🇿
This car sounds very sinister. I remember when I heard it for the first time and that was when The Stig drove it on Top Gear, one of the best F1 cars driven by one of the best F1 drivers.
My grandpa worked on that very car 👍🏼
The most beautifull F1 car!!
Grande Emerson.
I love how "1972" this '72 F1 car looks.
O Fabuloso Fittipaldi no seu fantástico Lótus F1.
Fantastic!!
Wow!
Emerson was a fantastic test driver and honed the Lotus 72 to the 1972 title. Could have won in 1973 with better reliability in Austria, Sweden, Britain and less impetuosity in France when vying for the lead. Also had a wheel failure in Holland which injured him for a couple of races. Then he left Lotus and Ronnie never was a good test driver so they had to wait for Mario to come to get back to winning with the Lotus 77, 78 and 79 - all looked beautiful in black and gold. Lotus and Fittipaldi divorced too soon , they could have won so much more with each other....
Fittapaldi didn't need Lotus to win more world titles. He went on to win with McLaren.
The exhaust 😮
is die mooi, of is die mooi..
geweldig en in die kleuren JPS
Amazing
Essa lotus na época voava muito. Saudades ! SS
If you dislike this video there is something seriously wrong with your head
Sounds much better Like F1 Cars today
John Player Special livery. The sexiest livery in the history of Formula 1.
Vintage treat!
Is that Fittipaldi’s first time back in the 72 since 73?
Nope. Saw him demonstrate the car in Aspen/Snowmass CO at LOG 27 (2007).
First time since the 70s tho in this chassis which he won the world championship in...
@@furi7619 Nope. The chassis he drove in 2007 was the one he won the championship with. It was chassis 72/5. I remember hearing that he was attached to this particular car for that reason and he shuddered at the thought of damaging it.
DFV sounds like a million bucks.
That is such a ridiculously cool-looking car...
Why can't there be an F1 car that drives like the current cars but sounds like that!?
Because the FIA is hellbent on ruining F1. And they’ve just about done it.
Regulations, everyone is going green
Would love to see a match race in vintage cars: Fittipaldi vs Andretti
After so many years.
The rear wing on that thing looks mean af.
Essa lotus é linda
I'd love to see someone hammer one of these old F1 cars around the current Nurburgring and see what time it does.
🏁🏁🏁🏁👏👏👏👏

Lotus 72...powered by SIDEBURNS!

Back when F1 cars looked great, sounded great and the drivers had skill, charisma and huge balls. (unlike the spoilt moaning children like Hamilton and Vettel today)

@@Eeter26 perfect answer
In the last frontal shot of the car, it looks like the rear wing is a bit sideways... probably my eyes playing tricks.
Just a Engine with wheels.
Exactly. It’s likes Savile Row suit around the driver. Close fitting, beautiful, but sadly deadly if all goes wrong. An era never to be repeated, for good and bad.
You forgot the fuel tank.
Pretty emotional reunion for Emmo: facebook.com/skysportsf1/videos/vb.171398419619795/392887924684392/?type=2&theater

Isn’t that the car Helmut Marko lost his left eye to?
No, Marko lost his eye in Clement Ferrant 1972, driving a BRM P 160!
pezzyy9999 I mean the car which picked up the stone?
@@nolibtard6023 I dont know which car/driver picked up the stone?
pezzyy9999 the one Fittipaldi drove, so prolly this one
If they were racing those cars now in F1, I would be interested in watching. The current cars hold zero interest for me.
lotus 72 driven by 1972 world champion emerson fittipaldi who at the time of this video was 72
hmm
Not his best effort.
😆. He gave it some stick those old cars are dangerous!
