    So awesome to see Emerson talking about Mansell. Class act. He told that to Senna as a caution in some f1 race if im not mistaken.. something like "careful cause he is not afraid".

      Yes, Senna explained to Emerson in 1992, in a one off test with Penske that Mansell had incredible car control and a never give up attitude. Senna driven one those Penske Indycars and expressed how nice it was to 'drive a real racing car again' I'm sure if Senna knew well in advance that Mansell was driving in Indycar the following season, we would've seen the best Indycar season of all time in 1993. It wouldve been absolutely hillarious seeing the two best recent drivers back then (on paper) in a different category to f1.

    I remember 1993 because I was huge Bobby Rahal fan and I remember being devastated that he didn’t qualify. The race itself was cool and Raul Boesel led early and was in contention. I liked him too because he gave me an autographed hat a few years before when he drove the Domino’s Pizza car.

    Emmo had competitive cars for 4 seasons in F1, 72/73 with Lotus, and 74/75 with McLaren. He won the championship in 72 and 74, and came as runner-up in 73 and 75. Then he won the Indy championship in 89, and the Indy 500 in 89 and 93. What a legend!

    Along with Gilles Villeneuve, Mario Andretti is certainly the most likeable and authentic man in the history of motorsport. His modest origins certainly have a lot to do with it. Long life to his person.

    That was probably one of the most stacked entry list ever at Indy !

      @neilwooding3401 Год назад +3

      Yep. Those three plus Al Unser Sr and Jr, Luyendyk, Sullivan all winners. Cheever future winner. Tracy Vasser Johansson Piquet Boesel Gordon Guerrero. Stacked indeed

      @@neilwooding3401 And let's not forget that A.J. was also going to run that race, but after Robby Gordon crashed one of his cars on pole day, he made the decision to retire from IndyCar racing on pole day. There was also hope that Johnny Rutherford might also get a car capable of making the race, which would have been his 25th, but that fell through. The prior year, you had almost all those drivers, plus Rick Mears, Tom Sneva, and Gordon Johncock, as a record 10 previous winners qualified for the race in 1992, not to mention those that would win the race in future years (including Al Unser, Jr., who got the first of his two Indy wins in '92).
      But as far as the number of top tier drivers goes, no less of an authority than long-time Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson cites the 1967 line-up as the best ever, because you had many of the top F1 drivers of the era in that race joining the established IndyCar drivers of the day, and to spice things up even more, future NASCAR greats Cale Yarborough and LeeRoy Yarbrough were also in the '67 line-up.

    Emerson was also booed at the finish because he drank orange juice instead of the traditional milk. He was trying to promote his brand of orange juice he was making in Brazil.

      Yes it does....Andretti Autosport would be a very welcome addition...F1 should always be evolving & changing with new teams...Dullards like you & the greedy current teams merely make it a boring & exclusive sport...
