While I generally agree with Locke's observations , I believe he has erred in presuming that reason is something absolute and universal as if it were a simple mathematical equation without taking into consideration the influences that the curcumstances of an individual's life have upon their reasoning. I suppose it is true that any given person's reasoning could be mathematically quantified if provided all of the appropriate variables but a single equation would take an entire lifetime to solve, which is why 2 men of sound mind can pursue the exact same object for 2 competely different reasons or follow 2 opposing paths for identical reasons. Therefor, his presumption that reason is somehow indicative of any specific direction is fundamemtally flawed. Reason can and should compel an individual to arrive at a single inevitable conclusion however it cannot logically compel all men to reach the same destination.
