I am 6’1 and had to move from a seat on the main stand because my knees were crunching the seat in front of me. It was so tight I left and one of the stewards asked where I was going and I said it wouldn’t be possible to sit like that for 90. He took it upon himself to rectify the situation and put me in hospitality. It was really an incredible experience and first class from Liverpool FC to do that for me. On the subject of the KOP, I hope they can figure out a way to enlarge that by 5,000. Maybe have the road go under the stand. They have stands like that here in America. I know they built the KOP bar recently but the stand needs to rival Dortmunds yellow wall. YNWA
I believe further expansion would require public transport and other infrastructure to be improved first. If the SKDS is redeveloped I would expect a similar stand to the new main stand. Would probably require the purchase or at least one row of houses but they managed to get that done for the main stand so it is possible.
The KDS will be expanded. LFC own over 60% of those houses directly behind the stand now. Once they squire 100% then the plans will move forward. It will happen, but it’s a waiting game. AR was as well. It’s the Kop that’s the unlikely stand that may not get expanded, and not many will kind that as the Kop has a special place in Football as a whole.
Funny you should say about the cramped seating. My team - Port Vale played here in the '91 league cup. One of the strongest memories have is my uncle REALLY struggling to sit down, we were in a section of the KD stand given to away fans, I vividly remeber the wooden seats and my uncle who is 6.2" cursing the lack of space! Great videos KC.
Them houses will have to go eventually, it’s ridiculous they demolished thousands of houses around there but left all the ones around Liverpools stadium.
I’ve a season ticket in lower kenny. Fortunately I sit on the end of the row so leg room isn’t an issue for me. At half time the concourses are rammed. I get moved from me season ticket seat for champions league games. I sit in lower main stand. Considering the vast difference in facilities and comfort I can’t understand why the ticket prices are the same.
We (6 of us who have sat/stood together since the 80s, or in mine and my brothers case; the 70s) got moved from our seats on the second to back row of the Sir Kenny Stand to better seats at the Kop end of The Main Stand in 2017 when the wheelchair platform was installed in the Sir Kenny Stand. Our first game there was Mo Salah's first home game. Considering the upturn in the team's fortunes since that season started and the better view of the pitch, it's turned out well for us. But it was uncomfortably cramped with all of us sitting together in the Sir Kenny.
Those houses on Skerries Road are well maintained and are in excellent condition. It would be criminal to even consider knocking them down now, even if they could. Walking along Skerries this last week, i noticed how many proud Liverpool supporters have black plaques on the front of their houses, with it's house number and the Liverpool crest. Maybe some time in the future it may be possible, but not now.
Definitely needs redevelopment. The room between the rows is ridiculously narrow & the seats are far too close together. A horrible situation as far as fan comfort is concerned & the concourse isn’t fit for purpose
As I remember the lower tier is the original from the early 70s as ridiculous as it sounds people were shorter even then. This would be the best place for safe standing
I've never sat in the SKD stand, or Centenary Stand as it used to be called. But from what you say about the space between the seats... I hear ya, I'm 6ft 2ins myself, but I'm kinda overweight too because of my mobility issues, so I would find it uncomfortable too. I have experience from getting my knees crunched on the seats in front on trains and buses. Through the generations, peeps have got taller, through genes, changes in health/diet. From what you're saying, that stand needs rebuilding, even if it's just on the same foot-print. The terraces are no longer deep enough to suit the average body height, that's not just something that they can change by having a different design seat. If it's to be rebuilt on the same footprint, there needs to be a study done on how to maximise the space, how to design the space more effectively for todays needs, and how to use it efficiently. E.g., the first thing that peeps will want to do is use the toilet/wash their hands (cos they've already had alcohol before kick-off so they'll be bursting), THEN get food refreshments (cos you don't wanna be carrying your refreshments/pint into a toilet stinking of piss and nob-cheese. Having a pathway where this is the only way to get served food, will funnel the crowd to an acceptable rate which the snack bars can handle. From then on have the snacks on the concourse, or back in your seat in the stand. Wi-fi, needs to be available anywhere in the stand as does the capability that mass mobile-phone-calls can be made, 1st half highlights on screens, half/time commentary available through the speakers etc. THEN, there is the interior brightness/colouring access to light. These old brick-stands which look like wings of prisons are the past. Immediately, in the interests of the tenants not wanting the layout of the area to change, Liverpool F.C. could use the dimensions of the car-park behind the SKD, make the car-park underground, beneath the stand. If the facade of the back of the stand is glass, that reflection of light may be a way of getting around peeps right-to-light. Of course, the glass should just be reflective, peeps on the inside of the stand should not be able to look out of the stand into peeps houses, invading their privacy. So if the glass was one way, so peeps in the houses could see into the stand, but pissed -up fans couldn't see out, that might be a way forward.
100% re how uncomfortable the SKD stand is. I've been trying to look for the regulations re seating spaces in new build stadia but didn't get anywhere. I'm sure that I heard that there is now a minimum leg room requirement in all new build stands/stadia. Do you know whether LFC had to adhere to these regs when redeveloping the main stand or did they keep the old spacing in the lower tier and only provide the minimum leg room requirement in the upper? And with regards to the houses behind the SKD surely LFC should buy them up when they come on the market and rent them out until all of the required houses have been acquired. No harm, no fuss. It'd take a long time, no doubt, but it must be worth it in the long run. Really enjoy your vids and look forward to the next one.
It’s only around 40 houses. That’s a very very small housing build. So surely lfc could build a small estate and relocate people of of the area to somewhere a million times better. Or relocate them into an empty house local they could buy and do up nice for them if they are silly enough to stay local lol
From the first row to the last brick carrying the roof of the new main stand it's just short of 75 meters deep. From the first row of the KDL-stand to the wall seperating the parking lot from the gardens of the houses behind, it's not even 60 meters... i think the only way to redevelop and expand the KDL stand is with entrances and exits being on the stand's ends on A5089 and Anfield rd, rather than the long stretch with the houses. Although i'm not very confident about that because of UK building and safety regulations i'm not familiar with. In general i see more potential in the redevelopment of the Kop right now which is only limited by the street(A5089) behind it. That means you can go for a 100% all safe-standing Kop and make it as steep as the southern stand in Dortmund or Milan so many many more people will fit in.
I think they could expand the Kenny Dalglish stand, if they buy the houses then rent them out again until all the houses are bought, then give fair notice then knock them down, this would stop any property’s falling into disrepair.
Good idea. We should destroy the local community, so we can cram more fans into the stadium. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time we've done it. F**k the locals, we are Liverpool FC.
It will be expanded. There were many rows of houses that have gone for the expansions of the main stand and a field road also had many house behind it until recently. Lfc really need to be buying up those houses and getting ready to expand. Either that or it’s been pretty pointless expanding the main/anfield road stands. As 60,000 is far too small for any club that sees itself as a big player. Maybe lfc and the backward Liverpool labour council just still don’t see themslves that way🤷🏻♂️
You’re right, not everyone is willing to leave their home especially for an American billionaire. They got CPOs when the stand was originally expanded in the early 90s and still had to wait for two sisters in their 90s to eventually pass away
The bottom seats in that stand is the The Kemlyn Road remainder (built in the mid/late 1960s) ... all they did was add some seats on the top of it with a new roof and called it The Centenary Stand in 1992. What they should have done was knock the hole of the Kemlyn Road Stand down and build a brand new stand ... they did not do that ... even at the time of The Kemlyn Road stand everyone knew how close the rows of seats were ... they had A Great Oppertunity to change that and they DiD Not !.
Although it’s good that modern football stadia has update facilities and is safe there tends to be a bit of slap dash in the standards of construction where as they don’t always allow for adequate leg room and it’s been noted at old Trafford and I do think that they should bring back standing in some areas as people tend to stand when they should be sitting like behind the goals in lower tiers as they have that system in place in the German Bundesliga and they always seem five to ten years ahead of the UK so I hope the club owners and authorities in the UK get their act together and sort out the occurring problem
We can go up to 69k without any issue for transport infrastructure. The yanks want more revenue! The more corporate boxes etc We were never going to move to Stanley park with these owners based on their history with Redsox. It’s much much much cheaper to refurb Anfield than build a new stadium in Stanley park, which would have caused less disruption to the locals. In an ideal world we need to do Skd & the Kop.
It will be expanded. The AR end had the same issues with houses. It just takes time. It’s the Kop that can’t be expanded. That requires alterations to an A Road and properties.
I agree with everything you have said about the Sir Kenny Stand, it does look good but it is bloody uncomfortable in there and I am that 5Ft 11inch man you mention, The concourse is also very much a1970's relic and the poor man's or should I say destitute man's version of that of the Main Stand and I presume the new Annie Road End, Yeah you got the history right when the Century Stand was built it was just the old Kemelyn Road Stand and then a new 2nd tier added on top plus a row of executive boxes and anyone who sat in the old Kemelyn Road Stand will all know about that particular handicap we all suffered with " Kemelyn Road Knee " I have heard that FSG areclooking to remodel the lower tear and also modernise the concourse but this will reduce capacity and might remove up to 3,000 lower tier seats. Its not possible though to just take the roof of the Stand and build a third tier because that would impact the right to daylight for the houses in Skerries Road so unless we do buy out those houses and move people I just don't think you will see a further extension or expansion of that Stand, it will probably get a lower tier redevelopment removing seats and capacity but a improved and more moder concourse area.Anfeld though might see a new reduced Capacity of 58,000 which in turn would increase the pressure on redeveloping the KOPwith the aim to add a further 7,000 seats on to that Stand and for it certainly height wise match the Annie Road End. Not sure how you do this I am not a architect but I suppose a 2nd tier or redefining the slope on the kop plus extra height and the corners filled in, A study on the corners has said each corner alone could add a further 2 500+ seats .Anyway discussion points once the Annie Road is done and FSg have redeveloped the lower Sir Kenny. Then our capacity will again be below the 60,000 capacity that FSG commit to back in 2012 when discussions of a new ground in Stanley Park or A redeveloped Anfield was all the rage and after the lies of Hicks and Gillet , I can't see anyway the Sir Kenny can get bigger capacity wise any development with clever architects would have to be on the Kop and the corners between the Kop and the Sir Kenny as well as the Kop and the Main Stand. But behind any of this and a further capacity increase to 65,000+ would first require residential support and a infrastructure around Anfield which would support extra traffic needs for a larger stadium capacity
Absolute tosh. The SKD is 2 stands, lower and upper. The lower is the old Kemlyn. The club would have to take about 10 rows out to reprofile the lower tier to give greater leg room. That's 2500 less seats. The Upper is relatively new built in 1992. Ive sat there since it was built. The seat spacing is good and the concourse wide.
I get what you mean about being too tall I had my knee caps almost up against another blokes back last time I sat there, I think a fair compromise if they can’t renovate or expand the stand would be to lower ticket prices for that stand perhaps
I do agree that comfort for the supporters is very important and should be given priority over finances.I'm five eight and even I feel like I'm squeezing into my seat.
Anfield Road stand should have been 3 tiers like the Main stand. And then in the future if they could they should have made the Kenny Dalglish stand the same as the main stand .
Kevlar me lad. I hope you are well. In Liverpool for the weekend for the legends game tomorrow. If I see you strutting your stuff I’ll be sure to come and shake thy hand. Have a great evening.
I found the exact same issues as yourself, being 6ft2 like yourself sitting in most parts of anfield are uncomfortable, unfortunately they have gone for maximum capacity rather than fan comfort. It’s the Same story in a lot of the grounds of this age. Old Trafford for example. I always prefer going away just for that fact your stood up all game.
sorry i dont agree , i think there is something in place that maybe we dont know about , i really dont believe theyve done all this and not do something with the other 2 stands it just wont look right if they dont they may as well of built a new stadium, for that reason i think something will happen.
I agree with you on it not being comfortable. I have sat lower tier in main stand higher tier in sir Kenny dalglish stand and not much room in either. I sat I m1 for the legends game and that was very comfortable but I believe match day tickets for there is £500 plus
I’ve never thought of it in those terms but your right it’s like going into a hotel and your getting three stars facilities while someone is getting a five star experience but paying the same as you . I can’t see how we develope that stand to increase capacity as long as that row of houses are there to go up you must also go out . I know your not talking about increased capacity so a refurb to make the experience more agreeable with the main stand you could work on the concourse I think you could sacrifice the car park and extend out to make room you could even consider going down and under a bit ? I don’t know the ironic thing about a club like ours is if we by some miracle could treble our capacity we would fill it . That must be something that runs through the minds of our owners the money they could make if they had the room . Great vid bro best wishes from Ireland 🇮🇪
Also, The Kop looks remarkably small and an iconic stand like that is now the weakness of the ground . They should have built a new ground although 61k is a decent effort.
Hi Kevin the Kenny stand done when the house where there i think it will be done at some point then make the kop to 25.000 love the voice over thanks so much again
People are getting bigger. By height and weight. Its something club's building new stands or stadium should be taking into account. I support FC United of Manchester. A Fan owned club, When we built Broadhurst park our new stadium fans said they wanted bigger seats and more leg room. Because we own our own club we got what we wanted. The seats are great with a high view over the seats in front. So it can be done when profit is not the driving force. God bless the 97 we should always have them in mind when designing any area for Fans. Because if its not comfy its not safe if its not safe. Well we all know what could happen again. Great video hope someone listens.
Remove the roof, expand the top tier left side and right, the extra seating this would provide would ofset any lose of capacity from reseating the lower section to give fans abit more room. Any increase in height to add more capacity is possibly not possible without purchasing properties behind the stand (properties the club once owned btw). Without adding any height to the stand they should be able to extend out upto the brick columns to add more concourse space.
Don't take this the wrong way. But as a blue I think Liverpool fc should have built a new stadium of around 80.000 they would have easily filled it. There now restricted to 61.000 after Anfield Rd expansion its still not enough.
Anfield is gonna look disjointed and unfinished.. 2 massive stands then 2 old small 90s style stands. Unfortunately I think that's the last of the building well see.
No point at all only doing 2 sides of the ground it will look shite they need to have it looking the same all round so whatever needs doing they do it and if the fans are true fans they won’t mind also they got a good deal out of it and we ain’t just redeveloping the stadium they are redeveloping the surrounding area , they need to do it otherwise why your neighbours are building a fantastic stadium and the spurs old Trafford will will get done soon then Newcastle we will end up having a shit looking stadium if they leave it and don’t change it so it all looks the same
I consider, if this stand would be expanded only FSG would buy the row of houses at the back of the stand, only the first row, and could have 2500 new seats at most. Not a big expansion. To make this possible, FSG should buy that row of houses and give to these neighbours some grounds next to the lfc official super store so that they don't go too far and lives at the same zone.
I can barely believe I’m seeing stands being demolished than I saw being built and for years were considered ’ultra modern’ but football in this country has moved on quantum leaps. It’s as much about foreign half and half scarf day trippers if not more than a bunch of kids going with their mates. It is what it is and there’s no point wishing for the past but now in a America the shelf life of an ‘ultra modern’ state of the art stadium is about 30 years! Something bigger , newer and shinier always comes along and makes your old banger look like a pile of scrap. Ask Man Utd.
If you grew up in your house with your parents, then had it passed down to you when they died and you went on to raise your own children in that house, would you really be happy to sell the location of all those memories to a multi billion dollar corporation for a bit of cash?
What's so difficult about giving the owners of each property in that road a million pounds, get them to sign a non disclosure and going on from there? I expect there'd be a few greedy c***s trying to take the piss.
That’s nonsense. The main stand cost £60m to build. If you had to buy 3 rows of houses with 10 houses on each row for a total of £30m you’d already be at half the cost of the new main stand. Never gonna happen
With all due respect is comfort really that important? Surely we need to make the best out of the limited space we have. Real football is going to a stadium surrounded by terraced housing and the gangways stinking of piss.
I’ve a season ticket in lower kenny. Fortunately I sit on the end of the row so leg room isn’t an issue for me. At half time the concourses are rammed. That is your reply. Get some class.
Glad you were taken care of. 👍

That’s interesting, out of all the SKD season ticket holders that have commented, you’re the only one to disagree
I’m season ticket holder and under 6ft , and your right , they need to take 5 rows out remodel it
Kevlar me lad. I hope you are well. In Liverpool for the weekend for the legends game tomorrow. If I see you strutting your stuff I’ll be sure to come and shake thy hand. Have a great evening.
Build on top of the Kop, then you can re-do the SKD stand and make it more comfortable.
Could Liverpool not think about lowering the pitch into the ground to create seating around the front areas ?
I’m 6’2 in the kop for all the cups, not as bad since most games the kop is stood up a lot but I know exactly where ye coming from
Remove the roof, expand the top tier left side and right, the extra seating this would provide would ofset any lose of capacity from reseating the lower section to give fans abit more room.
I wish I could get a ticket.
Was 50 297 in que last time.
Most people leave their house; if you give them a hundred grand and a new house, they'll all take it
But you will still get people holding out and people won't accept the initial offers as the ones holding out will be offered more.
I consider, anfield must have 65k seats at least. 61k seats it's not enough.
If all 4 stands eventually get redeveloped and expanded it’s basically a new stadium anyway
@@DCC114 yes but they’re not. So it won’t be.
I think eventually they will buy out more houses and redevelop the SKD and KOP Stands
Money Talks. Memories or not, if you offer a good price above market value, people will move. That's the commercial reality.
I dontthink kd should be expanded as it makes MS the tallest and kop the smallest and it goes in a spiral down
5:30 surely if you were offered 50% over market value you would be more than happy to move?
If you grew up in your house with your parents, then had it passed down to you when they died and you went on to raise your own children in that house, would you really be happy to sell the location of all those memories to a multi billion dollar corporation for a bit of cash?
@@NathLloydDavies yeap!!
@@NathLloydDavies yes I would with the 50% over market value. Even better if they threw in a couple of season ticket 😀
@@NathLloydDavies They were all boarded up about 10 or 15 years ago.
Check out Mr Drone man 👨 he is so much better and beautiful 🤩.
Nah...Kevs better and hes a red.
What's so difficult about giving the owners of each property in that road a million pounds, get them to sign a non disclosure and going on from there?
I expect there'd be a few greedy c***s trying to take the piss.
A million pounds each? You think the club is swimming in billions left unused somewhere?!
That’s nonsense. The main stand cost £60m to build. If you had to buy 3 rows of houses with 10 houses on each row for a total of £30m you’d already be at half the cost of the new main stand. Never gonna happen
@@NathLloydDavies Trudat! But the main stand cost £110m though.
I think someone believing people should be moved out at a whim to be a tw@ but hey ho.
I get moved from me season ticket seat for champions league games. I sit in lower main stand. Considering the vast difference in facilities and comfort I can’t understand why the ticket prices are the same.
