Hey guys, Revisiting the P-38G-1 Lightning today! One of my favorites in Rank II USA, especially the way this thing looks, Fantastic! Hope you enjoy, and do make sure to Like, Comment, Share and Subscribe if you havnt yet. I would also ask you to join me on Locals and on Rumble. Links are in the description. Hope you have a great day! o7
It's one of Kelly Johnson's master Pieces! The Lightning and the Corsair are the most beautiful warbirds for me. Especially the early P-38 with the smaller radiators under the engines look great.
The Fowlers in combo with the hydralic-powered ailerons (intro-ed on the L model) make the P38 the most maneuverable twin of WW2. Even beating the light-weight Ki45 Toryu.
It’s high energy capability combined with interceptor spawn opens up many options when it comes to tactic and roles To name a few: bomber hunter, altitude suppressor, leasher and executioner in furballs, low interceptor (although the a36 is better suited for this role), to either disrupt enemy tactics or set your team straight.
I just unlocked a few weeks ago and I'm glad you voiced the reasons why I love this plane. Also, I had a toy model of this plane growing up and it was so satisfying to be able to fly it in this game!
I’ve just recently noticed the power of these bad boys. I ran several RBs yesterday with my Corsair and Bf 109 and man those p38s will destroy you so fast, they have great energy retention and can turn fight too. Beasts.
but if the enemy dives away from you… good for ur team, but harder to get kills in, well, except nowadays anybody tries to turn with you anyhow, so yeah, p-38s are fun
@@Siddich I just came back to the game since I played back in 2013 so it’s been a minute. But what I’ve noticed is very few people get altitude early on, especially turn fighters. They all just go diving in and it’s prime time for boom/zoomers like me. The only time I get nervous is seeing a yak or spitfire way up in the sky, then I know a serious dogfight is about to go down.
Nothing better looking than a ki43/ a6m zero. Something about manoeuvrable aircraft that tickles my fancy. I love the prospect of having to be perfect with my timing on evasive manoeuvres. Knowing that a single .50 calibre round can ruin my day makes my blood pump when I’m fighting in Oscar’s or zeros. I love the challenge of not getting hit, a perfect game.
That stall kill of Japanese Corsair... mate, it was just delicious 👍 Late P-38 are quite good as well.. L and K are monsters, if flown right.. even with surprisingly good roll rate. Btw, design itself has been created by Clarence Johnson, the real genius with more successful constructions like U2, SR-71, P-80, F-104... He died in 1990 ať age of 80, so you can easilly imagine his age, when inventing P-38. What a man.
Very nice vid. Glad you're showing the classic WW2 warbirds for newer players. I watch em and like em but words are hard. This was a fave aircraft when I was still playing. Got no reflexes or KI now but may go back cuz you remind me of how much fun it was. Hoping all is well with the family and RW. Thanks for posting.
This thing is a monster for a 2.7 plane, and sometimes when I transition to Rank 3 I still use it. Sniping bombers is its raison d'etre, though it can go toe to toe with enemy fighters. I played this thing and it was a beast.
Proud to say all of my P-38s have 3 to a whopping 6.6 K/D ratio in RB XD They're a joy to play (except the YP-38, 37mm took the fun away :( ) Fun fact, the 38J can actually outturn G-2, G-6, and G-10/14s, provided you have a slight energy advantage, but don't turn continuously. While the 38L's dive brakes work wonder and help get around that low dive limit lolol. But I personally love the 38J the most. Happy flying bois!
New sub, new to war thunder old on flying. Your videos have helped me climb this far in the usa tech tree in under a week. I also have a p39 and a p51😂
Honestly glad I grabbed the XP-38G-1 before it got replaced and never looked back. Out of curiosity, how is the YP-38 anyways? I’m sure the performance is the same, but how does the weapons onboard change things?
Massive downgrade. You’re trading 2 of the 50 cal for 30 cal, and one of the best 20mm guns for the 37mm, of which your ability to aim is irrelevant to the likelihood of hitting your target
Is there a way I can spectate my battles I just did ? I would love to see how my plane looks when I’m doing certain energy maneuvers. Especially because I’m in Xbox and I can’t really look behind my plane like that. It’s mostly intuitive when i make a turn in a energy fight
if i had friends playing war thunder, i would definitely tell them, where they can get all the information for planes from, but somehow most of my friends have stuff like social life and families and no time for video games 😏
The Ki-45 are slower but more manuverable. The guns are... let's say something special. I think the climbrate should be equal to the early Lightnings. I don't have the 96, so I can't compare it to the lightnings.
@@WarRaven38 I know this is an old comment, but the aviator has what is supposed to be the XF11. It was a real plane prototype that Hughes developed as a high speed photo recon plane. No relation to the p38 as far as I know, but both are twin boom aircraft. The plane did really crash and apparently almost killed Howard Hughes.

their fantastic indeed :)
Nothing beats the Lightning---my favorite prop, and probably the finest twin-engine fighter (of any nation) of WW2!
The P-38 used fowler flaps which when used at combat setting made it very competitive with the single engine fighters in turning maneuvers.
lovely indeed!

genius indeed, great man!
As the German teams declined in this BR, I can finally start enjoying this plane. Couple years back I got shredded in the lightnings.
Do we still have german teams? with all these mixed battles? ;)
The p38 was designed by a man called Kelly Johnson.
The XP-38 first flew on 27 January 1939 at the hands of Ben Kelsey.

Kelly Johnson designed the P-38. He also is responsible for the U-2, F-104, and SR-71.
That explains it then.
smart man!
I have to say it's nice to see a content creator post a video about something other than the f14 lol

Kelly Johnson is the name of the man who helped design the P38 if my research is correct.
i think so, saw others link this name as well.
I've been flying the P-38 J recently and have seen that the number of bombers have decreased significantly, it seems.
very possible, they've not had it easy for a while now.

Does the premium XP-38G have the same flight model or is it different from this version?
less powerfull engines if i remember correctly and different armament.
