When I return a weak serve, I move forward a bit inside the baseline. But I have a tendency to overhit and I frequently hit long creating an unforced error. My other option, which seems more successful, is to chip and charge. But l’d really like to return with a forehand or backhand with more certainty. Thoughts?
@@rishvanthgv4396 the reason I asked, is bc when a player tells me they hit long when inside the baseline, it’s almost always that they don’t have an air target. Targets are how high you’re aiming over the net. Usually people think of the court target but they don’t think of the air target. When behind the baseline aim higher over the net, when inside the baseline aim lower over the net and watch how much more consistent you become. Thanks!
Did not watch your video early enough. 🤠 Got crushed on 2 weak lobs that I hit to the the net person last last night! I do notice that recreational players dislike returning lobs. I see lots of "unforced errors" off of lobs, especially when they let it bounce. Also sometimes they think the lob is out , so they let it bounce and it just barely lands in and then they have a hit a very difficult shot back. Why do you think that is, Ryan? My hypothesis: Lots of players practice hitting hard shots back, perhaps using a ball machine.. .but they don't practice lobs enough? Do you use your Proton Ball Machine for lobs much? I don't maybe I should. What I do practice is hitting lobs back when the proton is giving me fast balls.. I feel I like I have a secret advantage practicing that.

@@davebeery_youtube do you purposely aim low over the net?
That's a problem with me as well!!!

Another benefit of the cross court lob return is that it also prevents the poach.
Yep. That’s the number one reason to lob cross court. Thanks!
