    So where are Labours new SEND plans and funding? The state system can’t support these children and hasn’t been meeting their needs for decades. This is why parents desperately do what they can to afford private school, home educate or attend virtual academies.

    When special educational needs schools were closed because the 'experts' and Liberal minded parents said all children should be in mainstream education the savings were not given to the mainstream schools to support SEND pupils. Unless behaviour or severe physical ability is the issue most children with SEND do not get help.

    • @ragdollkid1338
      @ragdollkid1338 2 месяца назад

      Exactly.' Inclusion' was just a cost cutting exercise like 'care in the community' was for mental health
      Sadly far too many parents think it's a good thing they child goes to mainstream until they experience the lack of care and attention kids get from many schools and by then the damage is done.

  • @DavidGetling

    There are some kids who genuinely need extra help, but I'm far from being the only one to think that terms like "special needs" and ADHD are used far too often to excuse appalling behaviour and bad parenting.

    • @ragdollkid1338
      @ragdollkid1338 2 месяца назад

      That is an ignorant point of view. 5% of the population are neurodivergent and the way schools have changed to larger and larger facilities is a totally hostile environment for these children
      State primary drove my son to being suicidal, secondary at least try to help but he likely has PTSD.
      There simply is no provision in my area for autistic children unless they have a severe learning disability too. Our choice is home education or try to work with school to make things less damaging.
      Surviving not thriving is our kids experience of school.

    The amount of public money being used for sen kids to be ferried to an from school in a taxi is absolutely insane, the majority have mild symptoms but somehow qualify for schoon run, most kids ive picked up have parents with cars, parents who dont work and have brand new mobility cars yet wont take there own kids to school, the amount of money my local council spends is pure insanity, one driver earns 1400 a week to take one kid to and from a school 50 miles away daily, on what planet is this acceptable, we wonder why councils are going bust

    • @ragdollkid1338
      @ragdollkid1338 2 месяца назад

      Do you imagine councils pay for taxis when the child is not legally entitled?
      Have you thought their symptoms appear mild because they are going to a supportive school or possibly are in freeze mode if they sense your hostility?
      Having a motibility car doesn't pay for petrol to drive kids to school and many SEN kids have a single parent who can't work so are living in poverty.
      They may also have siblings who need to go to school elsewhere or multiple kids in different schools.
      No parent wants their kid travelling 50 miles to school but there simply are too few places locally in some LAs and children with highly complex needs who need a very specific approach.
      To get into specialist provision you need to have very high needs. I have a child with multiple complex disabilities who needs constant supervision but couldn't even get put forward to be considered for specialist provision. No child with mild disability is getting a paid taxi to a far away school

      @taylormade2826 2 месяца назад

      @ragdollkid1338 I understand your position and I know the system is there for kids like yours and I don't disagree with that, no child senses any hostility from me I'm 33 and a father of 2 myself I constantly get told how the kids love being in my taxi, I see the amount of school run contracts available in my local area and I struggle to see where the money is coming from. I've covered maybe 10 different runs in the last 3 years so i know what im talking about im not exaggerating anything. Most kids are mild and live within walking distance of the schools. I picked one kid up who lived 0.4 miles from the school, his dad would drive past us every morning. I know there is certain community's in the uk with high inbreeding rates and school runs in them places are literally bankrupting the local councils

      @taylormade2826 to provide transport within 2 to 3 miles limit they need serious impairments. Some children may be deaf or have ADHD and are not safe in traffic. My son has ADHD and cannot be trusted to safely walk across a car park let alone nearly 3 miles crossing several busy roads. The only reason he doesn't have home to school transport is I haven't applied as I drive his brother to school at the same school. Once I get him a specialist placement he will have to go in a taxi as I can't go in opposite directions or sustain the expense of 30 miles in the car every day when I have already had to give up my job because of the high needs of my kids.

    • @taylormade2826
      @taylormade2826 2 месяца назад

      @ragdollkid1338 I'm not personally attacking anyone here the system is there for a reason and rightly so, I'm saying it's being well and truly abused and the burden should not be on the working, council tax paying families, I'm going to assume you get pip for your children and also a mobility car? Your not working so why shouldn't you be driving them to school? I though pip was to cover them costs

    • @MBReader410

      What a joke. The system is not fit for purpose, and not funded. LAs cannot cope and set the bar for statement at a level which denies many the support they need.

    • @ragdollkid1338
      @ragdollkid1338 Месяц назад

      @MBReader410 because their budgets were cut and everything LAs do is about the money.
      8 years ago I was told my son would had a statement for his reception year. I had a ton of medical evidence for complex disabilities/needs. DLA and a blue badge were easy to get but it took 6 years and a whole lot if advocates to get very basic support. We had to change schools to get meaningful support and finally at 11 he has got sufficient TA support in mainstream after a long battle and legal advice. Saved them a lot of money over the last 8 years

    Only the worst of petty hateful and spiteful governments would not want the best education possible for as many citizens as possible. It makes NO SENSE to limit the quality of education people receive.

    • @ragdollkid1338
      @ragdollkid1338 2 месяца назад

      They are not limiting it. This only affects those that have self funded places at private school. The majority of SEND kids are not that lucky so let's wait and see what Labour is going to do about our most vulnerable kids

  • @TigerMa75
    @TigerMa75 2 месяца назад +1

    The system for children with SEN needs a complete overhaul. Each parent is on their own trying to do their best for their child. Council’s seemingly have no money and so will only do the bare minimum so even with EHC plans(hard enough to get!)- school provisions do not meet them. If parents can afford private school specialised in SEN teaching- good on them. Shame we can’t have the best provisions in every primary and secondary school for children with SEN. Now that would be better.

  • @markhutton6055
