Let’s just stop comparing dedede to everyone. He’s a definite top tier, and jack of all trades, and an easy pick for beginners(*ahem* all of my friends)
@Tristen Matkowski Well if it's fiction, he doesn't necessarily need to be heavier than a woman in a power suit. Considering Ridley isn't that big in Smash, and is also quite thin and presumably light-boned like pterasaurs, I can believe him at least being the same weight as Samus. I'm not as sure about him being lighter though...
Ridley knows how to name his moves. This Space Pirate Dragon monster has class. Plasma Breath! Space Pirate Rush! Wing Blitz! Skewer! Plasma Scream! Hmm, his Final Smash actually has the most boring name...
@@nathanflinchum1153 I wouldn't mind it so much if they made his Up-B less terrible; why does the FLYING SPACE DRAGON have a hugely limited and exploitable Up-B? Why?
And charges it half way.. also not safe on Shield. Only good for 2 frames.. this is one of the worst guides I have ever seen.. coming from a Ridley main. You get more info from Kuroganehammer.com from the frame data.. please stop.
You don't need to hold B to do the jump throw for pirate rush. Just press B before the animation ends and before they get out. It's really fun to grab people of ledge and throw them under the stage.
I would like to mention the Ridley’s up B can spike your opponent off the stage if you use it from above. It’s rare, but if you’re above the edge while your opponent is also trying to get back, you can punish with an up B downward. This is a very rare thing, though, and it’s very risky.
@@UltimateTS64 I also am a ridley loyalist, to be completely honest until you master the moveset youre going to be mainly playing the patience game and counterapproaching, but if an opponent is being especially aggressive you can neutral air to get him off you and set yourself up for a combo with the right DI reads. Also F smash and down smash are godly at the ledge
It’s a pretty bad move. No super armour, tiny sweet spot, no knockback. This is prob the worst big move out of all the big moves like falcon punch, warlock punch, etc. it may do high damage but it doesn’t even combo into anything or end any combos
Ridley’s difficult in a different way than most characters. His play style is simple and easy to learn, but is also very susceptible to exploitation in terms of recovery and endlag. So, on the opposite side of the spectrum, he’s also easy to take care of.
Some extra Pro tips for ridley If your lucky enough to land a skewer, always follow up with down smash, unless you're confident they will roll away, then use side special instead. When recovering, use side special into upward up special when recovering low, don't aim your recovery foward unless you have no other option. Fireball really fucks with terrible recoveries use whenever possible, but to get the best distance, go to the edge of the stage, then short hop away to get the fireballs to hug the ledge perfectly. Down taunt to assert dominance
I would like to point out that you can do Ridley’s side B to get closer to the edge and then an up B for recovery, granted this is not always possible in certain situations, but it works. side B can also be used to counter some edge guarding techniques, the timing and spacing is difficult as all hell to get down but once you get it figured out it works in most situations.
Down B doesn't have any follow ups? Well they have 4 options Roll away from you-this can be covered by a side B always Get up attack- can be dodged and hit with a down smash always Roll towards you-can always be covered with a Down smash Or They can do nothing in which you can F smash or just give em another down smash I've been waiting for someone to make a video where they mention follow ups to ridleys down B and the mind games that ensue as soon as you hit with it but I guess this was not the video for it. Like if they're too close to the ledge they might try a get up attack but if you hit it center stage they might be trying to just get away using the roll away.
I love the flavor of Space Pirate Rush. SSBB showed Ridley slamming Samus into a wall and dragging her across it (and the Metroid games canonized it as a signature move of his), and after all these years when he's finally playable he has a "drag peoples faces across surface" ability. Perfection. Does seem a little odd flavor-wise to have a character who canonically has big-ass wings and spends so much time in the air to only have three jumps and an incredibly finicky UpB. I personally wouldn't mind a little more of his power pie shifted to mobility and recovery and a little less from some other category (Kill potential? Weight?), but that's nickpicking of a character who very mostly fits the fantasy of "Ridley" from a very casual player. I'm just happy the sadistic demon got into the Smash roster.
As a Ridley main this video needs to point this out: -single press B to spit one fireball to stall opponents running towards you and combo them. -up B and aiming it down can spike if correctly timing it when the opponent is recovering. Don’t hold down as you fly down or you won’t be able to grab the edge. Just tilt the stick down long enough for the input and then let go. -down A can stop some upward projectiles, such as Ness’ pk thunder and Peach’s turnips. In Ness’ case it comes in handy since his attack animation is long and you can cancel his thunder, fall quickly on top/next to him and combo him. -Use side b to punish rolls. Same with skewer. -With heavy characters, there’s a 50/50 chance that right after using down throw and using skewer, you’re gonna land the hit.
It should also be noted that his up smash’s hitbox starts towards the back, so if you wanna get the hit in faster, turn around first, then use it. Most people coming down don’t expect it to hit that quickly, and it’s pretty reliable.
Choctopus Notice how when talking about lightweights you have Ridley damaging Samus on screen which leads viewers to infer that Samus is a lightweight even if you never explicitly said so. Also you called Ridley a heavyweight which he isn't.

I don't know if this has already been discovered with ridley🤔 but I was messing around with ridley and found out that you can do down throw into up angled f-tilt at low percents, and it also sets up for a jab lock. So if you get grab with ridley at 0 to 10 percent you can get 50 percent.😎
It’s not bad necessarily, it’s just really awkward, and there are some cases where you can’t recover as Ridley. Then again, he has his side B for extra distance, and three jumps, so other than his weirdly angled up Bs, his recovery is pretty good
Yesterday I landed down b against my friend playing Ivysaur, he chose get up attack and it didn't even reach me so I got another free down b. I wonder what other characters can't reach Ridley with their get up attack out of skewer, cause against those guys if they choose that option then it's a lot of damage really quickly.
I mixup you can do with recovering, if your close enough to the stage and you do the Backwards slightly up up b, you can hit the wall of the stage and bounce upwards even further, you can space it to where it’ll snap to ledge but it’s pretty risky if it doesn’t, since your open to everything.
Side B can be cancelled any time by pressing B again, his down B can be turned into a 50/50 after hit by using his down smash to cover 3 options (roll towards you, neutral get up/delayed get up, and wake up attack) or use his side B if they roll away. Also, his up smash covers entire platforms on battlefield like stages
Down throw to down b does work at low percents, provided the opponent doesn't react in time. There is a small window where they can do an aerial, so be careful.
Side B can also be cancelled later on in its rush. Dont hold B, simply bress it or the jump button again when you want to fire the target away. Also, his up B when used on stage and to the side will go to the side and slightly UP ^^
So first spam roll to any side of the stage Charge up charge shot Shoot and if it misses roll to the other side Charge up charge shot Shoot and repeat for 7 minutes

Good vid but just so you know, you can press the jump button to immediately cancel the grab. I've got so many kills by doing the space pirate rush off stage (especially against foes who are edge-guarding at the very end of the stage).
