    J.D. Vance compared Sino-American diplomacy:
    We have built a foreign policy of hectoring and moralizing and lecturing countries that don't want anything to do with it. The Chinese have a foreign policy of building roads and bridges and feeding poor people.

    You need a lot more than what they did in response to sputnik. In the 1960s, the United States had the biggest industrial system in the world. The investments made in the late 1950s and early 1960s was to accelerate what was already there. They did not have to rebuild anything.
    The United States of the 1960s had the best educated labor force in the world. These skillful people took years to develop. The United States of the 1960s had the most innovative system in the world. Remember Bell Lab? Bell Lab practically invented the information age. The United States of the 1960s had very little debt. They could spend as much money as necessary to improve the human capital. At that time, many big companies provided a lot of technical training to their employees because they knew the employees would stay and that training would provide a return on investment.
    Many of these elements are gone. Today, schools are busy fight culture wars. Many school districts are "graduating" subpar students. Universities are outrageously expensive. Companies do not train people not only because they care first and foremost the quarterly profit, also because people move. Human capital is the most important factor and that takes time. It takes years to develop welders, machinists, electricians. Is there any politician interested in these long term, boring issues?
    What you need is a total orientation of the country. There is no true reform without a lot of wealthy and privileged people getting hurt, their wealth diminished. Can the United States summon the national will to do it?

    • @bryangoh3080
      @bryangoh3080 3 месяца назад

      At this point, their politicians are more likely to collapse the economy just to embarrass the political party in power.
      If there's one thing that Chinese history has shown, it's that the biggest threat to any political establishment is the OTHER political faction.
      The US can't have a national revival while half their media at any time is screaming that the president is literally the devil.

    The American mantra now to stay number one is the supposed ' superiority in innovation'. But there's no real argument why such an overwhelming majority of Chinese STEM engineers (compared to the numbers in the west) won't be at least as inventive as their western counterparts. After all major early inventions are Chinese and for a great part it's western suppression of the past centuries that kept a lot of countries, China included, from flourishing.

    China also supplies the best technology to these countries and eduction which in turn lifts them out of poverty. China also give coutries long term low interest rates for easy lone repayments. The US lost its superpower status in 1971 when President Nixon suspended the convertibility of the U.S. dollar to gold, effectively ending the Bretton Woods system. The US can no longer keep its commitment to exchange gold and the US dollar at a fixed rate of $35 per ounce. It was financially exhausted by spending on the Space program, the Great Society program, and the Vietnam War. A nation's power is based on its economic strength. The last time the US had a positive trade balance was in 1975, according to the U.S. Trade Balance report for 1970-2023.
    The US is now the world's largest debtor, reflected in its net international investment position (NIIP) of -$14.3 trillion. In comparison, China (including Hong Kong) is the world's largest creditor with a NIIP of $4.3 trillion. The last time the US had a positive NIIP was in 1988.
    The US incurs an additional debt of 10 billion dollars and a trade deficit of 3 billion dollars daily.
    David Goldman suggests borrowing more money to fund a moonshot program to solve its 35 trillion dollar debt problem.

      I'd argue that the US lost the FOUNDATION upon which its superpower status was built. The country coasted along as a superpower for decades past that time, and is in the process of discovering that it is no longer the superpower it once was. Most are still in denial, however.

The increase from 800B to 1.2T is because of the higher prices for the same amount of goods.

Therefore, that individual had to pay, often through loans. To be educated, in order to, do things that a country needs, in order to develop. If you want more engineers, scientists , doctors etc. Then train them and everybody else, free of charge. Your right wing, everything, must create profit for the shareholder, mentality.
