    Great video dude, there's not enough Ketsui commentaries on youtube and even fewer for Panzer. I'm definitely gonna be using some of these strategies, especially the unfocused shot stuff in stage 5. I know you said you were inconsistent with the game but it's incredible to see a 1-ALL finish with three extra lives, so well done!
    I've been seriously playing Ketsui on and off since October 2023 going for the Panzer 1-ALL. To be honest this game can be very, very frustrating; it feels so easy to die from random stuff you didn't see and dying feels like it's punished so hard. I got pretty disillusioned and some point and basically called it quits. Two months later after not touching the game, this video comes out, and motivates me to keep going. On my first run back, I made it all the way to Evaccaneer. I haven't been able to clear yet, but this video is making me realise that the route I'd devised maybe wasn't as good as I thought it was. Ketsui is the first shmup I've played where I think I need to really stop and think, "is this actually working?" Sometimes I worry that I've just been stubbornly grinding it expecting a miracle to happen, as if it's just a game of luck. I hope I can get the clear with these new ideas. Looking forward to whatever you do next 😊

      Super glad to hear that this video inspired you to pick up the game again! I remember feeling pretty frustrated when going for my first clear. There's just something about the patterns in Ketsui where I feel like it's harder to keep it all under control than in many other Cave titles. And then sometimes the luck pendulum swings the other way, like with this run... I don't usually clear with a lot of extra lives in stock, which is why I chose to do a commentary on this run despite it being a little old at this point.
      I find that taking breaks, even longer ones, can be really beneficial so as not to burn out and start to resent the game. So just take it run at a time. If you can get to the final boss, you will eventually be able to clear the game!

    Very glad to see another video from you!
    This is one of my favorite Cave games and really want to clear it. This video gives more confidence and want to challenge it again.
    I think why your commentary is so good is that you give us a great idea of what you were thinking at a tough section/pattern and how to handle it. Or just overall strategy and prioritizing enemies.
    It seems a but rare to see Shmup 1ccs with commentary over them, making your videos special. They are kinda relaxing to listen to for some reason.
    I hope you find time to show us more. Thanks!

    Glad to see another video from you, and on this amazing game to boot! I have actually been practicing this game quite a lot in the past month and feel very very close to getting my own 1cc with Tiger. I find replays of this game so fun to watch because everyone seems to have their own way of doing things, at least for survival clears. And as you say, the game just seems much more chaotic than most other shmups, so it's very fun to see where people are forced off-route and have to improvise.

    • @hazylevels

    Sweet Ketsui run. What makes this my favorite CAVE game is how much you can improvise in it. It feels crushing in Daioujou to take even one hit or break a chain, since it messes with all your hyper generation and especially if you were hoarding a higher level one. Dying doesn’t completely reset your chain in Ketsui so it still feels possible to get the score extends, and I find the boss patterns have a lot of identity, needing you to move in specific and weird ways (like hugging the blue line in stage 3 boss, or learning to redirect Evaccaneer firebombs) to greatly mitigate them instead of always relying on your reflex. Your damage being completely consistent the whole game (basically no Hyper check) also means you can clearly prioritise enemies that’ll give you trouble each wave. I still don’t like how both the games require you to basically no bomb for the true loops, feels not right to include something as cool as the bombs and being told not to use them. Thank the rereleases for giving you options to do those loops without the requirements.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the excellent write-up! I think I personally prefer the basic idea of chaining and hypers, but I agree that Daioujou is too punishing about them. I really appreciate how Ketsui keeps the challenge up while still allowing for mistakes. Except if you want to loop, obviously :) did you know that you can loop in DOJ by getting three bee perfect stages? I feel like that's pretty easy after a while, whereas I'm nowhere near Omote in Ket.

    Hi Hazy, it's great to hear from you again! I was wondering just a few days ago if you were still playing shmups. I hope things get better for you soon. This was an amazing run, insane stages 4 and 5 on low resources, very impressive and entertaining to watch!

    Amazing run! This game is so difficult, that I'm terrified to go all in on it, get stuck for months, and become crazy haha.
    Your commentary is great as always. I will rewatch it once I learn more about the game! The quote of Clover Tac is very true 😁

      Hi Vinu, thanks so much for the kind words! Doing a little better now and up for some shmupping :) Ketsui is no joke, but I'm confident you could do it. It's all about practicing those tough parts, especially stage 5. And taking breaks so as not to feel overwhelmed!
      Btw I was just watching your Progear video the other day in hope of tips, because something about that game just melts my brain and I can't dodge anything 😅 I guess different styles of game bring out the challenge for different players.

    Terribly sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time! I sincerely hope there are better times ahead. :) Recently I just got my first 1CC DDP run (so fun) so i decided to move onto Ketsui and was super stoked to watch your video! You do great commentaries. And yeah when I do some clutch dodging when practicing I usually want to reset cause I feel like something went terribly wrong hah. But to my eye this run was kinda amazing. I just started playing this game and man it is nasty! You clearly are extremely skilled. Super cool. :) Quick question though, when youre using focus shot, you dont do more damage to enemies the closer you are do you? At first I felt like I was, but now I dont think so.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words! Ketsui is tough indeed and takes time to learn. I don't want to underplay the effort I've put into the game, but no missing no bombing most of stage 5 is not something that I usually do :) so the stars aligned for this run. But I'll take it. Luck, both good and bad, is just part of the shmup experience.
      I don't think there's point blank damage here like in DDP, but you lock on to enemies faster close up + your focus laser doesn't quite cover the whole height of the screen. So you don't necessarily want to spend a lot of time at the very bottom.

    • @TheHiddenFortress81

      @@hazylevels Yeah during your run it looked to me like you were in complete control the whole time for the most part. Me im still learning like all the routing so a lot of the time even if i make it through a section im like “that was luck, do it again.” I cant decide if Ketsui is my favorite or DOJ, or DDP so far. I cant believe it took me this long to really start to get into the CAVE STGs. Seriously though, you, Mark MSX, and Shmup Junkie are my favorite channels for the shooters. Please keep it up. Your tips are helpful and I just appreciate it.

    Ketsui has been pissing me off for some reason! I'm playing it and I'm getting good, stringing together my stage knowledge. But then I just give up and don't bother with the 1CC. Maybe part of it is it feels like everyone plays the run pretty much the exact same way. Every run I do seems the same and when I look at other runs it feels about the same. And I find the ship that everyone uses kind of slow and clunky but can't seem to get anywhere with the other ship (which may be why nobody seems to use it). I also don't even think about the scoring and don't see much of a reason to. I like it but it's not up there with my favorites. Once I decide to 1CC it I probably won't play it much afterwards.
    Don't do be pressured to do the youtuber thing where you feel like you have to put out content just for the sake of it. This is the shmup community. Not exactly being bombarded with content over here so as long as you stick around and comment with sincere interest people will remember you and keep watching.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  5 месяцев назад +1

      Interesting! I obviously enjoy the game and find that there's a little more variation between runs than in some other titles. But no need to force it if you're just not feeling it. What shmups do you prefer, if you don't mind sharing?
      Thanks for the encouragement regarding the channel btw. Luckily I'm just doing this as a fun hobby and that takes care of most of the pressure. But I'm trying to be conscious of not posting just for the sake of posting, because it can get addicting.

    • @sibbyeskie
      @sibbyeskie 5 месяцев назад

      @@hazylevels I guess my favorites tend to be the ones that have an interesting scoring technique, and by mastering it makes your runs more unique and almost teaches you how to play the game optimally. Guwange is a good example because mastering the bullet cancels and finding your own route feels very personal and builds confidence as you aim to get better. Deathsmiles is also very much like that and so are the Espgaluda's. It doesn't hurt also that the avatars in those are humanoid and I tend to prefer that too just from an aesthetic standpoint. DDP, DOJ and Ketsui to me tend to be the ones I don't play seriously and more "for fun" where I'm not thinking much, which is probably opposite of a lot of players. I dunno.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  5 месяцев назад +1

      @sibbyeskie makes sense! Something like Galuda has a pretty different feel to it compared to Ketsui, and I can see how someone could prefer one over the other. I enjoy both styles, but I guess I'm more content with just figuring out a challenging route (with some light scoring).
