Clearly the UNIT can be seen, and the part that is vacuum sealed is the working parts. And they will obviously know what the unit is. Awesome if rocking bothers you. I like a little rocking to sleep better because my bones ache (sleeping beam to beam when rocking hard vs bow to stern when rocking gently :-) This is great for any powerboat as they seem to rock very hard, pounding a lot. The large keel on a sailboat softens the rock a lot.

    What if you designed the floorboard itself to utilize the gyroscopic effect. Everytime the boat rocks the entire floor pivots to counteract the rocking making everything level. Or you could use it on a micro level and design tables, counters etc to balance out.

    • @joeKisonue

    • @joeKisonue
      @joeKisonue 2 года назад

      Maybe, but you have 3 axis to work around and this only takes care of 1. What are we talking about? Like a little house boat on a lake? Your gonna need the vessel to keep pointing in one direction as the first issue. But how about just modification to a large camera stabilization gimble. I think that's a better, more efficient direction to go if you are trying to keep a small dish pointing somewhere on a big heave boat.

      People who need this, don't fish seriously. The noise created idling an engine and the frequency's created by high RPM gyro are totally different. Trolling probably wouldn't make much difference, but drifting you wouldn't catch anything! Who idles while drifting anyway?

      I use a sailboat to fish and even a sailing kit with an electric motor on my dinghy. low to zero noise and the heavy keel keeps rocking down. I can always put out a sea anchor on the boom swung out over the beam but I like rocking. I sleep better rocking (and sleeping beam to beam vs bow to stern). Little to no rocking on a sailboat when sailing vs a powerboat.

    I'm assuming this gyro only helps with side to side rocking not front to back. And one more thing, it's not waves that make a boat rock as much as the wind itself hitting the boat sometimes. Noticed this on cruise ships. The taller the boat, the more wind will rock it.

    I don't claim to be an expert on gyroscopic stabilizers but don't you need to exert some kind of force on the water to prevent your boat from rolling? Stabilizing fins? How would it work if you're not moving? Boats become less effected by the waves at higher speeds without a Gyro

    • @VanillaSnake21
      @VanillaSnake21 6 лет назад +2

      There is a really heavy wheel spinning inside. The wheel is mounted inside of a sphere as you saw. The sensors detect which way the boat is tilting and the sphere is rotated in the opposite direction of the roll. Since the gyroscope always tries to keep the same plane which is perpendicular to the direction of rotation, by adjusting the inclination of the sphere holding it, it actually exerts forces in the direction opposite of the roll to cancel it out. It's a bit similar to electronic camera gimbals except those don't use gyros.

    • @RobertSzasz
      @RobertSzasz 6 лет назад

      The gyro allows the big hydraulic cylinders to create torque that stabilizes the boat.(with a rotating mass, you generate a torque 90° to the applied torque, so by mounting the gyro rigidly on the port-starboard axis, spinning it in the horizontal plane {so there is no reaction to turning the boat}, and then tilting it forwards and back, you can create a left to right torque)
      Fins are more efficient when moving, but require water flowing over them to work,

      Just came from their demo at the Annapolis boat show. I was informed that they will be releasing a version smaller than the 3dc above sometime in 2018. Judging by their other models, I'm >guessing< it should be about $15k and good for 20-30 foot boats.
      In all honesty, you could fit the 3dc on a 20 foot boat as long as you had the space to fit it and the juice to run it. Your boat would be rock solid.
      EDIT 20FEB2018:
      Seakeeper 2 just released. I was a bit off on my assumptions (its bigger IRL than I thought) but still pretty close.
      27-32' boats
      device is 400-ish lbs
      about 2' per side
      $22k plus install
      If they ever view a "Seakeeper 1" as viable, it'll probably be closer to my original guess.

    You pronounce all words with the letter O as a U sound as in Goo. So, phone becomes Fune, rhymes with tune. Tele-fune..

    Ok, it's weighted...and their website is RATHER difficult to navigate (without turning on 'flash', which I am NOT going to do)...so no PDF, no real information, no pricing...just glitzy ads. If i have to ASK how much it is, then clearly they are ashamed to just tell me straight-up (glad that Ford and Dodge don't do that, would make buying a car DIFFICULT). Now, if you have a 50-ft STEEL hull with 20-ft beam, talk me through how a gyro for a FIBERGLASS cruiser is going to work on my 1200-hp Cat12 with running depth of almost 10-ft, and compare to the cruiser's expected performance?
    One size does NOT fit all, and they are offering NO DETAILS on 'what the determining factors are' on sizing. I don't want to make a 'private call' (aka HARD SELL), I want to see the data so I can make AN INFORMED decision (without resorting to comment-sections on yachting sights that have NO BEARING on my vessel's design!)

    I'd like to see that in a racing boat. It would probably need a much faster reaction time though.

      Like racing power boat? They are by design very low draft and low center of gravity, but it would improve some aspects. However you are adding 300-500lb extra weight in a "racing " boat where light is better. So diminishing returns is how that's referred to I believe.

      Maybe a deep V monohull but not tunnel or multi hulled boats power boats. It does nothing for trim or preventing a blow over from happening as the moment forces are larger. You never hear of these gyros installed on a catamaran style yacht.

      For you I guess. A good percentage of boat owners don't concern themselves with cost . The people I'm referring to have watches that cost more.
