Love how at least 60% of overcomplicated Star Wars Legends Lore comes from encyclopedia book writers just going off on tangents that have nothing to do with the real stories. We've got sentient insectoids and arachnids, bipedal humanoids, quadro or even hexapedal humanoids. We have avians and all other manner of living beings. These all fall under traditionally viewed "lifeforms". And then if we move to some more unorthodox ones we have the more common sentient trees or plants. And we have less common "living rocks". Lastly we have a few instances of sentient planets. And we find these across many fictional works. And the reasoning for many of these are varied.
So having a robotic body with a, somewhat limited or restricted, AI living in symbiosis with a living force sensitive crystal? I mean sure. One could even argue it is the midi-chlorians just bunching up and residing in these crystals for all I care. Would still be a better narrative than episode 8 and 9...

I’ve always been fascinated by the Oraxian Shards, and really, I don’t think they’re all that unusual. We’ve seen living alien species piloting droid bodies before, and we’ve seen living alien species look like they’re made of rocks. This is just a melding of both of those ideas; a crystalline alien species that pilots droid bodies. Some are Force-sensitive, so when they use the Force while in a droid body, they appear to be a Force-using droid, but they’re really not.
There’s more lore to them too. They’re born in clusters and communicate with each other via electromagnetic pulses. Republic explorers on Orax discovered these pulses and investigated, revealing the Shard species to them. The Republic then made translator boxes a Shard could be placed into, translating their pulses into audible Basic, and vice-versa. Then, they went further, and developed a method for retrofitting droid bodies to install one of these boxes instead of a memory core, allowing the Shard to control the droid body instead of a computer. Their ability to receive electromagnetic pulses as information makes them naturally responsive to droid sensors giving them physical feedback as well.
For those Shards who were granted droid bodies to walk around in, a whole new universe was opened up for them to explore, and several were overcome with wanderlust to experience it. Orax became a part of the Republic, and the Shards would typically deal in droid parts to make bodies for themselves. Force-sensitive Shards were already more curious about the world outside their family clusters than most, so they would take to droid bodies even more readily.
It should be noted that Aqinos, mentioned in the video, had already been kicked out of the Jedi order for his philosophies on droids and the Force *before* he ever met any Force-sensitive Oraxian Shards. He discovered them later, in his exile, on Orax, and took 13 of them (a mother and her children) on as apprentices, eventually becoming the first Iron Knights, after they all moved to Dweem.
What’s funny about their surviving Order 66 on account of people not looking for “Jedi droids” is Palpatine himself was aware of them, making them High Marshals in the Clone Wars even when the Jedi did not recognize them as Jedi.
One fun story is that the super-non-canon story of Skippy the Jedi Droid was at one point going to be made canon in the EU by retconning that he was actually an Iron Knight in hiding. This was deemed “too weird” by the author who would have done this, so she didn’t. A droid secretly being a Jedi crystal-alien hiding in a droid? Makes sense. The red droid in ANH blowing up because the one piloting it saw a vision that the galaxy would be doomed if Luke became friends with him instead of Artoo? Too weird. 😅
I’ve never heard of Shards using other Shards as lightsaber crystals. Considering Aqinos was kicked out by the Jedi before meeting any Shards, it makes me doubt that that was the reason he was kicked out either. Shards are also typically too big for lightsabers. Justin has likely done more research on the subject than I have, but that part seems especially dubious. However, Shards in the Iron Knights did typically name themselves after lightsaber crystals still, like Ilum and Luxum, so maybe a source got that confused and literally interpreted it as meaning some Shards were lightsaber crystals? I’m not sure, but I’m curious where that factoid comes from.

    • @wilhufftarkin8543
      @wilhufftarkin8543 Год назад +1

Did you know that Aqinos is a reference to Thomas Aquinas, who was one of the most famous medieval philosophers? At first, Aquinas was considered a borderline heretic for trying to include the then newly rediscovered teachings from Aristotle into Catholic theology, but eventually his ideas were accepted by his contemporaries and later he was deemed one of the greatest philosophers of the Church.
Btw, this version of Skippy would actually be kinda cool.

My Star Wars D&D character that I want to play is basically a SBD Iron Knight powered by a Kyber Crystal, but as the Padawan and Crystal were bonding, Order 66 happens and the Padawan was killed. This sent his soul into the crystal, where he wakes up some years later.

I actually wish they could have appeared in the clone wars. It would have made for a good episode about diversity and stuff like that. I remember mace windu doesn't really like these guys Plus it could have piggy backed off of that Nintendo wii game Star Wars Light saber duels the last level in the game anakin has to fight a bunch of enhanced droids that could match a jedi and a sith Their power comes from the kyber crystals as well as these iron knight shards jedi fused together and corrupted plus this little shortcut Gives them the ability to use the force

Well, regular Kyber crystals too are usually considered to be almost sentient and without a dubt have strong connection to the force (despite having no midichlorian).
I don't think it'd be that crazy if another type of force connected crystal existed that it was even more "intelligent" than kyber 😄

In Darth Plagueis' notes he mentioned that midichlorians can exist on rock-based lifeforms. Instead of being part of their cells, they form lattice-like structures on the stone. This can both explain how the Shards and Spook Crystals were able to use the Force and Force-related abilities. (the notes also mention the link between midichlorians and conciousness and imo explains how some droids and space stations *cough cough* Starforge *cough* could've become sentient when exposed to certain extremities of Dark Side influence and power)

the Thing with fictional Concepts like Space Magic and Midichlorians show: It's not always better to demystify your Mysteries and i hope the writers just ignore certain things rather then explain why Non-Carbon life forms can interact with the Force. Besides that Silicon Based are already quite a stable in SciFi for "living Stones".
Besides good intentions and that we Humans want to understand our enviroment, when it comes to fictional Stuff, less is really more, like Tom Bombadil, a Figure and Story does nothing to advance the Plot or got explained really in any way, but Fans are still mad that he wasn't in the Movie and Tolkien himself said that Tom is one of the mysteries of the World of Arda.
Yes, he helps the Hobbits at the burrows, but they come out the same way as they entered, Tolkien invented the side-quest

Just a theory on my part, the life/ intelligence of the Iron knight wasn't so mycelium the crystal inside the knight but maybe the energy field within the crystal, it could costume energy, excrete waste energy and maybe even reproduce via splitting off another energy field.
As for unusual Jedi species, I had one that was a Noghri jedi. Obviously this would have had to had taken place after the Heir to the Empire trilogy. Bushai would have been one to think (or meditate) before acting whenever possible.

They're not rocks or trees, but the first Jedi Knight game from LucasArts had the dark Jedi Pic and Borc. Pic was tiny and jumped around with a mini lightsaber years before Yoda did, while Borc was a barely mobile hulk with a lightsaber blade like a telephone pole. It made for unconventional combat.
