  • NAB is just around the corner, and I, giant dork that I am, am pretty stoked. This looks to be a year full of innovation and these are just a few of the things I'm hoping to see released, whether it's this weekend, or years from now.

    Everybody should stick with braw on BM cameras.

      I exclusively use braw but the lack of prores is keeping some production companies from getting fully on board with their newer cameras. It'd be a good business decision.

    Timing is everything. Hello DJI. Surprisingly endearing video making surprisingly well informed wish list. 2x anamorphic absolutely but pointless without open gate. Noted. Likewise eva2 rather than s1h ideally. Super appreciated and beautifully put together piece. Thx

      Epic to see the new DJI Lidar system! Lumix and BMCC both have affordable open-gate cameras (yes its 3:2 but still 🤷🏼‍♂). Mind you everyone except the actual film industry are making big deals about having to crop out pixels from footage when shooting on 16:9 sensors. I have a Sony FX camera so I understand the struggle. The Creator used 2x anamorphic and all I've heard is raving reviews about its cinematography. They cropped loads off the sides to fit the 2.76:1 aspect ratio. My point is not to say that its not ideal to crop or say that professionals don't try to avoid this, but that its not as bad as we think and there are examples of people doing this and audiences not having a single problem with it when you make the call based on story and not tech specs and pixels. Some youtubers keep saying you cant do it, but Greig and Oren do it and nobody bats an eye. 🤣🤣

    • @EricShaquille
      @EricShaquille  3 месяца назад

      You're 100% right! When cropping people hate to give up resolution but when doing on a 6k camera you're still getting over 4k and on a 4k camera you're going to end up around 2.5k which is still pretty close to the amount pixels than you would get with an Alexa Mini Filmed in open gate 4:3 which maxes out at a native 2.8k.
      That being said, the freedom of being able to reframe and max out resolution by using the entirety of the sensor means a lot to me on my more fast paced, uncontrolled productions. Not a deal breaker at all, but that piece of mind is worth a lot.

    talked to a sony employe in last november: the Burano has its size because they couldn't fit an IBIS and VND into a smaller body. they physically needed the body to be this size to make it work.
    Idk if they can figure it out, but I don't think we will see something like this in a smaller body at NAB this year.

    • @EricShaquille
      @EricShaquille  3 месяца назад

      Well I trust the Sony rep more than my own speculation but from just looking at the camera, I assumed most of the tech required was front loaded into the sensor planform. Thanks for the heads up!

      I'm honestly expecting this camera to be close to, if not more than $5kusd. All of their "professional" Ursa cameras release at around $6k so this one might be out of our price range for a while.

    • @CreepyCoolPictures
      @CreepyCoolPictures 3 месяца назад +1

      @@EricShaquille I dunno, their business seems to be doing fine. Most cameras in general don’t shoot ProRes, and have to use external recorders to do it. Especially Sony, yet a lot of production companies use their cameras. Still, disagree. Feels like a non issue.

    • @PaulRadaker
      @PaulRadaker 3 месяца назад

      Not all video editing software can handle BRAW. Final Cut Pro doesn't support it and probably never will, so you'd always need to transcode the video in Resolve first before editing in Final Cut Pro. Encoding in ProRes on the camera skips that extra step for any FCP users.

    • @CreepyCoolPictures
      @CreepyCoolPictures 3 месяца назад

      @@PaulRadaker that’s understandable, especially since Resolve will prob never support ProRes Raw. I don’t understand why someone who buys a BlackMagic camera wouldn’t use the free copy of Resolve Studio for editing, especially for the superior color tools. Either way, you’re still able to round trip the BRAW intro ProRes, edit in FCP, and send the edit back for final grade and export with incredible ease. There’s nothing stopping you from using other editing apps. Or, like with most cameras, record to ProRes on an external monitor.
      If this is how they keep their cost down and quality high for processors and licensing, it’s odd to demand something else that isn’t easily a workaround. 🤷‍♂️

    • @EricShaquille
      @EricShaquille  3 месяца назад +1

      I've been considering the FX3 vs S5iiX. But with that new DJI lidar system making autofocus universal, I'm not so worried about autofocus for my A cam anymore. I'm hoping Blackmagic can shake up the industry again tomorrow!

    • @ozzythemighty2767
      @ozzythemighty2767 3 месяца назад

      @@EricShaquille You got to weigh in why choose either one. Fx3 would cover a big range of my needs in quick scenarios. And purchasing the Red+Lidar full kit would be fantastic but at a steeper price. I would need loads of clients to cover it. Something to think about in the short term. Why i'm waiting NAB over so i can weigh everything.

    • @EricShaquille
      @EricShaquille  3 месяца назад +1

      Sony not putting open gate into the Burano was puzzling to me. Between the growth of affordable anamorphic lenses and the need for reframing vertical content, Sony really needs to get on this soon or they'll be flirting with losing customers.

    why does everyone want a box camera so badly as if the box format does anything ? I would like a new black magic camera but wouldnt care about the box format.

    • @EricShaquille
      @EricShaquille  3 месяца назад +2

      A box would making balancing on a gimbal significantly easier than it's current shoe-esque shape, and it also allows for use of a vmount natively, effectively solving the awful battery life issue. I just want something small-ish(smaller than an ursa), with good battery life, and allow for touchscreen navigation of the menu system.

      Because it just makes more sense ergonomically, would be easier to rig, balance and even cool. The ursa and bmcc form factor and build quality are just not the best out there by a mile. We, as users and buyers are just asking for what we deserve.
