    Thanks Tim - I was about to call my dealer for home service on my 2009 LE927 model , the manual instructions were gibberish . The OEM disc is only $26.40 here , you will save me at least $100 in labor and fees. Thanks again for a good video.

    I just used the video to change my friction disk on a 2011 Ariens snowblower and it was perfect. First time ever worked on a snowblower. Thanks.

    Hi Tim, great video! Looking to take the tires off my 3 year old Ariens for the first time but have been intimidated because I'm not so mechanically inclined and the manual that comes with the machine doesn't address it. Hard to find something online or on youtube that shows and explains this "simple" task, so I appreciate it greatly!! Want to clean/lubricate the axles for the first time.

    Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to make this video. I have been shopping for a snowblower and have been wary of the friction disc drive until seeing your video. Machines with the friction disc drive are a good bit less $$ than those with hydrostatic drive. I can't help but wonder if the assembly and procedure is the same with the newer track drive smart turn Ariens units? Ariens or Honda? Hydro or friction disc? I like the the 420 cc engine that Ariens has on its larger machines.

    Thanks for this video, I’m going to attempt this, I was hoping you’d have to remove the axle also since on my machine the bushing is worn out around the shaft and makes the machine sit with a lean to one side but I’m sure I’ll figure it out

    You can grease those sealed bearing, there are videos on here to show you how, take the worry out of what is going to go next.

    Hi Tim, In your video I can see that little nipple that is just above the gear shaft you pulled out. That nipple part is on the outside of the Ariens body, and goes to a very small gear ( I think it's called a pinion gear ) that is part of the larger gear that has a chain on it. I'm sure my bearing is broken as I shake that gear and it wobbles, and won't even engage the other large gear, so the wheels don't turn.
    Just wondering on your Ariens, can you see the bushing coming out of side of the body where that nipple is attached ?
    If you have time to look I'd really appreciate that.
    Thank you in advance !

      Hi BakeLikeAPro - I'm not sure I know exactly what your referring to. If you watch my video from the 4:20-5:20 minute mark you can see a pretty good close up of the right side of the machine. Hopefully you can tell from that shot if you can see the bushings you are talking about. Hope that helps! Tim

    Hey Tim I have an Ariens also and my wheels are locked it’s the strangest thing when I opened it up I turn the drive shaft and then I tried turning the Hecks shaft and the head chef has play up to like half a turn I don’t know what’s locking it up

    I have the exact same model and this video will help me greatly but I wonder if it is necessary to remove the right wheel?

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  9 лет назад +1

      Hi Norm- no, you can do it without removing the right wheel. It only takes a minute though, and it makes it easier to take off the transmission cover bolts on the side. It also allows you to put a thin coat of grease or oil on the axle before replacing the tire...sometimes they get rusted on, and can be hard to remove if you get a flat and have to take it off. Hope that helps!

    Did you really feel it necessary to cut the video that showed the hex shaft being removed? It was a fairly important part.

    Thanks Tim. I have a compact 22 LE (920013) that's about 5 years old. I followed your very clear instructions but when I took the left and right flanges off, I couldn't slide the hex shaft out because there were heads on the ends of the shaft, outside of the body of the machine that didn't seem made to come off and I was afraid to damage them with more force.Any suggestions?

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  9 лет назад

      Steven- I am not familiar with a hex shaft that has a "head" on the end. Is there any type of screw or hex nut in the end of the head holding it to the shaft? Or, is the "head" perhaps threaded onto the end of the hex shaft? Maybe someone else will see this post and respond. You may also be able to find a blow up of the parts list for your exact model and maybe it will show if that head on the end of the shaft comes off somehow.

    Hey thanks for the video exactly what I needed. Very informative. Maybe you can help the spring on the arm that sits against the augers pulley popped off where does that fit? Does that just attach to the side of the housing in the little slit. ? Any help would be great.

      Adam Walsh I’m sorry I can’t help without opening up my machine.
      I always take close up photos and videos before disassembly to avoid such an issue. Sorrrry. :-(

      The spring connects to the slot on the right side. U are correct.

    Thanks for the video. How did you get the wheels to slide back over those rectangular steel "pins"? I don't have clearance when doing it by hand. Obviously, I'm putting them back in the axle grooves first.

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Brendan- Make sure you just put the pin (the "Key") only onto the axle far enough so that it is flush with the outer edge of the axle. You might have to hold it in place while you begin to slide the wheel back on. If you slide the key too far toward the machine, the groove that the key sits in angles up, and will prevent the wheel from going on all the way. If that doesn't work, you could try to put the wheel on the axle first and then slide the key into the groove, but that often times is even harder to make it fit. Good luck! Tim

      Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try a vice grip to hold the key in place later this week.

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  7 лет назад

      The key shouldn't fit tight. I'm wondering if it got deformed a little or something. You could pick up another key or else try filing or grinding it down slightly to make it fit.
      Good luck!

    Strange for that drive linkage to break like that. There's not a lot of force on it unless something is jammed.

    Like the video but my bearings were frozen on (I grease my machine every season , its only five years old but bearing won't come apart !??) Any ideas ?

      Jerry - I'm sorry to say that I don't have any experience dealing with bearings that are frozen on. If you're able to get it figured out, please reply here with how you were able to fix it.

    7:56 the word you were looking for was "spline"
    Nice video, would it have been less dis-assembly if you had shifted the hex shaft over to the right (instead of over to the left as you did) ? and then slip the friction wheel out along the housing on the left side of the snowblower??

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  8 лет назад

      +Patrick Wagz...maybe!
      I'd have to go back in and look at what all is involve on the right side. I can't remember if there is a gear, chain etc. that would have to be reinstalled if the bearing and retaining plate were removed from the right side so the hex shaft could be pulled to the right, rather than to the left.
      IF there isn't a lot to re-assembling the right side, it would probably be easier to see what you were doing when reinstalling the shift assembly back onto the hex shaft if you were to pull the shaft to the right, rather than to the left. Next time I have to pull the bottom cover for any reason I'll take a look at it. Thanks for the idea and feedback.

      Tim Brennan Yea, don't go to any trouble. I wasn't sure if it would've been any easier, or not. I have the Ariens 1336 Pro that will need a new friction wheel in the next year or 2...

      i'm on my 3rd Friction disc on my 2015 model, they wear out extremely fast.You are correct, i Left wheels on, removed Both outside Hex shaft Bearings, both cotter pins, the 3 bolts holding the Friction wheel, slide shaft to the Left and push small chain sprocket Backwards out of the way, then slide shaft out thru the Right side Bearing hole a couple inches, now Friction plate will fall off Left side of shaft, install New one, Reassemble, takes about 15 min, start to Finish, No need to Remove shaft assemble.
