my partner saw me looking at this or the rp4 and knew i was leaning towards this because i LOOOOVE my PSVita. Needless to say, she is amazing, and so is this device. It's the portable PS2 kid me always wanted but it does soo soo much more. Not doing Switch emulation because it's drain on the battery doesn't seem worth it to me, but PS2, Dreamcast, and Gamecube are so great.
Been nostalgically dreaming of some retro gaming as of late. Really enjoying your videos, thank you for the honest break-downs of these devices. It's a surprisingly complicated world to get into for a noobie like myself.
Hey man. Thanks for that. And yes it can be a minefield at first. I always say, what games are you wanting to play. And work from there. That being said, I started wanted to play Famicom games and ended up with 3DS and PSP and my favourites, which need a more powerful device.
The price put me off too at first... but then I realized if I just jump straight to the top, I will stop buying other devices in search of that "perfect" device... for awhile at least. Now I just have the Odin 2 Mini Pro and my little Miyoo a30, and I couldn't be happier. All my bases are covered. Plus with Winlator making huge gains week after week, it's kind of starting to edge its way into Steamdeck territory. Before anyone gets all worked up, no, it is not a Steamdeck replacement. It's just cool that such a tiny little device can run a surprisingly large list of PC games too. I mean, Jedi Fallen Order. On a device that fits in my pocket... amazing. What a time to be alive.
At first the stock woes and the price led me to the Razer Edge, which was down to $250. The Edge was fine at best, I didn't like how loose the tablet was in the controller, and there were some PS2 games that I couldn't run in NetherSX2. On top of that, it was just so much wider as a whole for not any real benefit. Those reasons and the fact that I fell back in love with my Vita this summer led me to order the Odin 2 Mini and return the Edge. I opted for the base model as I'm not planning on using Winlator on the device (I had an ASUS ROG Ally and sold it), and I am truly in love with it. Battery standby is excellent. If not for Vita emulation still leaving quite a bit to be desired, I'd have retired the Vita in favor of the Odin 2 Mini, but alas I use them both in synergy. Is it pricier for the Android handheld market? Yes. Are you getting as potent a chipset that's currently available in perhaps the smallest body it's been put in? Also yes. The Odin 2 Mini harkens back to the days of compact flagships being as powerful as their bigger siblings and offering the same experience in a smaller package should you choose to. Once these are available on Amazon like the larger Odin 2, I can see this taking a good chunk of sales from the larger Odin 2 and even the Retroid Pocket 4 because you do get more for the premium price if that's what you're more concerned with.
Think you nailed it as to what the draw is for this device at the end. It's unique and special. I was all in on the RP4P as the device to get as it's the best price for performance device on the market. But then I got my hands on the Odin 2 Mini and have just been blown away. The buttons, screen, overall feel of it is just so premium. It really feels like I'm holding a first-party console. The price is steep, but I think for those that have extra money to burn, they'll find it well worth it once it's in their hands.
Glad you’re enjoying it. For me, the Odin 2 (and mini if you want the portability) are worth it over the RP4+ as it allows us to just play and not worry about speed hacks, PAL versions, etc. As you say, there’s enough power today and wait for the emulators to catch up. Great to the point video. Oh, and you can ditch Yabasanshiro on this and use the amazing Saturn Beetle core (RA) as the Odin 2/mini is fully compatible and has enough power.
it’s just the form factor that makes it so appealing. if retroid made the next rp in the shape of a vita, it would sell game busters. it’s super not worth its price, but oh well🤷🏻
@ΗΗΗΗΗΗ0000 It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might, especially compared to the MM+ and its gnarly PWM whine. The good news is that the Odin 2 Mini fan doesn't need to be on for most of what it can do, and its speakers are more than capable of covering the sound, and besides, the noise really isn't all that bad!
Haha oh dear. Was it a bit harsh for her? I've been stubbornly hanging onto my whole knife schtick but if Mrs Breeze dislikes it I will find a new autofocus tool.
Personally I'm selling my RP4 Pro and Flip to grab this guy. The ergonomics on those two left me wanting something a bit better, and frankly the power of this leaves it open for the potential of 7th gen and Winlator emulation in a few years. I basically want the Pocketable Android version of the Steam Deck lol, something good, versatile, comfortable and future proof.

@@adinwalls It's nice to have this power in such a small format. Vignetting or blooming are no issue for me, but the screen can be really bright, especially in the evening.
You already convinced me to buy the RG Cube and now this?!? As someone with a powerful gaming laptop and RSI I am tempted by the idea of a lightweight PC streaming handheld.
