@@rorylumley4727 I see, but at least they could've acknowledged the fact that Hulk was a part of the team at some point of time, similar to how they did for Thor.
One interesting thing about this series is that the tie-in comics actually gave a kind of neat explanation for the goofy-looking exoskeletons; in a fight before the first episode of the series, most of the team was beaten so badly by Ultron that Hank had to design those exoskeletons for them just so they could move without feeling constant pain.
From where i sit, Marvel's animated shows from the 90's were a very mixed bag. With 'X-Men', and 'Spider-Man' being the ones that fans love the most. 'Avengers: United They Stand', however, was SO far removed from what most fans were expecting from an 'Avengers' cartoon. The setting, and character roster wasn't all that great, and limiting the three biggest Avengers to guest appearances didn't do the show any favors. Eventually, 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes', and 'The Marvel Cinematic Universe' would give us the 'Avengers' we deserve, but 'United They Stand' remains a failed experiment. Which results in it being one of the forgotten relics of Marvel's animation heyday in the 90's.
At the time I didn't like the character redesigns and the voice of the Scarlet Witch was particularly grating to me. While the redesigns don't look as off now that the MCU exists, I'm glad that Wanda's heavy accent hasn't continued to the present. I think part of the problem that the Avengers: United they Stand stand was the decision to have Ant-Man be the leader of the team since Hank Pym at the time still had his terrible reputation, which is one of the things the MCU fixed.

Marvel and their licensing troubles. it was probably a problem with cost. They were probably willing to pay the extra premium just for a short appearance but not willing to pay the premium for the full show
You should see Hawkeye from the 90s Iron Man cartoon particularly The episode "The Defection of Hawkeye" where he just storms off after the rest of Force Works asks where he was during a battle against The Mandarin in which he proclaims, "my business is MY business!"
This is the first time I've seen a mostly positive review of this show... hope you do one for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. What happened to _that_ show still hurts...
I couldn't really get past the first episode of UTS, but EMH is very re-watchable although half the fun of watching that show is their revisiting story arcs from the comics so you can harumph to yourself "comics was betta" while not digging them out from boxes in the basement but just sitting there with your smug on and enjoying the show.
While I do appreciate the attempt to X-Men-fy The Avengers to appeal to that audience, but I still don't understand why they would mostly leave out essential members such as Cap, Tony, and Thor when this is like the first ever Avengers cartoon if you don't count the 60s solo series.

Like people already knew the Justice League from the Superfriends shows, but I had no idea what the Avengers were, and was completely uninterested in the characters on the show
Two things that are an issue for this show for me is Wanda's terrible accent and the super sentai powerups, which are fine for being a byproduct of the time but I could do without. 12 year old me watched this as it aired and took some time to like Pym leading the team. I will say, a 13 episode season of Avengers using Ultron multiple times, using Kang, Namor, Egghead, The Circus of Crime, Nicholas Scratch, Baron Zemo and The Zodiac as villains is pretty impressive within that timeframe. I do like the teams interactions through the show, it conveys a similar comradery to the X-Men cartoon and absolutely loved the Rogue voice actresses as Tigra. I put this in the same slott as Blade the tv series, not exactly what I expect from an adaptation but a lot of fun for what they ended up doing. I really do prefer the overall feel of this show to the later Avengers cartoons, if this had gotten a second season I do feel the shortcomings mentioned would've been rectified based off your vid
Thank you for a very sober analysis of an animated series only the most hard-core Vision fan could love. I have been binging the various Avengers animated series this holiday week and I decided to watch Stand again to see what went wrong. It's sad that any five minutes of any ep of either 21st-century Avengers cartoon (Earth's Mightiest or Assemble) is better than the whole Stand season (with the exception, of course, of the Cap-based "Command Decision.") I think the only thing I really liked here was Ant-Man's backpack transport. But if a Marvel Zombie like myself has to reach that far for something positive, there is a serious, obvious problem.
Like many, I didn't watch it as it aired, but did watch it when Disney got the Marvel rights, and aired all the Marvel shows on Jetix. Like, the show ain't bad at all, it wasn't that great, but the details they had were. For example, Ant-Man/Giant-Man's costume switching was so interesting, I feel as though EMH carried it over, oh yeah, that Wasp costume... Saban's use of Sentai transformation did not work for her. Tigra actually got some play (Kinda wished she was in the MCU, but after Cats and Cheetah in WW84, I can see why they wouldn't). And I love that you can see Beast and Quicksilver's portraits in the mansion, and lastly... This is the only cartoon at the time to give us a Scarlet Witch and Vision, together, with a romance... Like wow.
The vision and scarlet witch ongoing plot was one of their best assets, but the wonky animation and repeating armor sequences took me out. Also Hawkeye was a total d bag
I grew up with the 90s shows for DC Comics and Marvel Comics, and the comics themselves. I saw the first couple of episodes of this show. It was alright.
The character roster is so amazing and unique but the show its self is horrible. It would be nice if they brought back earth mightiest heroes but with a team like this one.
I have a notebook like this when I was in Elementary. I also watched a couple of episodes of this show.. but apparently no one remembers it and no one believes me that Avengers animated series like this exist before MCU launched it. I feel some kind of relief confirming that this show is not my childhood imagination.
I haven't seen the cartoon, but the Avengers line-up could have worked. In the Sixties the team was re-organised so that only Captain America remained, while former villains including Hawkeye, Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, Goliath and the Wasp formed the "new" team. Other new members included The Black Knight, Hercules and the Black Panther. Maybe the problem was how the series was framed and the stories themselves.
I talked about this in my Unlimited video, but I think Fox were worried that 2099 would just seem like they were ripping off Beyond (even though beyond is pretty much Spider-Man 2099 but Batman).
show wasn't good but at least wanda was with the avengers where she belongs and they also used other lesser known avengers like tigra....but the lack of ironman, cap and thor hurt.
@@jamessimms3449 main thing bout UTS Ultron is that his motives were rooted in his abandonment by Hank and disdain for him. Something that distinguishes Ultron from ur average Skynet architype like MCU one. Also OG Ultron just so mental even Doom fears him unrestraint.
Fantastic Four and Ironman were made for syndication. Incredible Hulk was on UPN. None of them were Fox Kids shows. Sorry I it's trivial but every time I see a about these cartoons there's always a basic fact wrong.
Two of the most underrated Marvel Animated shows (in my eyes) would have to be AEMH and Wolverine and the X-Men. Those shows rock and they were cancelled so early on.
If I could pick a different line up for this series Avengers, I'd keep Ant-man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Vision, but the rest are pretty much forgettable. I'd replace them with Black Widow, Black Panther, and Quicksilver.
Yeah the 1990s was a very weird time for marvel comics and really wasn’t great for their comics division but I do agree marvel animation was really good but oh boy avengers united we stand was just a complete and utter trainwreck.
I remember this show. I used to love it back then, but now, not so much. I do enjoy this show, but it wasn't as good as their earlier shows (X-Men, Iron Man season 2, Fantastic Four season 2, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and even Silver Surfer), but it's still better than those disgraced shows like EMH, Assemble and those disgraced MCU films.
I’ve a few episodes of Avengers: United They Stand and I agree it’s not really good, but I think it’s a little better than Avengers Assemble. Cuz even though both have potential to be great but was wasted, at least United They Stand tried to stand out like the other marvel animated shows at the time like X-Men the animated series and Spider-Man the animated series, while Avengers Assemble was just meant to be a marketing tool for the kids so they would watch the MCU movies.
It's at time's like this, I wish they could just do what DC did, and bring back their 90's animated universe for a movie. This was not a good note to end on.
I never read comics so this show and the ultimate avengers animated movie are the reasons why I knew about the avengers way before the mcu. off topic but back then I didn't even know the difference between marvel and dc(until the mid 2000's) so I was constantly hoping to see a cameo of let's say batman tas with the 90's x-men just like when they had that one episode with 90's spiderman.
I barely remember this show, I think I saw tv ads for it. Though I definitely remember Spider-Man Unlimited. I was genuinely confused as to if that show was a continuation of the previous Spider-Man show and I didn't like how he was on a different planet, fighting animal people.
Even if they had "The Big Three" of the Avengers this show still would've sucked. Between 1997-1999 Marvel and DC had the idea to do they're most popular superhero teams, the JLA and the Avengers, and not have their holy trinities as regulars on the team. I mean, what made them think this would be a good idea? That's like having an X-Men animated series and not having the mutant trinity of Storm, Cyclops, and Wolverine. Even the first X-Men movie got this right. But regardless of this fact, the JLA TV movie and Avengers UTS were still abysmal from production value to voice work. While I love Cal Dodd as Wolverine he was superbly miscast as Hawkeye. But the writing was bad anyway, so no voice actor could save it. This and Spider-Man Unlimited are best skipped over. Even as a huge Marvel fan I still recommend that fans stay away from these two Marvel shows that came out at the turn of the century. You have so many better Marvel movies and shows to pick and choose from.
Avengers UTS wasn't in continuity with the shared 90s animated universe. Earths Mightiest Heroes works far better as a spiritual sequel to the shared animated universe.
This Show was Okay. I wasn’t a big fan of The Zodiac. I think Ultron and The Grim Reaper should’ve teamed up against The Avengers in The Final Episode instead of The Boring Zodiac as The Final Main Villains.
I am convinced that the Scarlet Witch in this series is partly responsible for the low ratings. She was so exasperating. Winds of Destiny Change 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤢🤢🤢. She was AWFUL!! Sha la la la la la la. Just Awful 😂😂
1999: More people watch Pokémon than the Avengers 20 Years Later: More people watched the Avengers Endgame than Pokémon Detective Pikachu It almost feels like the Avengers got their revenge at Pokémon.
This show was trash bruh. They scraped the cool ass looking captain america cartoon for this crap. Dawg Im so mad. My childhood would have been way more awesome than it was. Well at least we had emh decades later. But yeah I remember this piece of garbage.
I remember this show. Still have the toys. I think I used to watch it with my cousin. So long ago now. Despite the bad press, I still think it was a noble effort. However, I believe the definitive Avengers show was Earths Mightiest Heroes. That was everything an Avengers show needed to be. It rivals Justice League Unlimited, if you ask me.
Slight correction/clarification. Iron Man, Fantastic Four, and Hulk weren't Fox Kids shows. Iron Man and Fantastic Four were in syndication as part of the Marvel Action Hour and their season 1 wasn't very good either. For season 2 Tom Tartacowitz (sp?) redubbed the block Marvel Action Universe (the same name as a prior syndicated block) and revamped both shows, making them far superior. He also made the first season of The Incredible Hulk for UPN, and brought that same high quality, but left in season 2 which you can tell because the quality dropped. As for United They Stand it wasn't that great. I actually liked the cast choice but the writing was not that great, the animation clearly showed its budget, and while I like armored heroes this show overdid it by giving almost everyone armor, complete with a suit up sequence. I wanted to like it but it just didn't seem as as much love was put into it as other Marvel shows around that time.

Wonderman was rocking the black and red t-shirt way before young justice superboy
The fact we never got a captain America show is criminal.
Also, United we stand was better than f4 and silver surfer cartoons
no kidding...also a nice animated DAREDEVIL show would have been cool
Like wow.
same
The vision and scarlet witch ongoing plot was one of their best assets, but the wonky animation and repeating armor sequences took me out.
Not having the "big 3" in the lineup was probably was a licensing cost issue rather than a creative decision
To this day I question, if they wanted to compete against Batman Beyond why not make Spider-man 2099?
I talked about this in my Unlimited video, but I think Fox were worried that 2099 would just seem like they were ripping off Beyond (even though beyond is pretty much Spider-Man 2099 but Batman).
show wasn't good but at least wanda was with the avengers where she belongs and they also used other lesser known avengers like tigra....but the lack of ironman, cap and thor hurt.
United They Stand Ultron was better characterized Ultron than MCU one.
Change my mind.
Interestingly, I believe the United They Stand version was much closer to the original comics. So yeah, I agree.
"I'm glad you asked that because I wanted to take this time to explain my evil plan"
Those shows rock and they were cancelled so early on.
you ppl do realize this is what the mce is now no ironman no capt no widow no hawkeye
RUclips recommending this after this version of Tigra’s appearance in Chip ‘n Dale is no coincidence
After xmen 97 I want an avengers cartoon with cap, iron man, hulk and these guys.
If I could pick a different line up for this series Avengers, I'd keep Ant-man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Vision, but the rest are pretty much forgettable. I'd replace them with Black Widow, Black Panther, and Quicksilver.
Am I the only one who had Disney+ and when saw the show and wanted to try it out and even though I’m now on 4 episodes and I liked it?
Probably
Since you did one on the worst Avengers cartoon, maybe you could one on the best Avengers cartoon now… 😉
#SaveAvengersEMH
Yeah the 1990s was a very weird time for marvel comics and really wasn’t great for their comics division but I do agree marvel animation was really good but oh boy avengers united we stand was just a complete and utter trainwreck.
honestly I thought Marvel hit an all time low when they made this cartoon.
@@bigbabysld i can understand that
this show gets a lot of hate for some reason, i have no idea *why* people hate it but they do :-/
we'll never know
Terrible Avengers Cartoon.
So Glad It Got Canceled.
Man I remember Scarlet Witches accent and man I couldn't take her seriously at all.
Roland Poindexter is a badass name lol
I use to tape all the espiodes
This series actually introduced me to Ant-Man, Wasp, Falcon, Tigra, Wonder Man, Vision, and Ultron
1999: More people watch Pokémon than the Avengers
20 Years Later: More people watched the Avengers Endgame than Pokémon Detective Pikachu
It almost feels like the Avengers got their revenge at Pokémon.
Great vid.
Correction though, Hulk, F4 and Iron Man were not on Fox Kids.
Hulk was on UPN while the other two were syndicated.
Who's your favourite Marvel villain?
Tough question, probably either Doctor Doom or Magneto.
@@OwenLikesComics GREAT CHOICES MATE!!!!!
Doctor Doom!!!!
✨Winds of Destiny Change✨
Did you ever cover the Spider Man MTV series?
I did! ruclips.net/video/Z8yR6x3S6Dk/видео.html
This show was trash bruh. They scraped the cool ass looking captain america cartoon for this crap. Dawg Im so mad. My childhood would have been way more awesome than it was. Well at least we had emh decades later. But yeah I remember this piece of garbage.
With hawkeye's caffeine addiction, I'm surprised they didn't make him have coffee enimas.
The costumes were terrible. They looked like they were trying to be robots or something.
You are underrated
With the success of X-men 97 they should bring this back
This show is really really garbage. The plot and storytelling made no sense.
thanks for a fair review instead of making it a bashfest, like the last 2 videos i saw were
I remember this show.
Not just definitive Avengers show, but the definitive Avengers adaptation of all, including MCU
Once upon a Time there was a saying called leaf well enough alone need I say more
I don’t really care what I think about this video.
The show was so fucking ugly man
Because the Cartoon not Anime was not Good!!!
What were all 8 shows
X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man Unlimited and Avengers: United They Stand.
