    So good to see more of poo poo Herald and your thought process on what may be wrong. What a fantastic car for working on, and proove your expertise as a mechanic. I like a soup interlude.

    I don’t think, like you, that the work you’ve done will make much difference, UNLESS the inlet manifold gasket was allowing air in. Maybe? How did a compression test do? I think you’ll probably end up having the head off and checking everything out, lapping the valves, replacing the seals, check the guides, make sure the pushrods are straight and good. Luckily, those engines are just so easy to work on, highly accessible and really quite a lot of fun to put together. The Herald being a body on a ladder frame chassis, will always rattle and shake, and they are generally noisy buggers. But! But, I had one for quite a few years, and my girlfriend at the time pointed out to me that never was the smile on my face so wide as when I was driving that herald, because it was fun. The rear wheels tuck under when you brake or slow down, causing massive and unpredictable oversteer; and so you will learn to accelerate through corners, at the same time as holding the drivers door because it may well fly open on a tight left hander! Oh yes, easy to work on (almost continually), but always fun. Oh, and one last thing…OIL in the trunnions not grease, and do it regularly! Have fun.

    I really hope you solve the problem. The 13/60 has a particularly sweet engine when it’s running right, very willing and with a surprising performance, nearly as good as the 1600 6 in the Vitesse.
    I’m sure you’ll grow to love it when it’s done. 😂

    Oh joy the Herald!
    I had some sad news today and earlier channel hopping to cheer up (not that successful!) I came by accident to ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ and there centre screen was a T. Herald - the idea of an alternative name occurred’Nora Batty’ for yours. Forgive the madness!!

    Hi Alex,
    Good job done there so far, hope the next episode goes as well as this one did. I needed to watch this now to cheer me up as I had just had a little shock. The procedure I'm having done at the hospital I thought was going to be an in-out same day job, but apparently I'm going to be in overnight at least. I didn't expect that, but still, it will be worth it if it's going to improve my breathing...🥴🤧🤓
    Take care,
    Jon B. x

    Hope the Rover 75 just needs a clutch bleed… bit of a faff down in the footwell bit doable and there is a reverse bleeding technique as well. DMGRS sell improved metal clutch kits that might be worthwhile doing on an otherwise solid Diesel Tourer.
    Good job on the broken stud extraction job, but for some the Rimmer Bros exchange option is not unreasonable for a proper refreshed exchange item. Should there be a sealing gasket between the exhaust manifold and downpipe ?

      @Alexsassets  22 часа назад

      Yes there's a gasket between downpipe and manifold.
      75 needs new master cyl as is leaking

    Broken studs could be allowing a vacuum leak on the inlet. Even a small vacuum leak will make it run like sh1t……

    • @Alexsassets
      @Alexsassets  День назад +1

      The broken studs were on outlet only

    Something rather rude at the end there? I'm inspired by your perseverance to get it all drilled out and back on. I think if it was me I would probably leave to another day.

    One thing I did when I owned a 1971 Herald 13/60 estate that I was stupid to swap for a rubbish P6 2000TC. I don't get we wrong, I do like them, it was an excellent handling car, but my one was unreliable. I purchased a pair of SU on a Spitfire Mk3 inlet manifold from a car boot sale, and a steel 4 into 1 exhaust manifold, and the car was transformed. Alas the 'mechanic' who I swapped with put the original carb and manifold on, and probably charged the new owner for the privilege.
