    That crackling down the phone line commentary would have been seen as technical issues back than but today it sounds so great. It just the distance between the living room TV & where the match took place.

    I was behind one of those goal posts working freelance at the time. During pre-game warm up got to meet one of the all time greats Kevin Keegan. Hooliganism was in high gear 1970's. Zurich was locked down in expectation of problems. LOL. Ahhhhh...memories.....

    The muffled commentary, the klaxons and horns of the crowd, the 70's Umbro kits. Has football ever been better?

    It often seems to me like in the 1970s, almost all European Cup games were between a white team and a red team.

    Doğan Babacan (Turkish) was the referee. Do you, remember him from the world cup, 1974? Caszely, the captain of Chile was sent of by him at the match against Germany.

    Without a doubt, Zurich Zur-out!
    Joey Ate the Frog's Legs,
    Then he made the Swiss Roll,
    And now he's Moenchengladbach!

    This is a semi final? Too much easy

    • @Neil_MALTHUS
      @Neil_MALTHUS 5 лет назад +8

      The playing field was a lot more 'level' back then though, throughout Europe. So it wasn't 'too much [sic] easy' at all. To buy Liverpool would probably have cost an entrepreneur two or three times as much as it would Zurich. Liverpool was full of British internationals. Zurich would have had a fair few Swiss ones. Nowadays, it's probably more in the region of FIFTY times as much (or so) to try buying Liverpool. Silly sponsorship money, silly tv money hadn't reached the British Isles by 1977, had it? Zurich will probably never EVER get to another semi-final. The passage of time has been kinder to the big clubs in a handful of European leagues than it has the smaller leagues.
      You can only beat who you're playing. A lot of times, a lot of the biggest European clubs' European campaigns would falter at the hands of one of these 'easy' teams. Things were different back then. But the achievement of winning a European trophy was every bit as massive back then as it is today and to argue otherwise kind of makes you look pretty ignorant if you ask me.
      Hope that helps.

    Najłatwiejszy półfinał Liverpoolu, słaby rywal ze Szwajcarii
