Are you dreaming of converting a school bus into a tiny home? Join Alisa and Kevin as they showcase their beautifully transformed bus, Hygge. Living in vehicles has been a long-standing adventure for them, and enlarging that lifestyle into a skoolie was an exciting challenge. In this video, they share their journey and offer valuable insights for anyone looking to embrace the mobile tiny home lifestyle.
[Kitchen Tour & Features]
Their skoolie kitchen boasts a side-by-side parallel design, optimizing the functional triangle of refrigerator, sink, and stove. They opted for a larger sink, perfect for conserving water while boondocking, and custom-made countertops crafted from local beetle-kill pine. Their kitchen is equipped with a three-burner stove and a versatile toaster oven, perfect for cooking all our favorite meals. The rolling pantry is a unique feature, providing ample storage and additional workspace.
[Bathroom & DIY Composting Toilet]
The bathroom in their bus is split into two functional areas: the toilet room and the shower. They built our own composting toilet, complete with a urine diverter and storage for essentials. The shower is lined with durable galvanized metal and features a custom-made stainless steel shower pan. They added a teak mat for comfort and use a magnetic arm showerhead to save water.
[Bedroom & Storage Solutions]
Their cozy bedroom features a full-size bed with plenty of storage underneath, including designated spaces for our batteries and other essentials. They each have our own spacious closet, providing ample room for all our clothes and belongings. The design emphasizes simplicity and comfort, making the most of every inch of space.
[Living and Dining Area]
The living and dining area is versatile and functional, perfect for relaxing or entertaining guests. Their Ikea double drop-leaf table can accommodate up to eight people, and the couch converts into a full-size bed for additional sleeping space. They’ve maximized storage with built-in drawers and under-seat compartments, ensuring everything has its place.
[The Garage & Outdoor Gear Storage]
At the back of the bus, our garage area houses all their outdoor gear, including two electric bikes. It also serves as the hub for our solar power setup, with four 190-watt panels providing all the energy we need. They’ve designed this space to be practical and efficient, keeping everything organized and easily accessible.
[Sustainable Living & Final Thoughts]
Living in a skoolie offers a unique opportunity to embrace a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle. They encourage everyone to leave public lands better than they found them and to respect the natural beauty around us. While we designing it we went through each room in our Sticks home and said, “ok, what from here are we going to want there, and where is it going to go?”
And we made sure everything had a place….if we want to add more “stuff” anywhere, then something else has to go😂

Lovely couple and van. I grew up in Colorado. So sweet how you met. 💜 Many wise words. I love your comments on fear, and on the accountability and responsibility we all have to protect and take care of the areas we live in. We live part time at a marina in a boat (other time at our tiny cabin)…and I sure wish the marina staff understood that the live -aboards are truly the extra eyes and ears for them-on SO many levels-including security. Sigh. It’s awesome you can see how we can all work together. 😊

I agree with you, too! They were very lucky to find the right people to help them build it out. The construction guys that helped me with my bus were very intimidated by building a "tiny house" and never completed my requests. So, I've been doing most of the rest of the work alone... I'm a 5'6" 120 lb female with neck & back issues, so it's not easy. But, I love my bus, too 😊

What a beautiful bus. I absolutely adore it. So wonderfully created. I have a vw T4 and love it but this bus is an absolute dream. I'm from the UK so skoolies are not common over here which is a real shame as they make stunning conversions ❤

I wonder what year your bus is? Your bus looks very similar to mine, but appears to be newer based on your lights. Mine is a 1992 and you can see it on my channel. We had a very similar idea with the kitchen, but I still need to install my pull out... like most of us that live this way... you're always working on something 😂 How long have you lived in yours? I've been in mine since February 2021.

I agree with all the compliments stated here and I will add my 2 cents ......if you love love your beautiful cat and want a longer life with less vet visits please please don't feed her dry kibble only wet food 🙏🏼 there's tons of info on this on Utube or you can Google .
