This is actually the best video I could find regarding the sounds. I was playing around with the prophet 5 and I had made a sound that it very similar to the one in the song and had a nice filter sustain and it lacked a bit of punch so I am going to go and layer on a dx7 to it. Amazing video, Keep up the good work.
I may be biased since this is one of my all-time favorite songs, but that also add more weight to what I'm about to say: This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on RUclips since its inception. Completely and utterly BLOWN AWAY, Blake!! Whoa... You beyond crushed it with this!! More iconic 80s songs breakdowns, please!! You're on point!
Great analysis of one of most ethereal and memorable songs of 80's. Lyrics are quite mesmerizing, almost scriptural. The simple components blend into such a complex unison of effect. 🤗🤗🤗♥️🌹
What I like about this video is that you were able to got ahold of Chris (Merrick) Hughes (who produced "Songs From The Big Chair") and found out what was used to make this classic song. Great job recreating it. 😊
This video was INCREDIBLE! I grew up with this song, and I really appreciate how much respect you paid to the song. Really takes me back to the day this played on the radio. I would love to hear a version where you layer your vocals. Kind of mimicking the duo singing together. Thanks! You have a new subscriber.
0:30 Whoa, I was trying to recreate this today and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out what the key was, it sounded a quarter-step off. Nice to see that suspicion confirmed. And holy smokes, after listening to this whole thing, you absolutely crushed it! Not only was it incredibly insightful to the production process involved (both originally and on your end), you just flat-out did this track justice. Respect!
I need you to do about 100 more of these. What a fantastic, detailed video that should be the impetus for a whole series. I'd love you to interview the producers and engineers as a part of the re-creation as well. Man. I'm impressed and inspired. I'd love "When It's Love" by Van Halen, "Alone" by Heart, and "Tom Sawyer" by Rush.
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me. This was actually my senior thesis for college so it was a lot of work but I enjoyed every second of it. Hopefully I can find the time to do some more!
this has been uploaded for over a year now. i dont understand why this vid only has around 7k views, i mean this deserves to be up there seen by many more people. hands down to this recreation
Man! Thank you so much! I was really passionate about making an authentic recreation when I did it and thought I would do more, but alas here I am a year later lol.
HOT Recreation, that's my way of saying it's great and it's high quality. This has inspired me to continue my eternal search for that sweet sweet PPG Wave bass sound in my PPG wave VST plugin.
Omg. Incredible job. I've been trying to recreate the begginning of this song (cause I just bought a MPK mini too) and I had no idea of where to go! I can't imagine how long it took to record and produce this song.
crazy how these people are alive and available to give you such precious production data. You just have to research a bit and reach out. Great recreation and also great piece of content.
If you're referring to the intro part, I ended up making something from scratch because I could never find anything exact, given the information I received from Chris Merrick Hughes. I believe I used the JP-8000 sample in Omnisphere.
I always wanted to hear a darker, more menacing version of this song. Congrats on replicating the original almost to the note, but a darker take on this could be a massive hit.. 😏
Amazing! Only one question popped into my head: what is the name of the program that you used to do all this magic? I usually see music creations made with the Garage Band interface, but this one I've never seen before.
@@myusernamewassoass I would send it to you but the hard drive with this project was lost! You can actually find the original stems online if that's what you're looking for!
Great video@@blakecross113 I've been trying to track down the stems for this for years! Kudos to you for getting in touch with Chris Hughes. I couldn't get enough of his drumming back in the Kings of the Wild Frontier days. Happily showing my age there!
Damn this is just spot on! Annoying question but what is the little Arp intro you used, that sounds identical? I read that it was two DX7s layers but yours sounds way closer. Also what the processing on that AG 2 track, it sounds almost synth like?
You have no idea how long it took to make that intro synth lol. I ended up using a JP-8000 sample from omnisphere to get the closest sound. Because the history is so spotty I found that it was near impossible to get the exact sounds using the listed synths on the track. So I experimented with other synths that could have been around at the same time. As per the Acoustic processing, you can see at 2:34 that it's pretty typical up until you get to the doubler plugin. That really that magic sound of this track. Hope that helps!
@@blakecross113 Haha im certainly struggling to make that synth sound as well, yours sounds closest to the original though. Ive been using a JP-8000 but just cant quite get it to sound right, do you remember at all what kind of wave it was?
This video is so underrated wtf
Thank you so much! Means a lot
Agreed
So cool. Great job.

Youre right
I love my dx7. It’s the goat of synthesizer and it’s apart of almost every pop song in the 80s. It’s still used till this day.
This is probably my favorite song of all time. AND YOU NAILED IT!
This video literally need millions of views
Thank you!

That would be the sickest thing ever honestly. Thank you so much!
Wow! The synth and drum sounds comes really close to the original recording.
Dude this is Epic!
The intro beat reminds me of "The Way You Make Me Feel" by MJ
fun fact, michael admitted in an interview that he stole the beat from this song
Dude….need more content. This was really good.
nice video man!
bruh this is so good. you should do this for Your Love by The Outfield

@@kginkling I would! But I actually lost the hard drive that this song was on!
What are the notes played before everything kicks in?! I can never figure them out!
Officially they made the first intro sound with 2 patches of the DX7 layered under each other
