Hi, I'm Christian, I'm a musician and RUclipsr and I'm not only borderline obsessed...I'm addicted to music...there's been a time in my life where my relationship with music, my way of interacting with it was rather toxic...even to such an extent that I almost ruined my life...financially, socially, whatever! The thoughts you're sharing in this vid are pure gold, mate! Thanks for sharing them with us!

It’s by design! These platforms reward posting top tier content daily. It’s not made for artists and musicians. This is why we’re burnt out all the time. We’re not wired to pump out art non stop. I’m totally in the same boat. The videos I’m most proud of and had the most fun making have the least amount of views lol. Take as much time as you need my dude. We’ll all be here when you get back!

Always a great job providing perspective about the feel of something…whether that’s how a piece of gear performs, or how being a content creator is…you have to pace yourself and take breaks, and still make art that you enjoy making, even if the algorithm tells you differently. That’s why I still spend the most making videos that I love making, even if those struggle to hit 10% of views of my “algorithm” videos. Keep making the stuff you like to make! And enjoy the well deserved break with the family!

Great advice. Another thing to watch for is if your day job, which we all need to survive, is helping you fulfill your life or if you’re overworked, burned out, stressed out and can’t enjoy the creative moments of hobbies and music making. That’s where I’m at right now. Considering a job or even a career change to restore joy into my life.

I’m at this point but I also can say I learned I have to be real with myself. Because I DO have time to do music on my off days or after work but do I choose to do it? A lot of times, no. Most days I want to chill, do other things. Some days I’ll do music but it’s not this burning desire I have anymore. Just being real sometimes we lose the passion to do something, and try to blame it on not having enough time or energy. It’s ok to fall in and out of love with a hobby. Right now I’m not in love with music especially not the way I used to be in my late teens early twenties. Not going to beat myself up about it. Unless its a lifelong pursuit like your intention is to go pro, don’t be so hard on yourself, Just my two cents.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of this my friend. These platforms can turn into a treadmill with no Off Button, and you feel compelled to continuously upload to stay on track. I found myself creating just to upload and not creating to express myself, and you feel like if you stop uploading you'll become disqualified or forgotten, and that's not why I create. I'm on a break now, but I'm creating and doing what I want, and will come back when I'm inspired to do so. Always love what you bring to the community, and take all the time you need! God bless!🙏🏾✊🏾💚

Great and well timed message for me. I’m currently working on upgrading my old MacBook Pro and the process is leading to frustration. Your message helped to put things in perspective, the MacBook is one of three that I have and it’s the system for my production desk and not my primary studio Mac. My frustration is overblown and unnecessary because I’m still able to make beats on my MacBook Air and take the production to my main desk. We lose perspective a lot in our creative process and sometimes need someone to pull us out of the hole we are digging. Thank you and enjoy your time with your family n 👍🏽

I totally understand your concern. Breaks are super important. Take it for as long as you can. The solution is pre-producing but the reality is different. To be honest, I haven't really taken a break in about 10 years where I haven't done anything that isn't part of my job. I made breaks for 2-3 days or so and then I worked again. Like last Christmas holidays. But as a RUclipsr or solo-operating media brand, you have the freedom to work when you want. You can also take 1 day off. That's how I do it mostly. Hope you are doing it better than me 😁 Hope we will see us again at Superbooth 😃 greetings from Vienna :)

Hey, I enjoy life when I'm doing creative things. Yeah, I could go out more, I could meet more people, I could do more sports. I do pay a lot of attention to get sleep when I'm tired (even if it's 5 p.m.), but for example during lockdown, I was really happy about the RUclips community I built and the feedback I got (I got a lot, I have 26k subs). True words! Music should always mean fun and never pressure and stress. You forget that far too often because you always have the feeling that you have to deliver something. Many people here are hobby musicians (like me). Who do we want to prove something to and why? Music is something wonderful and you should always make sure that it stays that way for yourself. Thank you for these words and thank you for your always wonderful videos and your music. All the best and enjoy your time with your family.

Thank you so much for making a video about this!
I am trying to recover from depression. I have changed from not doing anything to doing nothing other than art for a few weeks. Anybody mentally healthy would tell that… It isn’t. But I’m not as healthy as I wished to be, at any rate, I thought motivation was the hard part. But for me, the hard part is to accept not to be creative, to do mundane things like cooking something nice for myself, or going for a walk. I need to limit the time I spend working, otherwise I could do just that. In the algorithm age, I think it’s difficult to ignore numbers going up as evidence you are doing good. Again, obvious stuff to someone with the mental clarity and hindsight. But when you have trouble taking care of yourself, I think there is definitely « overcreating » similar to « overeating ».
Enough of me, thank you again for bringing this topic up! We need more of that « stop trying to be perfect and productive » talk amongst our community. What you are doing is very important.

On the opposite end of needing a break, for those (myself included) looking for more motivation to be creative (perhaps in cold winter months depending on your hemisphere) - I'm trying a new thing similar to Jamuary but a lot less stressful (weekly instead of daily) - that has no rules other than "make a sound". It doesn't have to be a completed track; you don't have to spend a whole day or what have you. Even if I only spend 30-45 minutes; three weeks in I'm just trying to make something and record it. I don't even really edit it much; just create a tiny thing and see if that helps you slowly boost your motivation.
On the other end, breaks are self happiness are equally important as per the video :)

When you enter to the surtain Music stage people will wait for you and your music but on that way we all have to make new contacts maybe new friends and that's how it gets another value other than just income and it's something that is rare but is space for colaborations and sharing ideas and maybe then people who like your music will start to write to you how they are doing feeling ect. It's wonderful and specific expirience but if you choosing between Music journey and future or current Family, believe me it's crazy to even think about anything else from the Family, it's a Dream of generations of the millions today and it's a real value. Have no doubt but in this video on this channel it's almost...I wish you all the best but at least make honest Art about what are you experiencing. Art will become a value only if it's shared with another people.

Do you my friend I will be watching and I agree 100%… I took a month off from social media due to family medical issues and the algorithm’s pretty much put me into oblivion since then… This system seems designed to penalize creators who don’t constantly feed it… Made me realize better to just be happy and make content I enjoy instead of making content that might get attention… I feel everything happens for a reason and life moves way to fast to focus solely on just creating what you think random strangers might like…

  • @zuur303

I have a busy day job too (writing, so creative but not music-creative) and I religiously set aside some of my time off being idle. Zilch. In The Netherlands there's the concept of niksen (literally a verb that means to do nothing) and it's a lost art I am trying to keep alive. And sure I get the occasional Calvinistic twinge of "I really should be doing something useful" but then I remember... no, this idleness is *exactly* what I'm supposed to be 'doing'. After a few days of that throughout the year I'm recharged and ready for a new stretch of (creative) work. Breaks are important y'all. Listen to the man.

  • @gapster77
    @gapster77 4 месяца назад

This is all true. Life matters most. If you find yourself bored or uninspired, and unable to create then just stop, do something else. Go for a walk with your family, see the sea, fly a kite, play some video games or try a different creative outlet like painting. It’s all good for the soul, and too much of one thing isn’t. Finding being content with what you create is essential, and to look at or listen to that thing after the process is complete and find yourself slightly unhappy with a detail here or there, or wishing you’d done something a little different, it’s good, that’s the point! You can’t grow if you don’t test your boundaries and reach a little further.
