    Your a true master ! never seen anyone in my 55 yr life twirl the double sticks as proficient like you just performed ! You were very excellent in describing the true techniques of double sticks...enjoyable...Have a great day !

    • @CJScratch
      @CJScratch 2 года назад

      to be honest the way he's twirling the sticks is the worst possible way to do so .... he opens his hands and spreads his fingers . the moment someone hits his sticks they would go flying across the room he also has no control over the stick .you should never open your hands and loosen up your grip you will lose your weapon . the proper way to twirl your sticks is rotating your wrist while keeping a firm grip.

    ***** Not sure where that comment went but in reply to -
    "im studying a system called Filipino Fighting Arts. thats pretty interresting! and do u really study it that way, i mean the basics, open hand grip etc, stick proportions etc?"
    The techniques are different - 12 basic strikes (no thrusting strikes) rather than 14 with different strikes for the angles. We're also taught never to spin the stick open hand as it's a really easy way to end up disarmed. Stick proportions-wise we use 32" sticks so fan strikes are out of the window as the sticks are too heavy. Footwork's different too - none of the pivoting on the ball of the foot (personally I think it weakens the attacking stance and opens you up to some potentially nasty counter strikes, namely a good swift kick to the side of the knee joint) but the body mechanics are the same - hip motion to increase striking power. There's also little to no sport side to the system
    Also it's taught Filipino style - none of the formality of Japanese martial arts! It's really interesting seeing how many different styles of escrima there are out there

    • @rodneycoulman1996
      @rodneycoulman1996 9 лет назад +1

      stormdetonation85 I have trained in FMA for a decade now, in that time I trained under GM Greg Henderson. I have also travelled to the Philippines several times to train with many Grand Masters. Every style is different, from the footwork, the striking patterns, ect ect. Personally, I train with many different size and weight canes, everyone In my club does, there are NO regulation sizes. We only have 7 basic strikes (research quadrant theory), it is simplified for combatives. We too, never spin the canes like that, as you said, its very bad form and will easily disarm.
      Happy training =)

    I have to say, with no vestment in either Ninjutsu or FMA, the 6 count drill I see being taught here looks very much like a Heaven six drill commonly taught in any FMA styles,

    • @kevincopeland2316
      @kevincopeland2316 6 лет назад +2

      that is not the Heaven six count, but the standard six count or what some systems call a split six count drill. A Heaven six is all high strikes to the head. A right high forehand slash, left backhand high slash, & right backhand high slash off the right side then repeat the pattern off your left side. That's what Heaven six is!

    90% of what people teach these days involving short sticks and blades is derived from FMA. Remember though, those who post at to the validity of these drills: they're drills designed to promote flexibility and fluidity of motion. Don't read too deeply into a drill beyond said drill.
