    I'm allergic to my own sweat. Yes, it was diagnosed by a dermatologist. If sweat remains too long on my skin, I get hives on that area. I have to rinse it off quickly after exercise. During spring and summer, depending on the weather I have to shower at least 2 or 3 times a day, or else I get hives on the inside of my arms, armpits, around my neck, groin, and behind the knees. Generally I deal with it by rinsing with cold water and not scratching .If it gets too bad, I have antihistamine cream.

    i'm allergic to heat, though less so as an adult than when I was a kid-- a hot shower makes me break out in itchy hives. my cousin is allergic to any sudden temperature change, hot or cold-- so both showers and swimming are hard for her. nice to see it talked about here, since I've had a handful of interactions where I mentioned this to people and they flat-out didn't believe me because they didn't think it was possible. immune systems are weird!

    I went through a period when I really thought I had a water allergy, as each shower would render me useless for an hour or so afterward, just lying under my sheets, clawing my arms and legs nonstop, due to the itching that was beyond itching, like thousands of stingy electric shocks occurring. For some reason it was mainly my upper arms and thighs, but also butt and stomach to some extent. And yes, sometimes my trachea would spasm and feel tight, like after crying. I tried all kinds of things and even considered getting an expensive filter on my shower, but even rain or just high humidity could trigger severe itching so I knew it wasn't anything in my city's water.
    Then one day I tried applying coconut oil in the shower, after reading a tip about it. But all it did was leave me greasy; hot water didn't rinse it completely away, nor did a towel. And I was still left itching like crazy as usual, but the nice thing I noticed was the lubrication of the oil made scratching more effective ....then.... I noticed something gross: grayish colored oil collecting wherever I raked it, meaning dirt. So I grabbed a plastic bank card and started scraping it from my upper arm, kind of fascinated at this point. And the craziest thing happened; I saw all these tiny, nearly transparent hairs spring up from the skin wherever I'd just scraped, kind of slowly like a butterfly coming out of its' cocoon. It turned out all the places where I thought my skin was just bumpy was actually TONS of ingrown hairs, and getting moist aggravated them. Since then I have just made a point to exfoliate extensively a couple times a month, and never had the electric post-shower itch ever again.

      @@sprinklescake1137 Well certainly I had heard the term 'exfoliate' before, but only as a beauty tip for the face, ha. And I had used apricot scrub since I was a teen in the late 80's, for my face. But all that the rest of my body seemed to need was mere wiping with body wash and rinsing ....until my late 30's. Apparently by then changes had occurred without me noticing. I remember my daughter who was just 6 or 7 sitting next to me when I was wearing a tank top, tracing her fingers on my upper arm and asking why it was so bumpy. I was like, "I dunno, some people are just bumpy," without realizing I didn't USED TO be bumpy (nor red, god my upper arms had gotten so angry red by that point). And it was not long after that when I made the accidental discovery that, in reality, big areas of my skin were encased in a layer of dirty dead skin. Now I'm non-bumpy, non-itchy, and all the same color, LOL.

Now I'm 48 and I could tell you all about my 2 humidifiers and humidity gauge made for a reptile aquarium that I keep handy to read all through the winter, or I'll wind up with the electric zap clawing all over again, exfoliated or not!

      My dermographia only did that once, when I was under a sun lamp with UVB as part of its spectrum. The entire side facing the light welted up like The Exorcist, then, when I turned around, the other side did it. I already knew I had dermographia, but not like that. Strangely tho, it never happened in ordinary sunlight, nor in tanning beds with only UVA rays. I was a lifeguard 33/34 years ago. For info's sake, I'm olive complected, just 1% Black, and 1% Native American, with a couple of genes from India (a tanning allele) and North Africa (a 7x melanin booster), that somehow made it into my otherwise EuroAmerican family.
      Side note: bigots frequently demand to know my ethnicity, or just call me ugly names based on thinking I'm Middle Eastern or Mexican. I hate bigots. As if dermographia wasn't enough to deal with. And if it's like that for me, I know it's worse for people with darker skin. But look at us all here, different tones, all the same underlying issue. I actually have two of these allergies... my body hates me.. or just wants to protect me lol. Its not serious like many people but it is a pain.
    So I have an allergy to the cold... Even though I'm Canadian in the eastern coast. I break out in hives and my hands can swell up just by putting my hands quickly under cold running water. During winter, i need to watch out since my fingers can swell so badly and painfully. And my face... oh my face... And the hives are everywhere, to the point that they grow so big, they join together with other hives lol.
    The second one is vibration. When I was young, I always wondered when I was clapping my hands, why it would itch and become red and inflamed. I found out way later one its a mild case of vibration allergy... Go figure... And that also goes for showers, the pressure of the water hitting me, hottubs and their jets, etc etc.

      No hot showers in winter, no walking outside in the summer sun too long, no driving where the sun is beaming on your arm too long, I agree. I've got it , official name cholinergic urticaria. Mine is related to my asthma, and the trio of odd allergies, asthma and eczema probably nets you a diagnosis of atopy. Immune system overreaction, probably genetic.

    Hi someone with chronic dermatographic urticaria (number one) here and it’s as bad at it sounds. I have it so severe that sometime just a gust of wind or even nothing at all can cause my skin to burst out into hives so painful and intense I have to jump into cold water. Luckily! I’m on an extremely high dosage of Zyrtec and since being on it I’ve been able to get control over my flare ups! I also keep my skin very moisturized and that helps a ton to cut down on flare ups!

    I was kinda happy seeing mine talked about! I'm allergic to cold, but for me it's pretty mild all things considered. I only really get it on my hands and feet, as well as a couple joints (mainly elbows and knees), and so far i haven't had any issues other than welts and swelling in the area. I always feel weird when it happens, because it feels like I'm being over dramatic somehow? I don't know if that's a common thing for people with odd allergies or similar things. Either way, it's not great, especially since I can't handle heat.

    I used to have Dermographism really bad (diagnosed by my Neurogastroenterologist, confirmed by my primary neurologist and others), the thing was it never was consistent. Sometimes it barely happened, I could still draw on my skin but it wasn't bad. Then in some cases it was bad enough to become about as itchy as hives, very hot to burning hot, my throat would also get really really really itchy and kind of swollen (though that might have been EoE or other things). Then after the last bad cycle, it just gradually went away to the point that I don't notice it anymore. My skin still turns really red from contact very quickly, not sure what that's about lol.

    My mother has a couple of weird allergies. First, she is allergic to pepper, more specifically to capsaicin, which gives pepper its heat. This makes eating out almost impossible. We hsve to tell the server, "No black pepper, red pepper, bell peppers, paprika, etc. "
    Her other weird allergy is that she is allergic to metal. She first developed this when she got her ears pierced as a child. Since then she can't have any kind of metal jewelry against her skin. She can stll handle coins and silverware, but if it is touching her more than an hour or two, she will break out in a rash.

    • @TheBackyardChemist
      @TheBackyardChemist 6 лет назад +31

      black pepper has zero capsaicin, so I call BS on that, but metal allergy is quite common, a lot of people are allergic to nickel. try using 18 or 20 carat gold or titanium for jewelry, they are usually very unlikely to cause a reaction

    • @wattsisnaim8111

      My mother's GI track would disagree. Even a little black pepper sets her mouth on fire, and that fire keeps going the along the whole trip, ending in diarrhea. Any pepper in the air makes it hard for her to breathe, so no cooking spicy food when she visits. If she uses a capsaicin pain cream, she breaks out. If there isn't capsaicin in black pepper, than there is something close enough to trigger her allergy.

      The heat of black pepper comes from piperine. Does she also react to ginger? Myabe the probllem lies in the receptors and not the substance.

    #3 Cold Urticaria is something I have and I was diagnosed with at thirteen (I'm currently 31). Fortunately, I've never gone into anaphylaxis, but if I'm exposed to the cold or drink something too cold I break out into hives and experience the angioedema (primarily in my hands and feet where circulation is poor compared to the rest of my body). My Doctor prescribed me Zyrtec when I was first diagnosed and has suggested I carry a jacket with me. Fortunately I live in Florida where it's rarely cold, but there are occasions where the AC is too low or in the winter months we sometimes get cold days/weeks/months and I break out. I've also started to notice that if my blood pressure is too high or lower than normal I'm more prone to a more severe reaction when exposed to the cold.

  • @ginak5802
    @ginak5802 2 года назад +1

    Idk if you've done it before on this channel and I missed it, but I would love a breakdown of Raynaud's syndrome. It's a weird genetic thing that makes your hands, feet, nose, ears and other organs lose blood flow due to cold. I have it and live in Michigan so it sucks. Basically, when it's cold blood vessels shrink a ton ( I know there's a word for this but I can't remember) but they shrink too much and blood flow is lost almost immediately. The only ways I've gotten around it is wearing gloves that are already warm, using hand warmers, or running my hands under lukewarm to hot water.
    It's also quite painful. For example, if I reach into the freezer for 20 seconds my hands become so cold and bringing warmth back is painful

    This is proof that I had an allergy to my period when I was younger. Every month when I would exercise or eat chicken or turkey at the beginning of my cycle, I would have these types of reactions. It was awful. I remember once I had an orchestra concert right around Thanksgiving and I was on my period. I ate a little bit of turkey, and proceeded to get ready to go do my solo performance. When I got to school, I started having very itchy skin, mostly on my hands and feet. I then got very nauseated and threw up violently and I started having trouble breathing. They called an ambulance and I was taken to the ER. They always called it an unknown allergic reaction. I know now that I had a serious allergy to my period, poultry, and some exercise. I wish a doctor would have studied me back then. I had a hysterectomy 14 years ago, and since then, I’ve never dealt with this again.

      Personally I do have bad time with heat but different symptoms. No full body hives, its only base of neck I get hiveswhen over heated.Oddly when I would shave my hair line at the base it helped. Also would get migraines. The worse part of being overheated, it can trigger asthma-like symptoms. The shortness of breath bad enough to need an inhaler or even emergency treatment. The doctor never said its an allergy to heat, he told me its called bronchio-spasms and being overheated triggers it.

      That literally couldn't be further from the truth. Allergies are caused by genetic coding issues that can be caused by environmental factors, medications, exposure to toxic chemicals from cigarettes, a communication error internally where an enzyme or protein is either absent or deformed rendering the body incapable of breaking down molecular substances (for example in foods or vitamins/minerals ingested or applied topically). Your comment is ignorance and you look uneducated as a result.

For example, I have dermatographia, my brother has psoriasis and my sister is allergic to the sun, among other things. We can have reactions to abrasive materials, washing detergent, certain soaps, make-up, grass, pressure, markers, paint, plasters... I might've actually enjoyed physical activity when I was younger and gotten into better habits than I have now. :-/
