Most of the side characters are supposed to appear in the 2nd half of season 1 of the manhwa so it seems that they're not that relevant yet or what you said "boring" in the anime, which many of the readers stated about the manhwa. (This is NOT a spoiler, I swear) Many readers stated that Solo Leveling (manhwa) is just focusing on Jinwoo's journey, the mystery behind the system and dungeons, and the fight scenes and there is no development with the side characters. The side characters will only appear when Jinwoo gets in their way, which I can agree with because many of the side characters got hyped, but didn't get the chance to show much of their power and skills so I am very glad that the anime already showed some of them from the beginning to give more screentime and more set-up on what's about to come. The manhwa left out many details from the light novel version of Solo Leveling (it was a light novel first before it got adapted to manhwa) so the anime is adapting the light novel and using the manhwa art as kind of a guide for the design in the anime. I read somewhere (don't quote me on this) that Chugong (the author) has to make the story focused on Jinwoo for the manhwa adaptation because Dubu (the manhwa illustrator/artist) is already sick so they have to finish the manhwa quickly. Dubu passed away months(?) after Solo Leveling manhwa is finished. RIP, the GOAT. 🙏
As far as I know the second cour of this season is scheduled to air later this year, though it might be pushed back to winter 2025. Either way, we won't have to wait too long for it.
Shadow Monarch is a upgrade from Necromancer. He leveled up his class because of all those bonuses. The manga and light novel give an example like a warrior class upgrade to a berserker class

He didn't really beat Igris cleverly. He even said it was a fluke. Everything seems to be a luck box for him. I hope we get to see more in the second half. And more creative deaths (not the eye death over and over) lol I like the show, but the comments kind of over overhyped "arise" for me. I was waiting on a grand moment and he says it nonchalantly. Lol Either way I'll continue to watch.
