The worst hell on earth had to be in the First World War, in a massive artillery bombardment. Either side of the front (no man's land) would line up over 2,000 field guns, 500 heavy guns and 200+ howitzers. Heavy guns back then would be 9.5 inch and 12 inch railway guns that could hurl a half ton shell at the enemy's trenches. Imagine being on the receiving end of thousands of artillery pieces of all sizes. Then add a thousand more 2 and 4 inch mortars raining down with all that. Absolute hell.
@@thomasbertelsen4486 No, he is right. There were men on the receiving end of these bombardments that were blown to a million pieces. The technology had surpassed the thinking of the generals of that time. They would wait til the guns fell silent and the inevitable infantry advancement came and then rush in their reserves to take the place in the meat grinder. They knew the men in certain areas would be totally blown away. It truly was an absolute horror. Living and sleeping in freezing, putrid water with huge rats feasting away on body parts.
My dad commanded a company or brigade or regiment or something of these in the Ohio National Guard in the 1960s. He loved them. One time they had a setup in the parking lot of a supermarket, probably a recruitment drive or something, and my dad let us climb all over them. A mall cop came and tried to make us leave but my dad told him they were his guns! and explained.
So could a 155mm towed. If I were in need on the receiving end, a 155 is accurate , has the range and faster rapidity. It can also be spun 180*.No disrespect , just facts.
A gift from turkey? Hmz? Turkey Dreamed about such ingenious weapon its An American owned artillery weapon made by Thomas Rodman. Turks never made such weapons they wish they could. Dream on! Turks maybe think its turkish hahahaha ! Turks could better make raki from Greece.

John Zowert pics or it didn't happen
@constricta57 idiot
They hid in dugouts. Many times such a bombardment would have little effect except to make the earth harder to traverse.
