Man Thanks for this pattern... I made one... posted it for sale... Got such a response That I started taking orders and in 24 hours I had 30 orders... Pulled the Ad so I could catch up! At $50 each I may have posted to cheap. Thanks again.
Great work. Great planter. Lovable planter. Just to add a fact, the function of this planter is not meant for draining water from the top box. You would need a protective plastic to help catch and avoid spillage. You do not want dirty water dripping on that beautiful base. I like your neat build.
Weird compliment, but thank you for listing the gauge and length of the brad nails used. Seems like a small thing but when I look over what sizes and how many I have it's nice to know at a glance if I need to go run and top-up on a certain length.
Thanks for this! My wife and kids keep getting flowers and seeds from various places. We end up having all these little small pots (like 4 and 8oz pots) everywhere. This will be a MUCH better way to organize these and they will look much nicer.
Plastic drinking straws also work great for cleaning up glue squeeze out in corners. When the end of the straw gets full of glue, just snip if off with scissors.
You should charge for the plans, they are really great. So I am going to pay you for them. You also have a typo on your shop page (bought not brought)! ;) great channel.
Nice job! Simple, effective You can't be a real RUclips "creator," you're not 100lbs overweight. Stay tight and keep up the nice work (from an old woodworker and broken down jock).
This build looks SO easy, and the finished product looks AMAZING! I will be trying this one as soon as I can carve out some time! Thanks for the plans! Oh, I’ll be watching the rest of your videos for sure!!!!
Nice planter! After downloading the plans & attempting to open them, I see your notations about the "Coming Soon." I'll probably just come up with dimensions. Thanx again so much!!
I love your videos. Literally watched them all over the week. I been wanting to get into wood working for a long time now. When I start building your design for my family and friends will give you all the credit and send them to your channel. Much love.
Big fan of your channel since discovering your workbench build. I feel like the laminated fence pickets for the bottom shelf are too noticable at the end grain though. Debating between adding bottom stretchers to cover those up or just using more cedar decking cut to 2x2 dimensions like you did for the legs. Guessing the latter would mean buying another board though.
Really glad to have found your channel on RUclips. I hope to use some of your ideas and plans to make a little extra cash this summer. I'll let you know. Also I'll be going through all your videos and hitting the like button. Although I haven't been able to watch them all yet, I hope it helps. Stay blessed young man.

This could easily be adapted to hold a grow light for starting seeds indoors and taken outside for hardening plants to plant outside after frost danger is past. Also would work great for an indoor herb garden for fresh herbs year round. I'm gonna need two or three of these. Curious why you didn't use half laps on the legs since the bottom shelf is half lap joints.
Cool build! Subscribed and thanks for the free plans! I'll definitely have a look at them and try some out for practice! I really need a miter table for my miter saw so that'll probably be the first thing I make out of your plans! I don't have a brad nailer yet, but it's on my list of things to get
Your very good, think you can best the "Modern Nightstand, By Shades of Blue Interiors"? It's done with only a single plywood sheet, I'd love to see your more talented take on the design. Maybe in 1/4",,,the economy is tight, lol ;)
Always enjoy your builds. What length roofing screws were used here? For a 5/4 board, do they sell 1-1/4 roofing screws? Or are these strictly decorative.
Hey love the channel/plans. Wondering what I'm missing on the plan where it says the vertical leg are "22 3/4" but page 5 end view shows the legs are 20" tall?
Awesome love it! I built a different style planter last year, I used spar urethane for outdoor furniture. My wife wants another one, I like this design except she wants the planter box portion painted turquoise... Not a problem but I think oil based spar urethane over the paint will dull/change the color, any suggestions for a protective coating over the paint? Also looking forward to seeing your new shop completed, lol I'm not a hater but definitely jealous 😂😂
If you use crystal clear water based poly it shouldn’t impact the color too much. I’m very much ready to get into the new shop but the Minnesota winter really slowed me down since I still have to finish putting in the insulation. I should be moving in this spring and finishing sealing it up this summer
How do you get 8 pieces from the stacked cedar that are 8 1/8 long when the total length is only 23 7/8? I can only get 6 with the last two being 7” long?
For the bottom shelf wont the paint on the ends of the support beams cause the glue to not bond the shelf as well to the legs? Wouldn't sanding the paint off of those locations allow for a stronger glue bond and a stronger shelf? Other than that this is a great build i cant wait to get out in the shop and give it a try.
When I painted the supports for the bottom I tried to not get too much paint on the ends, but you’re right that if you want max strength it would be best to either mask the joints off or sand them before gluing. Either way it’s still plenty strong as is
Screws will always be more durable. I just used Brad nails because it’s simple and fast. I think the Brad nails and glue will last for quite a few years
With cedar being soft and using cedar fencing, which is a thin piece of wood, you would run the risk of splitting the wood with screws. I would get thicker cedar planks (which is more expensive) if I was going to use screws.
What is Pressure treated Cedar tone wood? Is that something that can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes or is it just plain old pressure treated planks treated with cedar tone stain? I want to make some of these planters but I'm very confused about the "pressure treated cedar tone" wood.
It’s a board that is generally used for decking that can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I bought mine from Home Depot. It’s pressure treated so it can’t rot and the cedar tone means it’s artificially colored like cedar
Yeah it does. However if you want to make it as strong as possible you would want to mask the areas where it will be glued before painting. However, as is it is plenty strong enough
I stuck with Brad nails because I wanted to keep the build really simple for beginners to woodworking. I decided that dowels might be a bit to advanced for a first project
I agree, I'm not a beginner but this project and others like it helps everyone. A beginner has a step by step guide, someone experienced can adjust to their taste accordingly. It's getting harder to find woodworking channels that actually build things that normal people can build without thousands of dollars worth of festool and sawstop products. I applaud this guy and appreciate his work
