I can watch your videos all day. So skilled are you and so precise that every cut looks like beautiful artwork to me. If I was a young man again I would jump at the chance to apprentice under you. I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos.

After watching for weeks and my 9 year old son asking to be a carpenter, I bought the tools and some lumber to start our journey into carpentry. Thank you for the inspiration and the ideas from Indiana. 😌

So interesting to watch, his movements are all so deliberate. His "rough" framing is better than most finish carpenters here in the US. I learn something in every video and have implemented many of his methods in my carpentry.

I am curious if this is pretty standard for how homes are built in Japan? The attention to detail and quality craftmanship is incredible. You wouldn't see this standard American tract homes.

Is that a functional handrail or decorative? If someone lost their balance, could they safely grab the rail without damaging it?

I’ve wondered about that too. The finisher/painter will have to be very careful working around the finish carpentry. Beautiful work, Shoyan-san.

Great to see a master. So much detail. Who is the manufacturer of your larger adjustable square, and what is it called? Looks like a very useful tool. I’ve never seen anything like it out here in California.

I like the practicality of the Japanese method of using low horses and bodyweight to secure stock while cutting in mortises. Easier than setting up benches for site work.

It was very interesting listening to how the building styles have changed in Japan. I also like hearing about grandmothers sitting in the entrance for hours talking and greeting the guests in the old days. This was a very interesting detail to learn about. :)
