  • My hands always hurt when I work on insulation. I told a young carpenter that my fingerprints disappeared after insulation work. He advised me to use gloves.
    That makes sense.

    I'm amazed at the quality of framing lumber and how exact and neatly the cuts are made.

    The attention to detail continues even with the installation of the rigid foam insulation. I don't see too many that have the ship lap joint on the ends for a better continuous seal.

    To Shoyan; the Windows and Sliding Doors get heavier these days, since the people feel more need to be energy efficient. Theres a huge different in weight with Tripple Glassed Windows compared to Doubble Glassed, since one additional layer adds more weight, but in return gives better insulation for heat and noise. Good Job, as allways =)

    • @rsmith02
      @rsmith02 5 месяцев назад

      Japan doesn't have triple glazed windows (at least commonly). He might be comparing double to single or vinyl/wood to aluminum.

    @02:35, its interest that the door is installed on the outside of the framing. At least in the states, we have doorways in the same plane as the studs. Thus you an easily find a more secure part of a structure in an earthquake.
    Maybe I'm missing a detail, or that later on the framing will build out this one section (strengthening the doorway) (at least it looks like the doorway is offset from the rest of the framing by 9 to 10cm).

    • @maritessekine8414
      @maritessekine8414 2 года назад

      Could it be because here in Japan, the front door is lower than the floor? The door opens outwards, the foyer is similar to a mud room where we leave our shoes to enter the house.

    • @dragade101
      @dragade101 2 года назад +1

      @@maritessekine8414 Its structurally weaker this way. There is probably plenty of framing that you dont need this door at all

    Meanwhile in America, I had to cut a piece of drywall out of my kitchen for replacement and the construction worker left a box of nails and an empty monster energy can in the cavity.

    Is the expanded styrofoam meant to meet a structural requirement or could you use green compostable insulation like wool (or any other natural material)?

    • @digitalparadigms
      @digitalparadigms Год назад +1

      Natural materials or based materials are more traditional. I'd say the number one product would be Rockwood in Japan. At least it used to be if I'm not mistaken.

    Styrofoam insulation? I think that would be against code in the US because of flamability and toxicity if there's a fire.

    Why not install the insulation higher on the floor instead of using the foam insulation that has cero insulating properties?

  • @coolcat1813
    @coolcat1813 Год назад

    there are far superior insulation materials than styrofoam. Wonder why they do not use glass wool etc. winters in Japan are cold while LNG and electricity are expansive.

  • @bobootn

    i like the video's and wood work. But this insulation is a joke. Why even bother putting it there. It's the least insulating kind of insulation. Why not fill it up completely with Rockwool And install a fluctuating vapor barrier?

    • @jamespyacek2691

      I'll have to look up "Rockwool". We use fiberglass here in the States.
