    Nice list but very Americanised one ..For the record , In Egypt in 1928 Rose " Fatema " Al-Yusuf established one of the most influential political/Cultural magazines in the Middle East , that became later one of the biggest houses and school for free journalism in Egypt and the Arab world ...

    My favourite women firsts include:
    - Kathryn Bigelow (first woman to win Best Director at the Oscars)
    - Hattie McDaniel (first black actor, regardless of gender, to win an Oscar)
    - Sherry Lansing (first woman to be president of a major film company)
    - Manon Rheaume (first woman to play in the NHL -- albeit in preseason)
    - Nancy Christy (first woman to win $1,000,000 on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?")
    - Junko Tabei (first woman to climb Mount Everest)
    - Anne Bradstreet (first female poet ever published in England)
    - Nicole Kupaks (first woman to be the general manager of a pro hockey team)
    - Charlotte Cooper (first female Olympic gold medallist)
    - Arabella Mansfield (first woman to become a lawyer in the United States)
    - Juliana Morell (first woman in the world to earn a university degree)
    - Lucy Sessions (first black woman to receive a college degree in the United States)
    - Sarah Jane Woodson (first black woman to serve as a college professor)
    - Candice Bergen (first woman to host "Saturday Night Live")
    - Madam C.J. Walker (first female self-made millionaire)

      Other than that good idea, I would add Eva Peron/Evita as well

      Preach, NZ1967. I would also take Oprah out of the list. She's done great things, it's true. But when I think of admired women in history, celebrities are not on the list.

    "Táhirih" (Persian: The Pure One) & "Qurratu l-Ayn" (Solace of the Eyes), ie. Fatimah Baraghani, was a courageous, fiery Persian poetess of noble birth regarded by the Baha'i Faith as among the first woman suffrage martyrs, Put to death by strangulation, 1852, she said, "You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women." She wore her wedding dress to her martyrdom and called it her "wedding day."

    Well, how about the first woman to ACTUALLY SUCCEED in flying around the world solo? Jerrie Mock, 1964. Sure, I know there were a lot of things going on in '64 that peoples' attention went to, but still she succeeded where others (including tragically, Amelia Earhart) failed.

    • @theodorerelic2718
      @theodorerelic2718 7 лет назад +3

      Yes, that is true. But many of those conditions still existed in 1964, and since this is a list of Firsts for Women, I thought that the inclusion of Jerrie Mock was applicable.

      Off the top of my head:
      Intensive primate studies - Dian Fossy, Jane Goodall. Who was the first man?
      Music - The queen of the night. Who was the first man to sing that sublime piece of soprano music.
      Looks - Helen of Troy. Who was the first man to cause a war because of his physical attributes?
      Politics and power - Cleopatra, Elizabeth I. Who was the first man to be able to rule and keep power in the way they did.
      Fashion - Coco Chanel. Who was the first man to become a famous fashion designer.
      Science - Marie Curie. Who was the first man to win two nobel prizes in different categories, as a matter of fact I think no man has ever done that.
      So yes, I really want to see "Top 10 Firsts For Men in History"

    I appreciated this video because it highlighted strong woman who changed history and at times are underrated. For example I didn't know who was the first woman to win a noble prize and all the achievements Marie Curie made in science. This only made me want to learn more. However they didn't even bring up Catherine the Great who was the first Russian female ruler or Coco Chanel who was the first the create trousers for woman and revolutionized fashion. There are many great women who were not even included that weren't "firsts" such as Joan of Arc, Frida Kahlo, Virginia Woolf, etc. Maybe Mojo should make a part 2 video or/and another video that just focuses on great women in history.

    Very good list of women who are inspiring indeed. Now, this program is very US centered as so many US made productions. Only a few mentions from other countries. Indeed, the US medias and journalists should embrace and defend the planet a little more. It sounds so arrogant to make it look that only Americans did things. Why not speak about the first woman veterinary in France who saved the wolfes from being totally killed.

    • @sassytommo
      @sassytommo 7 лет назад +6

      Women achieving these things is significant because most of them lived in a time where women were restricted and very limited in what was considered appropriate for them to do (women were denied education, the right to own property until the late 19th century etc etc). That is why women were nearly absent in fields such as science, medicine, literature, sport, education, film etc. So rebelling against those notions of what a woman can or cannot do and going on to achieve these incredible feats is what makes them so important. Hope this makes sense :)

      You just can't let women have their moment huh? The women that are listed in the video are far greater than you Mr. MGTOW.

    Great! From "36 Questions Women Have For Men" to "Top 10 Firsts For Women In History". When the feminism is EVERYWHERE on RUclips.

      it is not about feminism, it's about equality,in everything ( race ,gender ,religion... ) there is no feminism, there are normal peapol and there are sexists. that's all.

      +Melissa Sidiali I was trying to say that they're so much feminism on RUclips. Nobody rules the world. There's gonna be a equality at everything. So I'm gonna agree with your opinion.

      "36 Questions Women Have For Men" is a horrible divisive video, but this one has nothing to do with feminism. This one is a very nice video.

    The only thing that detracts from this video of great women is the inclusion of Hillary Clinton in the beginning. the only thing she is great at is being a liar.

    In a way it`s a shame that you did not wait with this list. I mean if Hillary is gonna win in november she will be the first female president of the US. Almost - if not bigger - as big as when Obama won in 08. Of course you can argue that she is horrible and whatever, but it would not take away how amazing it would be for women all over the world

    • @corsariocapitao
      @corsariocapitao 7 лет назад +1

      We all hope she doesn't win. And even if she does, we already covered "first elected female president," so adding the first female president in the USA would be a little undistinguished.

    I can imagine all the neckbeard basement-dwelling "meninists" that would be complaining if this was put on WatchMojo's main challenge. *shudders*
