May I share this video with the channel “ Fourth Over”? He just put together a beautiful 2022 W990 with a 1990 Peerless Long Log trailer. He went with Cummins X15 565, 18 speed. This video may help him.
You mention adding Western Star hood straps to fix the hood flopping. Do you have any info or part numbers? Did they replace the existing KW straps or did you modify and add them in addition to the factory straps?
Just added the extra straps. The strap bolted on to the piller below the mirror bracket. And the plastic buckle bolted to the hood. Walk into any star dealer and tell them you need a hood strap kit and they'll know what you need
Steerable lift axle work beautifully if the pressure is set right on the resistance to steer. 34 to 38 psi in the airbags and it steers real nice. Works on equal air off the leveling valve on the 2nd axle from the rear. So I load to say 70psi with the lift up, put the lift down and all 4 axles get about 60psi pressure on the gauge. Rides nice
Kicks out on the high side on the newer trucks. But on the old star, if the hill was super gnarly I'd run crazy fast to make some hills if the line was straight up. Best bet,,, if you can lock it up n idle up at low rpm, do it. Speed and jumping gears breaks stuff. Just go hard if there's no other way.
I'm glad you haven't had any major issues.
The good news is the complaints you have probably wouldn't effect me. All high way or in town.

Does it have loud jake brake sound like w900 or 389??
No, its emissions compliant, so its very quiet, thank God. I hate loud trucks. My hearing is going from 25 years of truck noise
How does the steering lift work as opposed to the straight lift? Does it pull you off track sometimes?
