A lot of people misunderstood the meaning of what Claudia wanted to say here. She made a lot of Asian dishes in previous competitions and she really didn't went around the world. The manner of how he said that made people think he was being racist or something. He was just heavily misunderstood.
@@bookfandom5333 Unlike cuisine from western countries, Asian cuisine varies differently. Hell, Indian cuisine from south to north vastly differs in both technique and flavors. Asia is bigger than Europe, Australia and North America together. It has more cultures than those other places. If he said that at the middle or end of the season I would understand, but at the beggining? It was literally 3 diferent countries only. If someone cooked italian, french and American I bet money they would not say this.
if you've had squid you'll know it has a frozen fish kinda fishy flavor. that's unpleasant. fresh fish fillet smells "fishy" too but not in an unpleasant way. the texture is softer and more juicy
1:26 Why do the editors have to do that? Also I will never get their criticism about Tamara, she was doing Asian but no one country's cuisine was the same so I have no idea what their big problem was.
Tammara kept doing Asian cuisine in the cook off which is something she is confident in but Claudio wanted her to make something different, something that Tammara will never make. Claudio wanted her to expand her cooking skills and learn something new and not stay in her safe zone.
Exactly. Indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese has vastly different signature ingredients and flavor profile despite being in the same continent 😢 Would you say french and italian dishes are the same just because they're both located in europe?
Food should never be thrown . Once u achieve great success be humble and not arrogant . Be grounded as it's the essence of a good human being which is necessary than being a good chef. Period !!
I’m used to seeing the judges being nice and constructive in the other videos. I’m genuinely shocked at their behavior and comments in this video. Usually they are praised for being the epitome of respect and calmness and helpfulness. Yikes this video left a bad taste in my mouth. Feels like were trying too hard to seem tough and judgy, didn’t like it.
This looks like it's from the first season, when they were trying to imitate the drama/harsh critiques from MasterChef US. Thankfully they mellowed out in the later seasons, focusing more on thoughtful critiques.
Yeah, they tried to make Alvin as Gordon, Claudio as Joe and Michael as Graham. But, the real difference is Michael is still nice and still strict and comfort the contestants if they make mistake while Graham just give them a nice criticism while Alvin and Claudio tried too hard to imitate Gordon and Joe respectively.
I can't take him seriously with the speech impediment he has and the ridiculous shape his face is. When he's seemingly using every muscle in his head at full capacity to chew tiny bites of food or even just showing off his RBF, he just looks so goofy.

when I think about going out for Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, japanese and Indian food I think of very unique and distinguished flavors and spices that set all of them apart from each other. Chinese and Indian food have hour long prepped sauces and complex spice blends, where Thai and Vietnamese have many fresh and cold ingredients with a seafood twist. I understand what he's trying to say is you need to diversify your cooking styles in order to be considered Masterchef, but to downplay the diversity in different asian cuisines, and local ingredients to those cultures is unfair.
With in India we don't eat the same thing. South is more in to rice and North use Wheat. Every state have different styles. When the foreigners says Indian food, they are talking about North Indian food.

very odd that the one judge gave her critiques for “only doing asian dishes” so far as if Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indian food aren’t completely different culturally.
Its still just asian food she chooses to make. Why doesnt she make an african dish or is she only skilled in one area? Not good for a chef. Thats the point.

bruh he said very spicy not just spicy but very spicy i mean do all of us have the same spice tolerance? surely not and that is masterchef so if you like VERY spicy food don't assume that others like it
Food can be too spicy sometimes where you cannot taste anything but that, I think that was what he meant. Most would not enjoy food where you cannot even taste the other flavours of the dish. It was just too overpowering. If you watched the full length of the video you would see she blended a lot of scotch bonnet peppers to add to her dish. That's one of the hottest peppers most wouldnt be able to eat that. I love spicy food and i wouldnt be able to eat that
0:28 till this day, I still get annoyed with his remark in labeling Indian, Chinese & Vietnamese Asian. It's like labeling North American, Mexican & Caribbean food under the umbrella of American. It is a huge generalization and it shows the lack of knowledge and appreciation for the cuisine by the judges.
@@backupaccount8731 can’t blame the person for taking it personally (if they did). their culture is being generalized and disrespected by someone who is supposed to recognize diversity in food.
Why are these judges here? If you are saying indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese food are just "Asian" as a chef when the foods are clearly distinct from each other he should be a contestant, not a judge.
I know that but that's not what he meant, when he said "you keep pulling the asian card" he meant that from every challenge she did most of her dishes theme/method of cooking is asian based stuff he wanted her to make something that doesn't have anything to do with Asian related method. Don't know what so racist about his sentence just watch every single challenge she been through and you'll understand.
it's not racist it's eurocentric. if you know how to cook italian, french, spanish and greek food you'll be praised. if you know how to cook chinese, thai, and vietnamese food they'll say you need to learn more.
This jury is an absolut disgrace. This behavior is ridiculous. I'm French and even in France, chefs are more polite and professional. Shame shame shame.
The judges' attitudes in season 1 were so forced - it felt like Michael was trying to be Graham, Alvin was trying to be Gordon and Claudio was trying to be Joe. Thank god they changed from here onwards
The chef who doesn't know how different Indian & Vietnamese food is , needs to be fired. By that logic , I could club French & Italian under European food.
What's wrong with spicy food? I'm an Indian from Malaysia and we always eat spicy food. And most of the South East Asia dish are based on spicyness. This Chinese chef guy literally an Asian but acting like a freaking westerner. You should be proud when she did something outside of her box. I believe this guy never been to South Asian countries. I hope he tries Maggi pedas gila or Samyang Noodles. Would have been admitted in hospital.

Contestant: I cooked some Italian food Chef: European Contestant: today i cooked French food Chef: European Contestant: Well today i cooked some Spanish food Chef: European
Reducing all those regionally distinct cuisines into 'Asian' is unapologetically moronic. You could do the same thing with French and Italian as "European" but this guy is likely too dense to appreciate that.
The judge wouldn't have said that about someone cooking foods from European countries. If a contestant had only done French, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Norwegian food, he wouldn't have said anything about it.
Imagine they made a Goulash, a Bœuf bourguignon, and a Spezzatino back to back. Then the judges commend "It's all European beef stews, maybe skip European next time" lol
*If someone was constantly cooking European dishes, it doesn't matter if they are all very different styles. It is still an issue. Cook from all continents or territories.*
As a big Asian food lover from Europe, I can safely say that Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese foods are super unique and different! Sure, they all have meats, fish, rice and veggies, but don't most countries anyway? All three use different spices and pair their ingredients in different ways.
