I can attest to the benefit of pressing then grading your comics. I have a Hulk #181 that I was going to sell raw as a 9.0. Then after seeing videos on why you should press and clean books, I decided to send my first CGC submission ... I was blown away when it came back a 9.6 !
Great video! When I got back into this hobby last year, I taught myself how to clean & press my books before I send them to CGC. RUclips university, as it were. I paid $350 for the press, & it really has saved me a lot of time & money, & the grades I've been getting for books I bought 20-30 years ago have been incredible! You've got to clean & press your books before you send them to CGC!! Do it yourself or find someone like ERod to do it for you. The grade bumps you end up getting are worth it in the long run, & the proof is right here in this video. Nice one, Gary!!!
Honestly: I do not know why more of these types of videos are not created regularly. This is -- exactly -- the type of things everyone out there is interested in. It is literally the most important type of information/actual real life type of detail that collectors/investors, etc like to see. It is no surprise at all to see the changes in the grading results once re-submitted after a clean and press. Real nice work here!
Hello mate, long time no comment, but the last couple of weeks as a amateur clean and presser, I felt like I was wasting my time and not getting the results or confidence to send in my books to be graded. I felt like to be sure of the best out come, I probably should have a pro do the cleaning and so on, now after your sooooo valuable video, I will try again and deal with it as it comes. One more thing, I really appreciate your videos, especially the before and after, the grade bumps and most of all, the values / prices of average sales, I wish more U tubers would add this feature to their shows of unboxing. It is the difference between watching someone else's fortunes and your shows make us feel apart of the entertainment and see some of our books value too.
So you sent them all in the first time knowing you would be cracking them open to resend them after a clean and press? Wow. Thank you for this expensive science experiment. People always talk about how cleaning and pressing helps - you just proved it. This video should be seen by every comic collector who sends their comics out to be graded.
Nice job Gary - It’s absolutely worth the effort to get your Comics cleaned and pressed -Matter to fact I have books at Erod as we speak, should be getting close to getting worked on - Keep doing what you’re doing -Keep it Comics
Another great video - always a blast to watch! Didn't have much luck with my re-submission. Had an Amazing 50 graded 5.5. Cracked, cleaned, pressed it and tried again. Originally the book was pretty dirty, had a light 5" fold (not a crease) from top to right side that didn't break color, and a few small dents & dings that all pressed out nicely. I was stoked figuring the worst I could get would be a 6.0! Probably 4 years later (surely I jest?), It comes back at....drum roll and fanfare please...5.5. In my case I guess it didn't make a difference. At least it wasn't lower! Guessing there were other problems I wasn't aware of. Submitted this the first time through a LCS, so I didn't see the original grading notes - good lesson learned there! Anywho, love your content & always look forward to your next one!
Thanks for a great before and after video. Your channel was the first comics related one that I subscribed to, followed by Erod and the Pressable Defects. Appreciate the education and enthusiasm you provide.
For someone who has not submitted books to CGC yet, thank you! Finally a video reflecting the changes of grades after cleaning and pressing! Thanks for your hard work!
Holy crap! What a difference!! Great video!! Here in The Netherlands I think it would be a bit expensive to do it, but as always I love your vids every time!
You should add velcro or magnet to your deep dive comic knife so u can keep it attached to your mic stand... im so excited for this video!!! Thank-you for doing this!
Great vid Gary. I had a handful of high grade books cleaned and pressed but haven't submitted them for grading cause the time to receive them back is just too long.
holy smoke what a difference in the grades . I've been doing a lot of research into pressing books, and yes I'm going for it ,.just doing research on which press to purchase .so Gary this video was soooooo informative one of the best you have done. Can we have a video at E.RODS, SHOWING US IS PROCESS, IN THE UK I DONT NOW ANY BODY THAT CLEANS AND PRESSES COMICS .SO IM TAKING THE JUMP .THANKS AGAIN GARY
Amazing Video. I dont use CGC anymore but this show you the importance of preserving your books in the best shape. If I decide to encapsulate any book is because I will keep it, this mean doing a nice clean and press.
Very well done Gary. Yes, just seconds for us but months to get the books back! Great information and food for thought. Now, I'm second guessing myself for submitting my Thor #183 double cover, without the C&P. It was good to see the before and after on this rather nice group of books. The C&P brought the books up by 2 grades and more. Good stuff. Best.
Congratulations on the new addition to your family. I'm a big believer in cleaning and pressing comics. I sent my first 10 book submission to CGC without any press or clean, and got 6 back at 9.8. Pretty much what I expected. I sent Erod a dozen nice books, 9.8 candidates with pressable defects IMO. See you at Terrificon!!!
I have some raw #1 copies (I think they're silver age or older) and I'm thinking of sending a few to get cleaned, pressed and graded before I put them up for sale...thanks for the the informative video Gary...stay safe and keep it comics!
Nice video Gary ..like to see this , especially to show the difference between pressing or not to press comics & the value in price difference . Always great to see what you’re doing .
Excellent Video!! Very informative! Loved the continuity of what the grades were initially and what they were after being cleaned and pressed to show how it can affect the prices. A few dollars here and there can add up when you submit a lot of comics over the years! GREAT VIDEO!!! LOVED IT!!! I was on the fence as to whether I should do it or not, mainly because most of my books have been kept bagged and boarded. But a 9.8 is better than a 9.6 or a 9.4. Keep it comics!
Wow definitely big difference between a not pressing and clean compared to doing a pressing and clean I need to find some who can do this for me when I can send it to CGC
This was a great idea for a video. Although I have never had any of the comic books in my collection cleaned and pressed or graded it was very informative for when I eventually decide to sell.

Great results! Pressing is not a magic wand, but if you know what you are doing, it can make all the difference.
A testament to Erod and his great work! If you're sending a book to CGC without cleaning and pressing, you're just leaving money on the table.

Haters gonna hate!!! This is great info and advice! Keep doing these and getting the word out! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I'd love to see a lot of 9.6s get pressed and see if you can get them to 9.8s.
Great video again Gary. My wife blames you for my crazy comic collection. All the best Sean, from scotland.
This is the type of content I like! Worth the effort. Good shit.
Congrats on the baby!
Thank you!
I love the longer videos!
Just sent a batch of books off for the works. Hoping for the best. Great video
This video could have been four hours long and I still would have watched it. I love your "full circle" process videos- keep up the good work!
Thanks for a great before and after video. Your channel was the first comics related one that I subscribed to, followed by Erod and the Pressable Defects. Appreciate the education and enthusiasm you provide.
This is probably my favorite video you have ever made. Great job E-Rod.
Great show, for sure cleaning and pressing does wonders!!
Now I understand why to clean and pressed. I really like this type of videos. Stay safe my friend and walk with goodness.
Great vid concept and some of my top picks for books , Gary bringing the goods again way to go G .

Eye opening video.
Great video its pays to clean and press 👍🏻🙌🏻
Great vid Gary, makes such a difference to the books with a clean & press, average 2 point grade bump is well worth it ❤️🙏
A box of beauties! 👍🏼
Fantastic video!! Very cool to see the grade bumps and how much more they are worth!!!! Asm 300 jump 200
Also - do you think they look at old grader notes if you use same label number- and if so could that negatively impact the grade.
Thank you for this awesome video Gary. I was excited for each grade bump you got. Keep the awesome content coming.
And early congrats on your new little one.
Nice bumps. Working on my very first clean/press and cgc submission. Looking to send like 5 of my books.
