India has smart engineers and scientists. Why not secretly reverse engineer it. I mean who knows? Maybe they are already doing it secretly, but it takes time
BMD's part-- Pad prithvi air defence and Aad-- advance/Ashvini air defence system Are the example that we can create Airdefense more then capable of S400. Search Swordfish radar system.
@@f9658 we are developing such systems, for example we have developed and deployed MRSAM with co- development of Israel of range of 150 km , AKASH NG (90 km ) and now we are developing XRSAM of range of 350 km
A few points - 1) This representation of drawing a circle of 400 km is not exactly right. You are not going to place entire unit of S400 at the same location. 2) Furthermore, Indian S400 won't operate in isolation. They will be part of the entire air defense system. 3) Detection range also depends on the size of the object. For smaller drones, the range will be lesser (around 200-250 km). 4) Introduction of S400 will somewhat take off pressure of reaching 42 squadrons magic number. The extra time could be well utilized to concentrate on desi jet programs (and perhaps buy 36 more Rafale).
Many customers of S300 and S400 have brought Pantsir or Tor short range systems to protect these systems from kamakazie uavs and terrain hugging cruise missiles. India should think about protecting these assets with close in defence and network these assets with rest of the radar network so that the radars can be kept off (protecting it from jamming) till the right momemt( till the target enters no escape range). No escape range is far lesser than the theoretical maximum range of the missile.
No need. India has lrsam, Akash and Spyder all integrated into one system. The Indian layered defence will be one of the best, if not the best in the world. AAD/PAD for pure BMD, then s400 with all it's missiles, then lrsam, then Akash, then Spyder. All protected by point defence fighters. Good luck to any air force trying to breach that.
We are also signatory to Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) which China cannot join because of us. So, our defence systems are continuously upgraded. Pakistan is going to be history in 5-6 years. so chill maro :)
I am sure that India is also developing such system at home. It would be much interesting if 'Simply Nitin' can do a presentation on such systems and on India's potential missile power be it the agni, bhramos or any thing else
In terms of range, we already had SwordFish radar during IAF/PAF shoot out as well, didn't we? SwordFish also has a detection range of 600km. Yeah we dont have any missile with engagement range of S400.
Most importantly, the system counter balances the shortages of fighter aircrafts which India has. The fighters now can be used for offensive roles and will be released from defensive role as S400 will give the cover.

We had major concern in the Punjab border where the supply of illegal drugs through drones could not be identified. Now we have the survellience system to keep them at check.
Is it possible to assess the requirements of such air defense systems to fully secure our air borders. How many such units are required. Is 5 battalion which India has bought from Russia sufficient or should we go for more such systems to further strengthen our air defense systems, especially in view of swarm attacks as happened in Isreal.
Only issue with any SAM batteries are Geography. That's the topography in our east & north produces lot of ground clutters which in turn Guiding the SAM seamlessly makes harder. To mitigate it we need AWACS to provide consistent jam proof guidance towards the target.
Incoming objects from Pakistan cannot be detected the moment they take off. There is something called line of sight that no radar can overcome. The Indian air force desperately needs some more AWACS to ensure that low flyers are detected early.
Thanks for the insight and significance of the new air defence system S-400. Please explain about the truth of the usage of Chinese parts in the S-400 and how the rumour that Chinese can counter the S-400 systems easily or significantly.
Thank you very much Nitin Ji for, as always, an excellent informative narration on the new acquisition of S-400s but the PLA has already got the very same S-400s from Russia. How much of an advantage is this S400 to India then, not withstanding that it would have been a great disadvantage without it. JAI HIND.
If we have data of when they take off then we should use ML to figure out their patterns of operations, it will prove to be seeing into future when there is conflict. But maybe this is already being carried out.
Both 40N6E and 48N6E missiles are SARH using PESA radars. In this day of age, I am not sure how that combination will be effective. Especially against countries with significant EW capabilities such as China.
Sir @3:05 you say, "Detect object taking-off at 600 kms range ...". Really? The S-400 radars are ground based. If they can detect objects taking off i.e. at ground level, why do we need AWACS?
We need AWACS Because they can move and provide the location of the moving aircraft to the fighter jets and may guide the air to air missile by data link connecting fighter jet to AWACS.
Nitin Sir simple and very informative about S400 it was awesome.. I had few questions 1. Why India cannot develop systems like S400 and others especially using TOT route. 2. Once these missiles are used can India produce them within India or we have to procure from Russia? Can you please talk about the same.
These systems are developed by nations who fought war outside of their border but india barely protect its own border so dont expect india producing such weapons because it requires change of mindset in political and military attitudes
Hi, could you please elaborate what is the position of our country for ammunition manufacturing? Are we still importing it in huge numbers, is there any private players or is it still our highly efficient OFB.
India must develop stronger long range radars and integrate and make synchronous its network with the s400 and put multiple more number of radars so that there is no hole through which the enemy may enter undetected .
Aftermath of balakot strikes , our Air defense establishment have learned lots of lessons and hope they have solved problems and Improve a lot , and will not repeat the mistake they did.

Can it be synchronised with over-all ecosystem for taking down adversarial projectiles through other other assets that IAF has? What is its level of integration with other SAM systems?
So many Engineers we graduate every year like Flies or Fleas !! But yet go searching for advanced weapons outside !! Am i the only one seeing the Irony here ??
Such high value SAMs will not be stationed close to the border, they may be good against aircraft and missiles but keeping them close to the enemy will make them vulnerable to artillery(tube and mlrs) and drone saturation. Also the small number of Spyder system is not sufficient for point defense of the S-400, we need to speed up the deployment of QRSAM with the help of Israel for this
