The Amazing Spider Market of Cambodia

This amazing spider market is around 90 minutes from the capital Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Locals started eating the spiders during the food shortages of the Khmer Rouge period from 1975 to 1979. Half-a-century later and deep-fried tarantulas are a now local delicacy in the Skuon region. Big black spiders are sprinkled with salt, sugar, chili or crushed garlic and sold in street-side stalls. One spider costs around $1. There are sometimes children who will pose for pictures with live their pet spiders.
