    Watching Americans on RUclips is making me more aware of how much they seem to drive around, somewhat aimlessly? Getting your driver's license in Sweden includes being educated on the natural impact, how you should only use your care if you absolutely need to, not just as an activity. I know there is a problem with American cities being largely inaccessible by bike or bus, but it still weirds me out, watching people drive such short distances, keeping their cars running, turning the car on and off multiple times in a shirt while which would make the catalysts filtering of the exhaust fumes largely ineffective! I don't know how the driving ed in America works, if there even is a mandatory "ecodriving" perspective like in Sweden, but it isn't a new concept that its bad to drive a car, right? And yes, the majority of co2 emissions are not coming from people driving their cars, and the real culprits are the bigger industries, but I still think that everyone should be conscious of their impact on the climate, and what they can do to lessen it.

    • @isabelleshirey3797
      @isabelleshirey3797 3 года назад +15

      Unfortunately in America most places don’t really educate people on the damage things can do to our ecosystem, so most people don’t know the extent of their harm.

      I lived in the US for six months. I am from Eastern Europe where petrol is double of what it costs in US and a lot of the eco driving perspectives you talk about are simply common sense tome because they're also money saving. Americans will tend to drive to a destination even if it's a 5 min walk away from them. To put things in perspective I rented a car the whole six months I was in the US and my weekly expenditures were lower than those of my car owning neighbour with a Corolla. Americans aren't very practical in general I noticed. I don't know where that comes from because most of them do struggle with money and have a lot of anxieties about unexpected expenses, especially medical ones.

    • @maryp.9057
      @maryp.9057 3 года назад +12

      the impact of driving on the environment unfortunately isn't a part of our driver's ed (from what I have heard) though I do feel the majority of my peers are aware of how awful driving is for the environment. It is a huge factor though that in perhaps 85-90% of America public transportation is inaccessible or non-existent. Many rural places and suburbs are also not built for walkability. While something may be a 5-10 minute walk away there's a huge possibility that that walk would involve walking on the side of the street due to there not being sidewalks, walking next to huge and very busy streets, or even that the walk isn't feasible b/c you can't cross a highway. I also know that efficiency is a huge thing here so if it takes 30 minutes to drive somewhere and an hour to take public transportation most people will chose to drive if they can. I've never been to Sweden so I'd love to know, is that a similar mentality or would Swedes tend to take the longer public transportation route? And is public transportation more efficient/faster than driving in Sweden?

    • @TheTandborsten
      @TheTandborsten 3 года назад +5

      @@maryp.9057 this was very interesting to hear! Like you said, it's great to get another perspective on things. Here in Sweden, a lot of households only own one car, even though this has changed a lot in the past decade, so it makes sense for one person to take public transport or ride a bike, if possible. Like a previous person commented is gas very expensive in comparisons to the US, our government taxes it to kind of motivate people to drive less, and to use the money to compensate for our carbon emissions. So a lot of family's try their best to not drive to keep the monthly costs down. For another thing, our city centers are really bot made for driving, most are zoned of so that only public transport is allowed, for noise and pollution control, and again to keep people from driving too much. So using public transport is in some cases easier than driving, finding parking etc. And parking in the(larger) cities is really expensive, so its more affordable to use busses, cabelcars etc. Public transport in the center of towns tends to ve really good, but of course the further out you get there is worse coverage, with transport not running very late, or not stopping by very often. But yeah, I'd say that most people use it, especially for shorter distances, but for really short distances we definitely walk, to save money, not have to worry about finding parking, it's just faster 😄

    dude let me tell you I skipped my proms and when I was 17 got a job where I worked at different event venues in my city every weekend, like weddings and parties, and spring is loaded with proms. so in the 5 years I've had this job I've been to countless proms and they are so overhyped. literally turn 21 and go to a club instead it's the same thing, all prom is, besides being teenagers spending egregious amounts of money they probably don't have, is just being in a dark room with uplights and a DJ and huddling on the dancefloor and occasionally getting a snack.

    Literally some girl in my Spanish class in senior year of high school was waiting for Ticketmaster to open an event for purchasing red hot chili peppers tickets. Like, she was desperately waiting on the countdown, laptop open in class, literally told my teacher she would not be participating in class so she can get these tickets. My teacher eventually realized and accepted that we would all be too distracted watching her try to succeed at getting the tix - she just put class on hold for the day so we could all watch it go down.
    It was a small class anyway and kind of an advanced one where you’re pretty much done with the curriculum by May, so it was more chill, but that still happened.
