    The Monorail used to seem further away from the park before DCA was built, I would stay at the Disneyland Hotel when the downtown station was part of the hotel grounds, you could also buy a ticket to ride around the loop, we did this with our kids the day before entering the park, they loved it so much.

    A small addendum: Ropeways like a gondola or chairlift system can’t turn BOTH left and right unless the gondolas are clamped on to a double-cable, which is a tricky system to install.

    Blue line is definitely the most plausible, going down Harbor exclusively. Having lived in Anaheim for four years, I considered Harbor part of the resort area and avoided it at all costs because of traffic. Makes sense to transport from the garage to the park that way.

    Another intelligent observation Brickey. The amount of park guests definitely calls for expansion and some sort of additional transportation. Keep making this type of content! I'm sure the team at Disney watches these videos as well for your solid ideas...just wish the People Mover would come back....

    I'm playing around with some route options & a couple of things I found out are that the tightest turn radius in the Disney Resort is 20 foot: the other is that the tallest track support is 35 feet.
    20 feet is a pretty sharp turn. As a comparison it's smaller than the intersection of Harbor & Katella.
    If I figure out an alternate path, I'll get back to ya Brickey.
    I love that you do these vlogs!!.

    They don't need a turnaround point. You can do like we do in Las Vegas. We have the old Mark III chassis out here...different bodies, but the same chassis. Two tracks with switches at the end of each line, which means the monorail runs forward one direction and in reverse in the other direction. So, you'd basically need a transportation center like in the middle of the Esplanade and feed both directions. Keep it as a separate line from the original track system. Florida has separate lines...so Anaheim could look at the same option. It does mean a separate service building for that fleet of monorail trains, but not impossible.

    I know I've been critical of some of the things that you have posted, but I just wanted to say I absolutely love this video series. My love for Disney theme parks makes me a little crazy sometimes. I had never thought about the fact that the monorail really can't make all these turns that it will be required to make if we are looking at it to connect all these different areas. Also, it's never a good idea to get into the comments section after you've had a couple beverages

    The real trick would be connecting the Anaheim theme park district with train station over at Angels' stadium. That would make it so people could come to the park without the cars or the need for parking.

    Consider in the plan the new transportation system also serves the Anaheim Convention Center which would have a design consideration where people with luggage etc would need to be accommodated and also provide transportation between current and future hotel resorts.

    I really like your analysis. However, I think I may have misunderstood something you said. The monorail tracks cross over each other three times. Two are inside Disneyland, and the other is right as you leave Disneyland station. I also agree with your conclusion that the chance of Disney extending the monorail track is not very probable, because of cost and security. I sure wish they'd put a station in DCA, but that hasn't happened either. Sigh.

    You gotta be a little more open minded bro. Don't think that the Monorail always needs that Tomorrowland stop, or to be in the physical park.
    One location heavily rumored for Pandora is the Motor Boat/Autopia/Subs land. If this is a real possibility, there is no reason NOT to believe that Disney can't remove the inner figure 8. Hell, remove it all. There's nothing to say they can't build a Parkside station right next to the costuming building in the hub. Have it then take off, down the old Carousel Inn pathway to the new garage. Then take off there down a path to 3rd park. Have it travel over to a station at the convention center. Travel across over to the SW side of DCA. Maybe a Pixar Place Hotel station, then attach onto current track near Lego. Keep it completely out of the parks so you don't have to limit it to those with park admission. Make it the true transportation option it should be.
    But Andrew, what about the roundhouse? Who says they can't build a new monorail barn at the new parking garage?
    It would be a complete overhaul of the current system, but it could be money well spent. Upgrade to new Mark VIII trains (I think that's the next ones to come). Expand the trains to higher capacity. Get ones with working AC so you're not closed for half the day. Not only would this be good for park goers, but the convention crowd. Having transport from the convention center to other areas of interest, keeps them "on property", possibly increases hotel bookings and give a real reason to charge what they currently do to stay at the hotels. It can also connect everything together for once.

    The multiple loops that exist inside of Disneyland will be removed to allow for expansion of Fantasyland (Motorboat Cruise space) and the realteration of Autopia.
    Thr demolition of the Carousel bldg and altered Autopia will allow more room for another attraction inside Tomorrowland.
    The Monorail would go across Harbor through the demolished hotel space to the new parking garage and make a right to go the Toy Story lot.
    A new station would be built on the East side of the Disneyland entrance.
    This would allow for 3 stations all outside of any of the parks, however it will serve all 4 parks.

    Another plus for monorail over Skyliner is if there is a breakdown, guests would not be stranded hanging in a little cage with no A/C for hours as happened at WDW. If a monorail breaks down, they can use that little monorail tractor to push it into the nearest station.

    Man I wish I was still in touch with one of the designers of Downtown Disney area and wonder what juicy information could be learned. Sigh.
    I think you are on to something. But I also think that Disney probably took advantage of the lockdowns to either buy or get access to stocks that control all the properties out to the 5 Freeway. And I would imagine that in the next 10-20 years we could see a third huge park to the east of the Disney parks along with large multi storied parking garages, integrated hotels and other tourist traps, restaurants, etc. It seems like a long way but Disney moves slow and purposeful on these expansions. We shall see. Great vid as always.

  • @RobRoyRoadie
    @RobRoyRoadie 11 месяцев назад

    Keep in mind, for many years, hotel guests could board the monorail at the hotel staying on for a round trip journey back to the hotel, without exiting inside the park. They just loaded those guests into either of the nose cones, but could easily leave a dedicated car(s) for guests traveling from a new parking lot station to a new station on or near the esplanade for DCA. I think the best option would be running the beam down the center of Harbor, but with both beams resting on single columns, versus spread apart down both sides of the road.
    I think the biggest issue is that the Mark VII monorails in use in Anaheim are smaller than their Mark V counterparts at WDW, and aren’t air conditioned.

  • @gridley
    @gridley 11 месяцев назад

    Ideas for the monorail, skyway, buses, etc, and parking lots like Toy Store really need properties such as GardenWalk & the Little Boy Blue Motel to be torn down. GardenWalk, which has been trying to glom onto customers from DL/DCA, is a cautionary tale to Disney that shopping centers much beyond the current DT Disney may struggle. So I'm not sure that creating another retail space in the Toy Story lot, unless it's super unique or lavishly themed (think: LA's The Grove but 20 times more elaborate), is the best idea.
    Maybe a smaller version of World Showcase, except free to the public, might lure people north of Katella to south of it. But even that probably would work better using the land under GardenWalk as the main entry point & a walkway over or tunnel under Katella to connect it with the current Toy Story lot. All the newer hotels built around the DL resort over the past 20 years (compared with motels from the 1950s-1970s) indicate the Disney Co doesn't own as much real estate in Anaheim as I thought they did. Although I have a vague sense of reading that they controlled the land under the Candy Cane Motel.

  • @KensanOni
    @KensanOni 11 месяцев назад

    I think you're missing the obvious choice, here.
    We don't end up enhancing the monorail track at the point where it going in and out of Tomorrowland. That way lies madness. What happens is that they create a new line that starts at the current (and for our purposes expanded) monorail station (Providing another entry point and exit point for the expanded features0, goes down Disney Way, along and across Katella, makes a stop at the Anaheim convention center (thus restoring a entry point for the Convention Center that has long disappeared), and then it follows that route along Convention Way to Toy Story Parking Lot, and whatever that becomes next.
    If I were to layout a Monorail extension, that's what I would do.

    Although I would love to see a monorail system ( loop ) around the resort district. It would be a logistic and financial hurdle.
    As an alternative, I could see an elevated rail system that would run above Harbor with a Southern Station at Convention Way (and an entrance to the new park ) and a Northern Station aligned with the east-west axis between Disneyland and DCA. This rail system may operate similar to Hogswart Express at Universal Studios Florida.

    The monorail switch beam can fly Over Harbor and into Clementine, and not impact on Harbor much. They might need a pylon in the middle of Harbor for earthquake safety mostly. gardenwalk not a problem down the middle, headed for the Strawberry fields and that parking lot. Curved beams will work, curved Switch beams also. 20:24

    The train is symmetrical which makes me wonder if it could simply run in reverse which would remove the need for 1/2 of that track and the turn around loop. At best you put a set of controls on the 'back' car and at worst you have to do a little redesign of the traction system or put a 2nd tractor at the back.

  • @theshow16

    It would be nice to have the attraction monorail stay in the parks and to have a separate transportation monorail loop so that "non ticketed" guests can ride. Maybe link parking garages, hotels and downtown Disney. Used more as transportation like at WDW. You get get off the transportation monorail at downtown and get on the attraction monorail and head into the park that way and non ticketed guests could go to hotels and downtown.

    I am so disappointed that they didn’t reroute around DCA when they had a chance, however I get why they did not. But I think your plan would be a logistics nightmare. Now it is possible to put one station in the esplanade and one at the eastern gateway parking and run two trains that go back and forth on two tracks. Much like the BART connector to the Oakland airport or even the DCA Redcar. In theory they could make it cable operated and pilotless. But at that point why not make it a Skyliner or even a Peoplemover? I would think that those options would be cheaper to operate in the space.

  • @shansangr
    @shansangr 11 месяцев назад

    Love this series. Maybe a new monorail line not connected to the inside of Disneyland is possible I think Disney World has separate lines. Love the idea of a people mover or skyliner too. I would prefer a new people mover inside the park and one outside. Maybe the monorail track that goes into Disneyland gets rid of the station inside Disneyland and only drives through the park, then they could add a new station outside Disneyland in the esplanade. I always wondered why the monorail did not have a station at the Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian. If they no longer stopped in the park they could add those too.

  • @anthonymaddox6515
    @anthonymaddox6515 6 месяцев назад

    Too expensive is right and there would be too little return on Disney's investment unless they charged for the monorail. Something they could do, which would not cost them much and would be a great convenience for Resort Guests would be to add a monorail stop on its current route at the Grand Californian Hotel. The monorail already goes through the hotel and a stop there would be great for hotel guests and people visiting DTD.
