I love the candor and knowledge of the narrator/owner. He comes off as competent and honest...something you look for in a good contractor.
Is it just me or does anyone else enjoy watching good honest folk working smart and hard at making stuff with their hands? At any rate great job Odell! I just may call you guys!

Damn right! Too many cowboys out there. What would be humourous would be the same video but with a voice over by a dishonest contractor for entertainment purposes (but could also help educate us on things to look out for).
And, you RE-purposed and adapted as you went?! Priceless, adapting as you go.. love this video for lots of reasons. Such great narration: concise and clear, and really RELEVANT information, again WHILE the work is happening. Your explanation of events are fabulous. You are a teacher, and we ...."gonna LEARN today!" Thank you!
Great I had no idea, I think I found my purpose
Help I'm doing 650 sf lowe half of house below window about 4 ft and
Love it when you can tell someone KNOWS what they are doing. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
made that house look 100 x better great job!!
You are truly an artist with your abilities.

I'm glad you can appreciate this.
it tells me you've done it.
remember I've been doing this for 30 years before internet, you tube , home depot, google, there's so much more.
,and another job well done..you guys really do nice work..we're always running around yelling at each other when doing concrete..you guys seem to really have your game together..love the videos please keep them coming, and thank you for posting.
TY
It's nice to see someone who knows what they're doing and they do it well!
TY
Your channel rocks. I’m doing a bunch of concrete work and I have learned so much from your videos. You are funny too. Great job!
Very impressive! It's funny how there is the 'best' in every industry. You want a guy like this to do your heart surgery, your accounting, your auto repair... one that is meticulous, knows what worked and didn't work from experience and does it the best way. The scary thing is that I know if I hired this guy it would be done right, but I don't know what I would get with a heart surgeon. All I'll know is that he went to school and got a medical degree... won't know if he is one of the worst around or the best.
So you drive by this house and think, "that looks nice" but you have no idea what went into it or that it will look just as good in five years unless you saw this video. Well done! And two great videos to watch from beginning to end. All I'm doing it making a retaining wall to keep my soil on my side of the fence, and got off on this great tangent. Thanks for taking the time to video this project... that too takes a lot of work, including the narration!
Andrew Valachei
good point.
wouldn't it be nice if everything was this straight forward.
Well Andrew Valachei, talk to his past patients... if there are none (living), he‘s probably not a good heart surgeon ^^
Wow, I'm so glad I found your channel. Such honesty and easy for a diy to understand. Hard to find these days. I appreciate the way you show everything you're doing and explain how and why. Many thanks from the Rockies in CO.

Looks good our concrete company is family owned operated as well. I would gladly have your boys on my crew you taught them well.
If you add a few cups of lime to your mix it makes it sticky no shims needed. Thanks for all the videos.
I'll try it
TY
Man, I love watching your videos, strange how a lot of stuff done in the US is done differently in the UK but your dedication and perfectionist attitude is great!
sharky marky
Things done differently is likely do to conditions, but the outcome can be the same.
That looks great. And doing the porch ties it all together nicely.
Nice! ...and thanks for speeding up the slow bits. ' Excellent teacher. Jim

Great work sir and thank you for the video I’m oooking to do the same to our house and used concrete backer board for the first 2.5 feet similar to how y’all did on that house. Wish I’d do solid concrete though. Thanks again!!

Get it on
Nice work Dave,
Ive found when working with panel stone its better to work from top most part of grade down to the bottom so your cuts arent as visible. I use ardex x77 which is a modified thinset mortar and put maybe 1/8"-3/16" of mud on the back of each stone. They stay right in place. Ardex makes alot of great products including this 8+9 material that works well to weather proof scratch coats and creates a very coarse bonding surface. Another advantage is your work is guaranteed and if the stone fails from water damage the company will reimburse the home owner for the project. I love ardex products, coming from using conproco type s and admix the coverage and strength of this new product is night and day. Enjoyed the video, keep them coming!
Mark Whitman
Thanks for the information.
I'll give it try.
I found with most coating products when push comes to shove on the warranty. These coating supply Companies want you to be a certified for there product. which means taking there class where every it may be held and paying the fees, plus you'll need to update your certificate every year $$$$$$
if this certificate isn't up to date the warranty is no good. Hopefully that Ardex dries instantly because if I start at the top I would have to hold stone there for along time otherwise the stone will fall to the bottom.
Odell Complete Concrete Actually its non sag when you install it. Ive started at the top of run and pressed and shaken the stones into place with +/- 1/16" movement. Its good stuff and cures quick.
Mark Whitman
wow I have to use that in the future.
The thinner layer of mud on the stone the closer you are to the substrate, less material less movement from sag, but the strength of this stuff allocates a demand for less material and in essence less waste.
Hey were all in it to have fun, learn more and make money for our families, good luck man, love the videos you guys do great work👍
Thank you for all of these videos.
YW
Great vid Mr. Odell. I want to try something similar in my back yard, but no corners... Straight. Looks like it’s a job for a crew however. Thanks for sharing.

You guys are artists!
TY
Kayinfso Here genius, GENIUS, these artists are!
That color stone is perfect for that house. Looks nice dude.
Talk him into doing the white part under the windows
Alright good idea
Nice job. Suggest dust masks when working. Funny to see someone sit on the wall during the vid. Stone dressed up the front nicely.
i will never understand how workers dont protect their ears, nose and eyes... ive been through all possible trades to reno/remodel my house, and on a lot of jobs i didnt have the right PPE, and i learnt from that... especially when i grinded concret, i had no idea. I can always excuse myself ''it was once in a lifetime''... or whatever stupid thing that makes me feel more comfortable. But... so many people all trades mixed will omit to take care of their own safety.
This video is good for my learning process
YW
Your videos are very informative. I'm glad that there's people like you trying to help do it yourselfers. There is such a sense of pride for individuals like myself that's able to satisfactorily completed projects that they have never worked with before. You have help me to impress my wives. Lol Thanks again.
PS
I want to create a step up patio. (One step) do you have any thoughts on how I should prep for my slab? Should It be below ground level, if so how many inches? Should I just simply place it above ground? How thick should my slab be?
Kewsi Mann
That's great

Your welcome
Mr Smith this is an awesome build. I'm late at subscribing to your channel so I'm doing some catching up. I have read 90% of the comments associated with the videos I've watched so I know your looking to get a more steady video. Especially time lapse. I have seizures and I have to look away as I watch when you do time lapse.
God Bless from Houston Texas sir.
Thanks for watching.
You know you can slow it down on your end through the You Tube App.
Beautiful work.
TY
Mr. Odell, I do so appreciate your videos. If I could afford you I’d have you build the walls and planters for me.
Sounds good
TY
I'm thinking for my house the outer forms will be stacked 2x4 wood with more character to make it more rustic and easier to remove. Or maybe that stone!
Looks fantastic

This looks amazing.. I have a couple raised beds in my back yard made out of wood but I think i'd like to make them out of concrete.
you'll only have to do it once in a lifetime unless you move
looking at your other videos I think you have a subscriber.. I have alot of projects in the works. I am also building a cabin on some property i own. Just puchased a concrete mixer.. It is ON! Thanks for all the informative videos! Cant wait to see whats next.

Get it on
It might be wise to add a waterproofing membrane on the back side (dirt side) of that concrete wall. It helps prevent the water traveling to the back of the stone, causing separation between the mortar and stone because of freeze-thaw cycles. Great work though, that's a good looking veneer job!
Aaron Harrison
no freezing here
Like Mike Haduck says what works in California doesn't work in Pennsylvania etc etc.
William Jackson
That's for sure
Awesome job you guys thank you
yw
great work
TY
Back butter thinly then add a V shaped band of thinset aroud the perimiter of stone. The stone will suction to the wall and hold itself in place without the need to shim it. You can work from the top down using this method.
sounds interesting
Great Job!
neckarsulme TY
Great vid great job. Tanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just a suggestion. If you level the soil and lay the boards that are 10 inches that you previusly used, they will give you a nice level surface to keep leevel the bottom of the stones, then you have not to use the stakes at the bottom.
Sounds good
David, I apologize for calling you Jim,I was texting my buddy Jim about fishing at same time LOL.
Sure no problem
When I was doing concrete we use diesel to spray our form boards with
That's works
Smart on the ripping and get stakes & 2 x 10 from it!
TY
Since I've started watching O'Dell I've stopped using lumber. Wood is easy, but replacing it every 5 years isn't sustainable. Thanks man!
Great point!
like this video a lot
TY
This is awesome and I plan to do this at my house! We also want to put stone veneer on our house and I've noticed that in some of the videos I've watched, sometimes they use some kind of metal mesh before applying the stone. What is that mesh and why don't you use that on the planter? What circumstances would you use that? Since it isn't in EVERY stone-on-house video, I've wondered if it depends on climate, state building codes, or maybe it's the weight of the stone?
Laurie Clarkson the mesh you are talking about is called metal lath. The lath is used when you are applying stone to wood surfaces, i.e. wood pillars at the front of a house, or the face walls of a garage that just have OSB on them. Before the lath is stapled or screwed on, you have to apply some kind of water barrier to protect the wood. In most applications 30-60 minute roofing paper works great.
Kerry Smith
sounds good
Thank you for clearing that up for me!
Have you ever had experience doing stamped concrete on vertical surfaces... like a brick wall or external walls of a house? I bet the 'Belgian slate' stamp would look great on the outside of a house.
Yes I have. BBQ islands planter walls .
Fire pits
@@OdellCompleteConcrete Do you have a video of vertical stamping? I'd love to see it!
I like the way it is explained and the techniques applied. I would recommend to use a waterproof to protect the concrete from corrosion. Laticrete sells one really good called Hydroban. Keep up with the good work!
Yes that's a good idea
At 2.10 , pipe wrenches , I didn't understand what happened. Do you use acrylic concrete bonder in mortar ? And I put a strip of drip edge all along the bottom of the stone. Coffee is wearing off, gotta go . You guys have the best videos out There !!!
TY
Not sure
Very good video. You explained step by step. Question, I have a few of sprinkler in my backyard and the water hit a concrete planter and the color of the concrete is gone. I would like to put something to protect the concrete and look nice. What can I put to solve that problem? I know the stones will be looking great, but is expensive
Paint it or stucco
beautiful🤞
Thank you! Cheers!
You are the man! I want to work for you
OK
TY
Top job thanks
TY
Great job! Thank you!
Just asking, cause everything I know says concrete doesn’t stick to paint 🤭
Otherwise I appreciate the honest and easy video, straight forward 👍
I hear that.

Hi I heard using mortar type S instead of modified thin set. I still not sure which is better for the cold weather here below 0 degree. I was told using Mortar Type S. By others. But personally I THINK modified thin set is BETTER, what do you think.
Nice job

Nice project, I have a cinderblock chute on the exterior of my home. Still trying to figure out what to cover with it
Good luck
To remove the forms easier.. spray them with used motor oil.. prior to the pour.
It’ll cut the time and eliminate the need for a circular saw
Awesome
Will this technique work on the exterior of a concrete block building or do I need to attach a mesh first? Thanks!
Will work fine , no mesh
Thank you!
They say it’s better to butter the surface you’re fixing the stone veneer to as well as the stone itself before applying. Less chance of rain getting in behind and popping the stone off this way.
yes in a freezing climate
beautiful
