    Don't champion the Longrow NAS too much...the bots/flippers et al will come out in full force haha. But in all seriousness cheers for the vertical tasting. I will completely agree with you with the Longrow Red - very elegant and very different to all the other releases I have managed to taste. Cheers for the quality content!

      Hi. Tom. Thanks for your comments. I don't think the flippers are interested in the NAS Longrow, so it'll be safe for now!

    The value of your pallette is tremendous in these episodes. Any bad PR from your word shrinks compared to a distilleries reputation.
    If on the other other hand the distillery has no significant reputation then all we have to go on is reviews and marketing fluff. Keep up the good work.
    Here in New York I found a shop with half a case of 2015 LR 18s. Very happy with it.

      @@marclambert8596 I live 60 miles north of NYC, up the Hudson. I found good whisky in FortLee. I also hunt along rt 84, by me in Newburgh is a store with a great selection and the only reason I go elsewhere is because I can. So I go east to Connecticut where there are 2 decent stops you can try on the way to the store by the Danbury airport.
      I've been as far east as Port Chester, where there's a very decent shop on the NE side of town. And west into NJ where I once found a bottle of Springbank Local Barley.
      I'm just amazed that the other shops show their disinterest in whisky by carrying the same nonsense Glenlivet and macallan and nothing more.

      @@jackthepickledhound I used to work in Teaneck so spent lots of time commuting thru Ft Lee - great Korean restaurants there! I’m planning to make a trip back over the GWB so wld b interested in knowing more about those shops - assuming the taxes r still lower! I’ll proly also make it up to Woodstock at some point if u want to share a few drams, but I’ve found some great stores in NYC area if ur interested or plan to come down south.

    A follow up comment. Managed to get a bottle of the NAS Longrow dated 11.01.21 and it is fantastic. Pretty much just what you described. In comparison I got a newer bottling of the Kilkerran 12 dated 21.01.21 and I am somewhat disappointed. The peat and Campbeltown soot which I got on earlier batches is pretty much non-existent. It's still a good dram but not as good as I remember. I would take this newer batch of Longrow NAS over the Kilkerran any day of the week. Subjective of course...

    • @TheGoodDramShow
      @TheGoodDramShow  3 года назад

      Thanks Tom. Some distilleries are more prone to batch variations than others I suppose. To be fair Kilkerran is only lightly peated and peating levels during malting can vary at times.

    Thanks for this review - i am a long term fan of Longrow - especially since my visit there in the summer of 2019, so very happy to see a review dedicated only to their
    bottle-ings! The 18, and a few of the Reds have been my go-to picks. I was particularly interested to hear your review of the 2020 21 yo. having heard your less positive view of the 2019 - though the price out where I am is pretty high! Will look for the latest 18 yo and the NAS I think. Always enjoy your reviews - and appreciate your respectful directness (thinking particularly of your Kilkerran 8 yo Oloroso) ! Thanks from San Francisco!

    I forgot to comment on this video, Chris....first I'm sorry you had some trouble about some of your reviews. I've never seen something unfair on them on my side, but just honest opinion, and some diplomacy of course & it is indeed as you said "a tight rope". I applaude you for the praise of the Longrow nas, I'm often quoting it as a more than decent alternative to Islay peated whiskies...and also value wise, it is a killer...I also usually prefer my Longrow & Hazelburn in ex-Bourbon casks, with few exceptions.... About the Longrow 18 yo I have tried face 2 face a batch from 2008 (the first one I'm so happy to have !) & one from 2011 & I have to say i struggled with the latter...Lots of briny, seaweed notes & even metallic (oysters ? I don't like oysters) that for me kinda ruined the balance, while the first one is pure malted barley galore. I guess you have tried it...? (me I haven't tried the 21 yo & those last 2 of your set). Slainte & you have my plain support ! 💪

      @@TheGoodDramShow Thx chris. Been binging ur vids since I posted this! Especially enjoying your multi-dram comparisons and distillery overviews enough to share with other Scotch geeks and reviewers.
      Any insights about this purple label Longrow 18 “Heavily Peated”? Is it the same juice as the more common white label 18 that just says “Peated” but just using different packaging for the U.S.?

    Great review Chris. I know that you care about the consequences of your words and reviews and I believe you are very diplomatic when it comes to some poorer bottlings. (I do enjoy a good rant from time to time though.) I am quite outspoken in the whisky chat but I consider carefully what I say.
    Yep, Longrow NAS is the least appreciated of the range because of the no age statement and youthful notes but I like that. People jumping down a barrel of a gun to get the latest Kilkerran Heavily Peated and this is available. I feel that all the distillery Longrow is experimental with this and that but this expression is the template. I like the rest but the hype is ridiculous. Good dramming my friend. WT

    Do you think SpringBank should increase production so we don't have so many buyers who just hold the bottle and want to sell the stuff at a later date? Around here anytime Springbank comes in it gets sold out very quickly. It is getting hard to find.

    • @hukerjohn

      This would require a time machine. But if you did have a time machine, I would also advocate suggesting that they make more of the tasty stuff.

      Their stills can produce up to 750,000 litres per year if allowed to run 24/7 but their floor maltings can only produce 100,000 litres of spirit per year. Seems they made a choice not to compromise and retain the 100% of the process remain on site.

    • @TheGoodDramShow
      @TheGoodDramShow  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for your comments. I think both John and Greig have answered your question. I have seen a number of other distilleries push their stills to the max to satisfy demand and as a consequence the quality of the spirit suffers. And we don't want that, so I guess we have to accept the scarcity.

    • @Tantrum777
      @Tantrum777 3 года назад +1

      @@Tantrum777 it’s not that straightforward, watch the ‘ralfy’ tour of Springbank and you will see that they want to make the best whisky they can rather than the most money. This no compromise attitude to quality is what built their reputation and that has led to its massive popularity and, subsequently, the difficulty of finding it.
