To say Linda was a huge star is an understatement. She was the first female singer to sell out arenas! She could rock, she sang R&B (I saw a video of her and Smoky Robinson doing a few of his songs), she sang jazz, as noted below, opera. And her albums of American classics with the Nelson Riddle Band are iconic. Mick Jagger rewrote the lyrics of Tumbling Dice for her to cover. Any song she covered, instantly became hers. Check out: You're No Good, When Will I Be Loved, Tracks of My Tears, It's So Easy, Just One Look, I can go on and on. She's one of the finest.
I knew you would groove on this legendary singer....she was the most versatile (even doing opera!) and highest paid woman at the time...She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award...she has amazing range and control with a soulful earthy sound..one of the best....peace
@@ShawnSalvadoriSome are saying to listen to her live. I agree. Her vocals will melt you and her absolute adorableness will give you chills. Pick any genre. She mastered it.
Linda Ronstadt is an incredible singer. I saw her at Jones Beach Amphitheater. I was sitting right up front and loved her to pieces. She has so many great songs it’s beyond beautiful to hear her.
She's a Tucson native who started out in the folk-rock trio The Stone Poneys in the late '60s. It didn't take long for people to notice her. Back then, singers could go on late-night shows like The Midnight Special and gain a following overnight. When she did go solo, she put together a backing band which included future members of The Eagles.
"Blue Bayou" was a HUGE HIT in the 1970's, and landed Linda Ronstadt on the cover of TIME Magazine. Plus she is a beautiful woman, with a matching personality. I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Ronstadt in 1980 when she was campaigning with her boyfriend at the time, California Governor Jerry Brown. She was even nicer than her reputation, which is excellent. Unfortunately, she can no longer perform because she has developed Parkinson's Disease, but we still love her. Her voice is magical.
She's legendary. ❤ She did classic jass standards and then got into her heritage and performed classics in the Mexican music genre. Roy Orbison is another legend: Pretty Woman.
I love Ronstadt's delivery and how she can convey the yearning and axiid in her third chorus: I'm going back someday, come what may to Blue Bayou...totally magical stuff. bro. And You're so right sometimes you can just identify a hit song and not even know the song by just how well written and how well composed the song is. You have come far in your musical journey. I have enjoyed the journey as well. Here's another song by Linda Ronstadt and this is a live performance, if interested. "Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good - Live 1976 (Reelin' In The Years Archives)" good quality
Linda Ronstadt's version of the classic 'SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME' is a masterpiece/master class in singing. You get mesmerized by the sound of her voice and how she can sing anything. Classics, Country, Rock, Marachi, Blues, Jazz - Linda was a one-of-a-kind talent.
Glad you finally got to hear this hit and artist. Linda's vocals are crystal clear and so beautiful. The steel guitar gives it a country feel. As Willie Nelson said "There are two kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her." Now you have :-) She has a huge repertoire and I'd recommend her cover of the Eagle's "Desperado" and another one called "Long, Long Time" and her first hit with the Stone Ponies "Different Drum".
Linda Ronstadt is one of my top 3 female singers, seen her in concert two times and what a talent, listen to Lose Again if you want to her vocal range power! Now here is an example of an artist that doesn’t write her songs but you’ll definitely feel the emotion and her vocals are stellar
One of the most heart wrenching songs ever is Linda's "I Never Will Marry". Not only is Linda's voice angelic, this song includes Dolly Parton singing harmonies for her. It is absolutely amazing. Other brilliant songs under the radar are Linda's cover of Warren Zevon's "Carmelita" and JD Souther's "Simple Man, Simple Dreams". Everything she touches is gold. Sad what she has had to endure with her health. Mad love and prayers to her.
I always thought her best was when she was in her Blues/Folk roots. Just brought out the amazing tone in her voice. "Love Has No Pride" LIVE might swell your heart to new heights.
I'm sure others have said it, but just listen to all of her stuff live because she's ALWAYS just as good live as she is in the studio. Plus, it's a joy to watch her perform.
In 2013, after years of struggling with her vocals, Ronstadt was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. However, she later learned that she actually had a Parkinson's-like disorder called progressive supranuclear palsy. Her band in the early days, were members of the Eagles. She advised them to go on their own and that's how the Eagles was formed. She can sing any genre. She even sang a fantastic Spanish speaking song.
Linda sings Pop, Rock, rock and ROll, big band, opera, country and western...she sings every things. At one time she had the number one of the charts of C&W Pop and Rock. Look at Desperado, Adios arranged by Brian Wilson of the beach boys with harmonies, beautiful ballad, Poor Wandering one, soprano, on Broadway, What's New, live with Nelson Riddle and his big band, live version, La Ciggara spanish mariachi to see what her voice can really do...etc etc
Linda was so versatile with her voice! A suggestion if you really want to hear her rock: "Tumbling Dice" or listen to her get into her Mexican roots with "La Charreada" (a visual feast!). I've loved her voice since "Different Drum" first came on the radio.
"What's that 'blew blew' sound?" That sound is a synth drum (roto tom) which gets played out heavily on another track from the "Simple Dreams" album called "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" which is an upbeat country rock song.
Linda Maria Ronstadt has recorded and performed in various genres such as rock, country, light opera, the Great American Songbook, and Latin music. Eleven Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award have been awarded to her. Truly an American treasure.
Love me some Linda my favourite song of her's was when she was in the group The Stone Ponies in the late 60's called Different Drum written by Mike Nesmith of The Monkees.
First time I saw her was on the Johnny Cash show with the Stone Pony band. The next day her name was mentioned on national news because she was barefoot.
Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet until it was stolen from her by a neurological disorder. Fortunately, we have 40 plus years of the most diverse catalogue you will find. She could sing anything. I recommend checking out her live performances as they are legendary and quite often better than the studio cuts. She is well worth a deep dive. Good luck with your channel. 🌺✌️
Dude I am 71, and still have crush on her...I think you may have one now. Sadly she can’t sing anymore because of illness...she still looks fine for an old lady, such as an old man like me😂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Dude you have to check her out live preforming Mariachi music! It’s amazing! She also has done some standards!
Try Roys version-you really need to hear his voice, one of the greatest singers of all time (as is Linda)or, if you want something (somewhat) more contemporary by Roy, give a listen to Shes A Mystery To Me, a song written for Roy by Bono and Edge of U2. Whatever the case, you really need to check out Roy.
Her early work with the Eagles before they were the Eagles is the best but pretty much everything she did was gold. She covered a lot of great songwriters like Jackson Browne, Lowell George and knew exactly what song she needed to do. Her only flaw? Hanging around with Jerry Moonbeam Brown. That never made sense to me.
She has a huge catalog of songs. Live versions are better in my opinion, try Down so Low, Desperado, I will always love you, too many to list. Love her, try her Mexican songs unbelievable.
You're No Good should be up next, then a deep dive is called for. She sounds just as good live, if not better. Sadly, she can no longer sing due to a neuromuscular disease. If you get a chance, watch The Sound Of My Voice, a documentary about her life and career. Fun fact, her early back up band went on to become The Eagles. I think she and Glenn Frey were a couple for a while, and she had a long term relationship with Governor Jerry Brown of California.
She could sing anything. No longer performing due to Parkinson’s Disease, her voice was no longer there, she quit singing in 2011. Try you’re no good, and don’t know much a duet with Aaron Neville.

Always do the live version of Linda singing. Just as good as the studio versions. Plus she's adorable! Mariachi music is a must!

I believe this is a Roy Orbison tune done about 10 years earlier, but Linda does it so well (so does Roy).

She was the Queen of Rock in the '70s.

Linda is a gorgeous person--inside and out, with a marvelous and sweet spirit, from what I have read in countless rock music books.
This is one of my favorite songs. I can imagine being there
The great Roy Orbison is another wonderful rabbithole to go down.
