She was the first female artist to fill stadiums on her own merit. Her body of work is incredible. She released 24 studio albums, singing EVERYTHING from country to pop to rock, to jazz standards, Latin, and even opera! She won 11 Grammys. Her band turned into The Eagles. Her family was of Mexican descent and she grew up singing Mexican folk songs with her family. She never became fluent in the language but could sing the shit out of it, releasing several award-winning Latin albums later in her career. There will never be another one like her!
That last note always gets to me!
Loved your reaction. Her voice is truly a thing of beauty
Raw talent is 100% correct. Linda is one of greatest singers of all time.
Linda is one of the greatest singers of all time, she can sing anything, country, pop, rock, big band, Mexican, Broadway, etc...
And...opera! Her performance in Pirates Of Penzance was incredible.
@@leec5170 I've seen her performance of Poor Wandering One over 50 million times!
No Spanish heritage , she had no relatives or family from Spain
She has Mexican heritage , which is very , very different
Her grandfather was born in Germany , came to Sonora México, married in Mexico , got Mexican nationality
The war made that land to be part of Mexican land in USA land they were crossed by the border line and became automatically USA citizens whether they wanted or not
Yes, Queen!
Listen to the Spanish version by Miss Linda herself, "Lago Azul".
Dereck, You've hit on the essence and symbolism of this song and the flow of feelings that it conveys with happy ness and yearning and sadness. Her vocal range demonstrated here is just a hint of what she can do in other genre's. Give a listen to her Spanish recordings and be really blown away. Liked your analysis, Thanks
Linda could take anybody’s song and make it her own that was her gift. A lot of singers/songwriters joking said they didn’t want her singing their songs because they will never be able to sing them their way ever again. Linda’s gift was discovering unknown songwriters.
Buddy, Linda is Mexican and put out an album in Spanish. She's sung in pretty much every genre out there and always nailed it. She was a perfectionist.
Here's a story that fits in perfectly.
I saw Ms. Ronstadt in 1978 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Ca.
Was a warm summer night, the concert was sold out and Linda was killing everything she sang.
Then she sang this song.
As soon as she finished with that last powerfully sung high note you could have heard a pin drop...
That is until some random woman in the audience let loose with a long heart-felt sigh.
And then....thunderous applause!!!
Linda Ronstadt really had no equal to her vocal abilities back then. I feel blessed now to have seen her many times.
From a forever Ronstadt fan! ❤🎤🎹🎸
Always loved this song! Thank you!!
Linda has one of those voices that can melt your heart. I suggest that you check out all of her songs on her very first greatest hits album and you will be floored.
Side note she is sort of responsible for the Eagles getting their big break into the music business.
When it comes to power and clarity, Linda has no equal. She is so versatile as a singer, she can sing just about anything. Too bad she can't sing no more...we are left with these recordings to admire how fantastic she was.
karen carpenter
That' ll be the day.. one of her song.. versatile singer.. like her so much..
I saw Linda between 4-6 times (I do not remember anymore) in concert. She never disappointed. Even once when her band's equipment did not arrive the Eagles came out and played what they could. She was fabulous. A true legend. She is from Arizona. LOL
Linda was the best vocalist in history!
On point with derecks comments on her voice.
THANK 👍 YOU DERECK FOR THIS GOOD IDEA TO MAKE THOSE YOUNG LISTEN TO MY GÉNÉRATION SUCCÈS..
I WAS YOUNG. AND OLD TODAY 😮😢❤😭😭😭😭😭😭👍👏
Raw vocal talent - you are so right! I'm an old guy who began following Linda in the early 1970's (1974 Heart Like a Wheel - check out "You're No Good" - her first major hit) to my college days (1980 Mad Love - her alternative rock album) and beyond. She can sing anything - and has - Rock, Country, Broadway, Big Band (with Nelson Riddle), and Spanish language. In an interview, she confessed that she loves doing harmony vocals - with Trio (with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris), with Aaron Neville, and many others. She was often called upon to do back-up vocals for a number of artists like Neil Young ("Old Man", "Heart of Gold") , Graham Parsons ("In My Hour of Darkness), Paul Simon ("Under African Skies), etc. You could devote an entire RUclips channel to react to the Linda's raw vocal talent! Thank you so much!
You’re spot on ❤️👏. Her range!
country, rock, r & b, Spanish, 40s - 50s standards...you name it Linda has done it all and won Grammy Awards in all those categories! she continued to re-invent herself never being satisfied. she loved ALL music. you gotta check out especially her standards with the Nelson Riddle band. Linda IS in among the top all-time female singers!! and the most BEAUTIFUL!!! again, nothing but the BEST musicians in that era! ALL acoustic!
Sadly you are correct Whoever they are decided not to make another Linda.Thank God we have these lovely recordings to share and cherish
Linda Ronstadt - a musical genius - you got it my friend - they don't make artists like this today.
One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Fan since many years back when I worked in a record shop and just by chance played one her LP's. Fell in love with her instantly.
Voice now gone, thankfully we still have her music. One of the great voices lost to soon. TY
Linda Ronstadt has an amazing voice! You should definitely check out more from her catalogue.
You should also check out and react to the group Trio. Trio is Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt. They created some of the most beautiful harmonies I have ever heard! 🙂
yes, agree
1000%
You have opened a can of vocal whoop-ass.
Keep with the Ronstadt reactions and you've got another subscriber!
Dereck! Another one of my favorite singers from the 70s! Such control and clarity in her voice. It's very sad that she is no longer able to sing due to medical reasons. Thanks for this flashback! Another singer with a spectacular voice you should check out is k. d. lange...You will be impressed. Her rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelluia" at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics is amazing!
WONDERFUL !!!!
When I here this song I think of the summer 1983 on Fire Island with my family.
She has a German/Mexican heritage. Her father was Mexican. Her first Spanish album, "Canciones de mi Padre" is the biggest selling Spanish language album if all time. she has three other spanish-language albums I think.
LA Music Lover Yes she did 2 other mariachi albums and then she did a album of Afro Cuban standards which she won a grammy.
@@jgg59 That album was Frenesí which I love!
LA Music Lover Have you seen the videos from the tonight show that she did for that
@@jgg59 I think so but I think there is also concert footage
She was the first female singer to headline in arenas. She was huge.
That whole concert performance is awesome.
Heatwave is another Linda song that crazy good
Her album Get Closer is my favourite, and all the songs there are worthy of standing ovation and your reactions: Get Closer; The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress; I Knew You When; Lies; I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine (duet with James Taylor); Mr. Radio, etc. She also has three albums in Spanish: Canciones De Mi Padre, Más Canciones De Mi Padre y Frenesí. You will love those, too.
Linda's album of traditional Mexican, Canciones de Mi Padre is really great.
Una de las más bellas canciones que recuerdo de mi infancia en Ciudad de México. Y ella tenía una versión en español titulada "Lago azul".
Queen of rock ‘n’ roll you need to listen to her version of “When Will I be Loved” Or “Ooh Baby Baby”
Like I said she appeared on Rolling Stone magazine seven times
And she has the largest selling Spanish albums in the the world three mariachi albums her Mexican heritage and one of Afro Cuban standards.
Streisand thought she had one of the best voices she could sing anything. She has perfect pitch and total control of her instrument
Thank you
When will I be loved is great!
Desperado .... Long Long Time ... Silver Threads & Golden Needles ...
@@ellavader4411 Desperado is such a great song by her even if it is an Eagles song but no one seems to want to do a reaction to it. Don't understand why
Love her!!!!!!
I heard she was the catalyst for the creation of The Eagles. She absolutely had a true instrument!
Rudy Villela They were in her back up band and she really encouraged them to create the Eagles. Ronstadt recommended all the bandmembers to Glenn Frey and Don Henley.
Rudy Villela PS the Eagles were upset that Ronstadt and the Eagles were not inducted into the Hall of Fame because she was responsible for their creation. Glenn Frey inducted her into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame.
She introduced the world to their music because “desperado” was a huge song for her in concert That’s what started introducing people to the eagles.
I'm so happy you reacted to this song. I love that final note x
D this is FABULOUS!!,, I LOVE Linda Ronstadt , beautiful just beautiful 👍💙🌴Zane
Ronstadt is up there with Karen Carpenter has having one of the purest voices out there although parkinsons has effected her to the point that she has stoped or cut back considerbly on singing . Check out the 2019 documentary on her about that news .
Pleeze Carpenter couldn't carry Ronstadt's toothbrush. Linda's instrument was divine.
@@justaswell223 tHERE IN THE TOP FIVE LADIES WITH AMAZING VOICES .
I loved seeing your reaction to hearing Linda for the first time. She induces goosebumps !
Great job Dereck. I’m subscribing.
I LOVE Linda.. she's one of my true musical ispirations!!!
Thanks, Dereck! Yes, this was an amazing performance -- her voice is one of my female favorites - I don't actually hear this as "country" music - although there is some "twang" on the instrumentals - also, credit to her background harmony guy - embarrassed to say I don't know his name.. and too lazy to look it up at the moment.. best by Linda!
The lap steel guitar was one of the signature instruments of the 70s
Song featured prominently in D. Washington's "Man on Fire"
Linda rocks. Check out Willin' or You're No Good.
Like Willie Nelson said, there are two types of men, those in love with Linda Ronstat and those who have don't know who she is. Something like that.
Libda Ronstadt is Mexican American. She lived out in California, She has the Californian accent.
Every young man back in the day had a crush on this young lady! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 it’s Americana music! The west coast sound. That’s talent no freakin auto-tune.
Beautiful Roy Orbison song too!
It's for times like this I sometimes leave the Closed Captioning on. Check the CC when you said, "She has a nice vibratto."
Wonderful version of Linda’s most recognizable song beautiful stuff love you
Hello Dereck ! Speaking of Roy Orbison, please react to K.D. Lang singing "Crying" at MTV Unplugged (a Roy Orbison cover). Amazing live performance !!
Linda & kd are my two favorite singers! Yes!
I 100% think of Louisiana when I hear this song.
When the song came out in 1977, they didn't have music videos. Luckily this concert was recorded. She is such an incredible singer, that you can rarely tell the difference between a studio track and a live performance. That is how amazing she always sounded. She could sing anything. It is a very cruel trick of nature that she can no longer sing due to Parkinson's disease. I would encourage you and your audience to watch the documentary "Linda Ronstadt- The Sound of My Voice ". It came out early this year and you can find it on streaming services. You'll be dazzled.
LA Music Lover Well they were promotional videos that groups made like Abba and the Bee Gees but they weren’t supposed to be seen by the public
A legend, a beauty, pure talent. She’s achieved every award you can give a singer. Hard to believe she’s in her 70’s now. If you want to hear her best song try “Your No Good”. I SS in love with her growing up. Thx
Try Blue Bayou by Roy Orbison his black and white concert. Lots of great music from that concert to review. Take your pick.
This song has some of the 'tastiest' steel playing ever!!!!
Please react to Linda Ronstadt, Heat wave and Tumbling dice ,Live from 1977 Atlanta concert. Also Stone Ponies, Different Dummer her first hit.
Your no Good is a great one! She has many great hits! Her style was called country rock. She gave the Eagles they’re start.
She was then California Governor Jerry Browns' girl friend when this song came out.
Love Linda and love this song. The first time I heard it was on The Muppet Show a couple of centuries ago 😀
Derek, One less bell to answer. The 5 dimension.
hands down, the best singer ever linda is german/mexican hertiage check out linda singing Desperado
Watch a clip from her performance in the pirates of penzance movie if you want to see what else she "has up her sleeve".
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite songs. Linda was notably a country singer, but many of her songs including Blue Bayou crossed over to pop. The “Hawaiian strings”, as you called it, was a steel guitar, which was a popular instrument used in country and western songs of the early years. Thanks again for the review.
One of the most beautiful voices ever
Watch Linda Ronstadt perform "What's New" (Original Video). You will be glad you did.
ELP Pirates live Montreal 1977
Hello Dereck , check out Crazy from her 1976 concert Offenbach Germany posted by PretzelFarmer
Check out "Poor Wandering One" from Pirates of Penzance and your mind will be totally blitzed at her diversity. Thanks, enjoyed this.
Hot and sultry in the Bayou!
Listen to Linda sing, 'Long Long Time'
WoW !!!
Linda was the best. We all had a crush on her back in the day. A super talent.
one of my favorite female singers of all time
loved the quality on this dereck. so many reactors dont do this justice with poor quality audio. subscribed
I seldom use the word GOAT, unless we are talking baying, or Hendrix, Legend, and a couple more.
However, Linda could stand on/share a stage with anybody one, the list in the in the same category don’t number that many.
Me encanta. Ella hizo una version es español. El lago azul
Try some of her spanish songs. She 's part Mexican, Listen to "La Charreada" "La Cigarra" or "Por un amor"
LR grew up in Arizona.
was of German, English, and Mexican ancestry
PLEASE PLEASE REACT TO EL CRUCIFIJO DE PIEDRA BY LINDA RONSTADT. The most difficult and amazing song by miss Linda
Iconic WOMAN. Wow...could listen all day. Love HER! Try the song Your No Good.. It is AWESOME!!
Checkout Roy Orbisons version he wrote this song
The female voice of the 70s
The whole concert is great!
She sing this song in Spanish as well
FYI. She also recorded BLUE BAYOU in Spanish. Beautiful interpretation.
Try her "Love Has No Pride". Thank you!
👍Hawaiian influence
the legendary "queen of remakes" according to casey kasem...
SUBSCRIBED!!!!GREAT REACTIONS.HI FROM NORTH CAROLINA🇺🇸👍😊☀
You should react to more of Linda’s songs like It’s so easy, When will I be loved, You’re No Good or Heat Wave but I bet you would love Love has no pride, Long Long Time or Desperado. At least listen to different songs sung by her from all of the genres she’s done.
Linda is fantastic, and so are you, Dereck! Please react to Still Within the Sound of my Voice by her.
When singers were real singers and musicians were real musicians....no computers or auto tune!
When people who couldn't sing ... didn't.
