Go straight to part 4 after this mate. He raps over maybe half a dozen or more beats, changing his flow up every beat. Then finishes with an extract out of one of his books performed as a spoken opera. Just a completely different level of talent and intelligence.
As a white working class Brit that grew up listening to Akala (I was listening to his first big track 'Shakespeare' when I was 10), he really opened my eyes to so many things. He taught me that as a white working class Brit, I have far more in common with British working class people of other ethnicities than I do with the people who supposedly represent me in Government. But if the white working class British united with working class Brits of other ethnicities we'd have too much power in a democracy, and so the government, doesn't matter if it's Labour or Conservatives, has been engineering a race war between us for decades. The reason so many white working class Brits join hate groups like the EDL isn't because they're born racist, it's because they're told to be racist, because 'coloured people are stealing your jobs' and all that nonsense. It's obviously not true, but because the education system here is built to marginalise white working class Brits, most of us can't do shit about it because that's all we learn growing up. So then the country has these artificially-created racists that they can then turn to the non-white working class people and go 'look at those racists, they're you're enemy, not us.' It's terrible and unfortunately it's still a huge problem even now. The British government and others in power intentionally split the working class by race to stop us from uniting and doing great things, and Akala knows. He's known for decades. And thanks to him I know.
@@natrixxirtanthere's is only one human race biologically. Race is a social construct created in order to justify colonialism, oppression and slavery. Therefore we can only consider a racial group to be one that has been created through a system of oppression. The EDL identified themselves as English, which can't be defined as a 'race' and certainly can't be defined as many of them. They are racist because they believe and rely on roundly debunked racial ideas of natural or cultural inferiority and differences. Their membership may be relatively diverse (although it isn't in the slightest) but that has nothing to do with their aims and objectives, which are anti-diversity and anti-multiculturalism.
This kid got tears in my eyes, he reminding me of people like Common, X Clan, Public Enemy, Poor Righteous Teachers, Isis, Queen Mother Rage; I can go on and on. I love it, thank you so much Scru for introducing me to this young man.
Here we go. I've been spamming for Fire in the Booth 4 now heavy, which I imagine you'll eventually get to. When you get to part 4, make sure to also listen to the spoken word bit at the end. One of the most incredible things I've ever heard. I think Akala stands alone in his own lane. A real scholar MC. Akala is one of a handful whose voice I legitimately can change lives, IMPROVE lives for the better. He educates but doesn't preach, doesn't pander. His book 'Natives' is a fantastic read, enlightening. He is the real fucking deal.
This man spit so hard and so true he got Scru speaking Nigerian again... He hit something so DEEP in his SOUL that Scru went back to his ancestral home. That's a power not many have. That's a power that DEMANDS respect. ... I gotta go read read now...
first time listening to Akala of any kind and this is insanely direct and to the point and i love it. Upon first listen it seems like Akala is to rap what George Carlin is to comedy... It's pure philosophy and ethics essays disguised as art. It's extremely rare to find education and truth in such a flow
I feel the same way everytime I watch this. Gets me going everytime. Akala is in my opinion the greatest rapper/human in the industry. To spit facts that hard and do it the way he does. There’s no one better.
Yo Idk if you heard it fully cos you were talking over the second half of the bar, but he said "I don't hang what I make around my neck - I know from where that the diamonds came, but I literally own a library that definitely costs more than your chain." That is one of the best bars I've ever heard. Akala's truly a UK legend, thanks for reacting.
I absolutely love watching America’s digest Akala, he is too fast for a lot of people I’ve seen react. Your reaction is exactly what Akala designed the bars for, absolute knowledge and flow. Deep!!

Just everything I love about rap in one go, just a unfettered stream of consciousness giving voice to the powerless in the LOUDEST possible terms. Just fuck me that was powerful.
First time i heard this it changed my understanding of racism and how to be white and anti-racist, how to understand my lived experience of class as a way to relate to systemic racism. Also how these two systems differ and that only through full intersectional class solidarity can we overcome the system that opresses all of us (to lesser or greater extents).
you have to understand; man has TWO honorary doctorates for his contributions to art and sociology, political philosophy and his lifelong constant condemnation and war on the racist infrastructure in the UK, he fully earned his legend status in music while always championing the people
Wow so glad you checked him out my guy, i can't wait for your reaction to his other fire in the booths. Just listening to him has changed my outlook on life and got the chance to meet him after a show as well. His Oxford uni speech is worth a watch as well in your own time.

Yeah man agree! Akala spits actual truth.. not like the mumble bars that we hear today… all part of the plan tho I’m afraid, tryin to dumb us down with stereotypical negative bars and messages. Big up Akala!
He is talking that shit too!! Like the messages are beyond up there. 🔥🔥🔥 bruh the connection to us & Brit bananas. I got a lil throwback twista vibe to his flow

As a black man who was the first to go to university in his family. Akala inspired me so much as a child to chase knowledge. Absolutely love the guy.
You go aaron
Dude has a company that sets up hip hop Shakespeare stuff, does lectures, talks knife crime in UK TV and shit. He's the real deal!
He also has an honorary degree from a Russel Group University and has given history lectures at Oxford
@@4dra shame he lacks perspective
Part 4 is another level and the spoken word from his book in the second half is spine tingling. 🔥🔥🔥
I've always thought 4...possibly because of the beats but this 1 is maybe more informative lol
@@evoaddict1 Ngl after listening both back to back i would say 1 lyrically is better but 4 is more polished in his flow/delivery
