Thank you for the love, my friend. I'm SO excited to see your sketchbook doodles. PLEASE let me send you my favorite Zebra Brush Pen! I think you'll love it.
I adore Scott. He’s a national treasure. He’s the dad of the art community and he’s just the best. Wholesome, relatable, skilled and experienced. Hes always grateful and realistic. Everyone deserves an art dad like Scott.
A person in my neighborhood has art in their window that is very clearly inspired by Sam's art style and usual subjects, and it always makes me smile :)
I love Chommang!! His tutorials seem to be really easy to understand and I will definitely follow his vids more when I have time to draw since I'm busy with graphic design stuff for school so I don't have free time for other learning D:
I always see artists acting like they know everything and they are good at everything. The reason why i watch samdoesart is 1. he has the same name as my brother so it was kinda for jokes at the start but 2 hes not afraid to learn new stuff like drawing with a pencil and paper! as a mostly traditional artist i love to see it.
Marc Brunet is A LOT more helpful than Scott as far as teaching goes. Scott is better at making me feel relaxed and reminds me not to put too much pressure on myself. As much as I like Sam I'd say Sycra is better at getting points across at least for myself. The way Sycra shows how to simplify things down more really helps with people that are overly analytical. Proko is good. I agree he's one of the best.
3:25 ahhh i love this sm!!! i remember once looking at an empty sketchbook (I think it was my friends scketchbook- anyways) they told me that they were kinda scared {maybe anxious?) abt drawing in it because the cover was pretty and they didn't want to "draw ugly sketches in a pretty book"..... i asked them if they thought that artist can plan if a sketch is pretty or not, they said that no one can fully plan how a drawing will look....... that sketchbook was filled with many drawings an even paintings, in what seemed less than a month! lol. they learned not to buy the pretty sketchbooks from then on, "they are very un-motivating" -my beloved friend :3
I loved all these tips especially the one about perfectionism and treating your sketchbook like it’s a one time precious thing. I’ve had a new watercolor sketchbook sitting on my desk for MONTHS because I don’t want to “ruin it with bad art.” But I’m gonna stat making crappy art. I’m gonna keep making crappy art until all the crappiness is out of my system :) Thank you Sam for your wholesome and funny videos! P.s. it was so good to see you at OCAD :)) ALSO SUPER EXCITED TO SEE MORE TRADITIONAL ART FROM YOU!!!!
You got a couple of my favorites in there again, and the Sam X Scott friendship era continues! I was surprised to see Lucas, Proko twice, LavenderTowne, and Scott twice. I said it in Scott's video, too, but I think so many people get hung up on the possibility of burnout, that they don't think about drawing every day with a purpose. Also, I had watched many of the videos in that scroll, like Mohammad Agbadi and Trent Kaniuga.
I was one of the earliest subscriber to Chommang's channel. I've seen him improving and so happy like a proud father while I'm a lazy bum still busy twirling at societal's whim rather than improving my own drawing
11:15 I was in London zoo, visiting and a saw many beautiful animals. Then I saw this lady and she was drawing every animal and it was gorgeous! I went up to her and asked her what I should do to improve my art... " draw everything everyday whatever it is draw it" props to that woman who has helped me with my art journey!! >3
Hello Sam! I recommend Proko, He is RUclipsr and teach a lot of fundamentals drawings, I knew him since college and I still hold his lessons in my heart. For self taught and finding such amazing talent people teaching their knowledge like you and Proko are very generous, In my childhood I never thought I can improve so much with self-taught but RUclipsrs are the best teachers for me. Also your new roommate chicken is cute!
Thank you, sam. I have always loved drawing/painting and I've often had trouble not comparing myself with others. I've always found it hard not to think i was super horrible because others are better. But you have really helped me become more confident in my art. And you have helped me remember why i draw in the first place. So, thank you so much.
0:53 I’m someone who traces over references (changing it to fit my style more) then uses my traced version and the original version as references, it helps me understand it in a way I understand and a way I sing understand, I have issues with stuff that isn’t familiar and only using that hence why I make the reference more accurate to my style along with using the actual reference so I don’t get overwhelmed
My favorite videos are the ones where you fix peoples art. With just a few changes, it makes such a big difference. They are amazing. Thanks for another video.
I remember seeing a video that claimed that drawing everyday is bad advice. I didnt watch the video, but thats what the title and thumbnail claimed. I only got decent at drawing hands because, despite how notoriously painful it is, I kept drawing them everytime I drew my characters because I wanted to get better, and I did. You dont have to draw every single day if you cant or dont feel like it, but I'd say draw as much as you can if you really want to improve.
Aw, thanks so much! I'm really excited to see your sketchbook doodles too. You're so sweet to offer - I'd love to try out your favorite Zebra Brush Pen! I bet it'll be perfect for my sketching. 😊
"...Just look in the mirror. If it hasn't already shattered." LOL! This vid was actually motivating to watch and I enjoy the art tips that you and others share with us Sam!
Im a pianist since 35 years and it's only by having fun on the keyboard that brought me who I am today. Without fun, you will give up very early. Lessons/teacher is great to avoid beginners mistakes and avoid gaps in skills, but fun is the real teacher.
not sure if youll notice this but ive been watching your vids these past few weeks for like everyday and ive been drawing everyday too and my growth has just been exponential. thank you so much for your art tips. i stored all of them in my mental library specially the ones on design OC 's
The tutorial with the squares, flowers and patterns for clearing your mental state is meditation for people who can't do meditation because there are too many thoughts swirling around in their brains. I'm one of those people, I can never meditate or do breathing exercises because my brain is on full blast all the time but with zentangles and doodling I can focus the active part of my brain on the doodle, what I'm doing, the lines I'm making, the patterns I'm using etc. while the rest of my brain gets to sit in quiet peace. It's not for everyone but it can be super helpful if you need a way to shut your brain off for a bit.
5:47 i see what you mean there, but i still prefer using the box to find the perspective cause it's really hard to miss when you get used to it, the gesture can be added before or after the boxes and it will still work
I wish finding art style was that easy for me. Mine was found by finding out which styles I didn't have to fight my Own hand to form. I found it by experimenting and finding that it is the style I don't have to argue with myself to make

I love Chommang!! His tutorials seem to be really easy to understand and I will definitely follow his vids more when I have time to draw since I'm busy with graphic design stuff for school so I don't have free time for other learning D:
Chommang mentioned!!
He has very good tutorials for beginners and his crafting method to draw is just interesting

I actually watch Chommang a lot since recently. Really informative and his art is very cute.
Usually i take like a whole 6 months break from drawing and when i draw again, my lineart, anatomy and everything just improves magically 😭😭
