the used to play at lot in the 90's ! i could see and hear them back in 93,94 ! was just hypnotic gigs , intense and very innovative at that time ! Incredible souvenirs
thats the first time ive really seen adam actually get into the music that much. well...obviously hes always into it, but usually he is very stoic on stage. it doesnt matter what presence he shows, as long as he feels the music while others feel it too.
This is great tribute to Led Zeppelin. I believe the singer was using a megaphone to get that creepy sounding Robert Plant voice on the studio version of this from Houses of the Holy! Additionally, I love how he dances, writhes and seems possessed by the song !!! That is brilliant, because Led Zeppelin's music can enwrap you and possess you !!! Some of Zeppelin's music can be hypnotic and clearly the singer felt it and knows that !! Great job Tool !!!! Great song to do of Zep's too !
Don't know how you guys got on that subject, but I gotta say, I find something really special when I listen to Zeppelin and Sabbath's music, and for some reason Priest never really did that for me. Everyone's going to find the beauty in different places though, so just let that be.
its amazing he gets all the words, i mean he had a kind of mess up at one of the shows i went to and i have heard of like 3 others, but with those kind of drugs, man thats impressive
Priest was formed in 69. Sabbath was formed in 68. Zep was formed in 68. Priest was not way later, they were all at the same time. I'd say that the heavy Rock that Tool plays was influenced more by Sabbath and Priest than Zep, Zep I'd say influenced more the classic Rock bands that the heavy bands.
yeah, ya gotta get used to the megaphone, but after you get passed that, and the fact that he's singing an octave lower that Robert Plant, its actually pretty good in my opinion.
Anyone know if these guys have ever done a Set the Controls For The Heart of The Sun cover? I was kinda wondering since it was one of the Pink Floyd songs that was most infuential on their style, yet I can't find any footage or audio.
naysayers: you wanna hear a butchered cover, listen to dolly parton cover Stairway. don't hate because you can't cover Zeppelin like Tool can. this song fits them so well.
@slashrules88 dont even compare zeppelin to those two bands id say, personally ; led zeppelin/tool/pink floyd, only three bands i can listen to ANY song and never tire of
@slashrules88 i'd have to disagree with you there. you could argue the quality of black sabbath and led zeppelin all day, but as far as influential it goes hands down to Black Sabbath. Ever heard of the genre metal? yea guess where it started. Zeppelin definitely created some hard rockers, but they were not the birth of metal.
LOL - someone typed a comment - this is better than Led Zeppelin's version ????!!!! What version ? They played this song on every tour starting in 1973 - son, you clearly haven't listened to many live Led Zeppelin shows at all !!! Particularly, the version from The Song Remains the Same or from 1977 tour in which John Paul Jones plays a 6 to 7 min piano concerto in the middle! It's alway funny when someone posts a comment like that. This version is very good, but it's cleary not Led Zeppelin
Why the hell would you compare the Tool and Led Zeppelin versions of this song? They're both amazing bands and to be honest to say one is better than the other--especially since Tool is paying tribute to Zeppelin--is kind of in a way an insult to both the bands
What!! Zepplin IS a founder of rock and roll. Sabbath is good, but they didnt start it. L.Z. 1 was released in 68, Sabbath didnt release thier first till 70. As far as Judest Priest, theyre not even close to being in the league of Zeppelin.
@spider0179 How can u say a song is better just because it is the orignal? ESPECIALLY when you're talking about Zep who have a poor reputation of stealing other peoples music
not gonna lie. don't love the cover, have mad respect for these guys (being good music in the 21st century and all) but to me they just don't gel as Zep does. i anticipate and appreciate a few thumbs down...
the used to play at lot in the 90's ! i could see and hear them back in 93,94 ! was just hypnotic gigs , intense and very innovative at that time ! Incredible souvenirs
It was perfect in my opinion. They f'n rock. One of the best real bands out there!!!
i can play this on my guitar....love it. wish i could see it live though..missed them this year
seeing this live is something really special
Ahh the good old days when they did not play the same set list for 2-3 years straight still love em either way MJK is the ultimate performer.
Third Eye live is INSANE
***TOOL live is insane. Saw them 8/7/2009
thats the first time ive really seen adam actually get into the music that much. well...obviously hes always into it, but usually he is very stoic on stage. it doesnt matter what presence he shows, as long as he feels the music while others feel it too.
8:55 That shuffle around the stage is Buck Nasty..Followed by that patented Maynard yell. That would make any crowd go fucking insane!!
I always liked Tool...but this rendition made me into a goddamn fan. Excellent.
This is just religiously splendid in all its glory.
This is great tribute to Led Zeppelin. I believe the singer was using a megaphone to get that creepy sounding Robert Plant voice on the studio version of this from Houses of the Holy!

9:00 on you can totally hear a Crimson influence...I totally wasnt expecting it to go into such an awesome 7/8 groove...epic
what a way to cover track...
WOW!
after realising this cover, i believe led zeppelin members agreed this song isn't their song anymore
TALKBOX !!!!! THIS GUY IS LEGENDARY.
only 25000 views??!?! wtf this is a very precious tape
Don't know how you guys got on that subject, but I gotta say, I find something really special when I listen to Zeppelin and Sabbath's music, and for some reason Priest never really did that for me. Everyone's going to find the beauty in different places though, so just let that be.
Nice man ! I wish I would have seen them back them ! They look really intense !
its amazing he gets all the words, i mean he had a kind of mess up at one of the shows i went to and i have heard of like 3 others, but with those kind of drugs, man thats impressive
Soooo good.
what a fuckin tune!!!! well good for a cover. love what what they did with it.
God, I hope they play this song live again before they retire
that song is on one of their albums !!!!!!
I FUCKING LOVE TOOL SO MUCH!!
Amen to that....
@jarocore totally agree. Carey, Grohl and Bonham
haha I was JUST telling my brother that I want to see them do this song live before I die.
@catalystvoxco He's singing in the same octave, he's just using a fuller voice so it sounds lower.
Not a bad cover, but it does make me appreciate the awesome job that Robert Plant does on the original version!
Does he know the crowd is the other direction??? LOL Just kidding, patented Maynard!
that moment from 6:00 is priceless.
even better live. That's the case with all of tool's songs though.
look at the crowd thats fucking ecstatic
@MCPuckett77 both are great in their own right
Priest was formed in 69.
Whoever disliked this is just pissed because Tool managed to out due Zeppelin
@blacksamson11 Hell yea. Phish knows how to lay this one down. Among many others.
@TorrMup they will never retire! >:D TOOL IS IMMORTAL!!!
yeah, ya gotta get used to the megaphone, but after you get passed that, and the fact that he's singing an octave lower that Robert Plant, its actually pretty good in my opinion.
Holy dog shit!! that was when justin was using a musicman!
@blacksamson11 yeah bro i saw them play it in chicago last week and it was purely fucking awesome
i want to see the toronto 1996 version i saw it in the allmusic interviews if anyone can tell me where to watch it that would be great
Anyone know if these guys have ever done a Set the Controls For The Heart of The Sun cover? I was kinda wondering since it was one of the Pink Floyd songs that was most infuential on their style, yet I can't find any footage or audio.
Maynard is sooooooo fucking cool!!!! AHHHHHHHHH
are they using a bass instead of keyboards?
Min 08:59
*MindBlowing moment*
better than the original, especially vocal and drum
naysayers: you wanna hear a butchered cover, listen to dolly parton cover Stairway.
don't hate because you can't cover Zeppelin like Tool can. this song fits them so well.
When Maynard screams at the end, is he running around on his knees?
If he is then he can seriously haul A
Their retirement show they're gonna play this song, guarantee it.
@slashrules88 dont even compare zeppelin to those two bands id say, personally ; led zeppelin/tool/pink floyd, only three bands i can listen to ANY song and never tire of
it's not an octave lower.
it's actually a half step higher
@lilrocker1053 Its not Justin
@emiliovandradejr hahahaha. NICE!
amazing. what's maynard got written on his back?
@TorrMup to true...
@walabalabingbong You're right, but let's be honest. These guys don't touch Zeppelin, lol.
9:20 adam kinda head bangs!
i think its better vocals than original, more powerfull
LOL!!! watch this guy at 8:55 he gets on his kness and runs around screaming, its the shit!!!!!!
maynards one insane dude, but god damn can he scream. If i could scream like that i would just scream at people on the street. It would be great
WOLFENSTEEEEEEEEEEEIN!
megaphone for voice distortion is my guess
@catalystvoxco do you know what an octave is? He is NOT singing any lower than Plant, much less an octave!
@Tony63909 A God
When was this recording shot?
Zep didn't start hard heavy rock. Sabbath and Priest did.
i'm with ya dude. f*** mtv
LOL - someone typed a comment - this is better than Led Zeppelin's version ????!!!! What version ? This version is very good, but it's cleary not Led Zeppelin
Zeppelin didn't start hard heavy rock. Sabbath and Priest did.
maynard is totally tripping out lol
I can make out what the guitarists and the drummer are, but what the hell is the singer?
Why the hell would you compare the Tool and Led Zeppelin versions of this song? They're both amazing bands and to be honest to say one is better than the other--especially since Tool is paying tribute to Zeppelin--is kind of in a way an insult to both the bands
@andrusy That's a foolish statement.
What!! Zepplin IS a founder of rock and roll. Sabbath is good, but they didnt start it. L.Z. 1 was released in 68, Sabbath didnt release thier first till 70. As far as Judest Priest, theyre not even close to being in the league of Zeppelin.

Ol' Maynard's a strange one
not bad
f i s h and c h i p s
Zeppelin's was good... but TOOL made it great....
too insane to be on youtube.
Maynard > Plant
not gonna lie. don't love the cover, have mad respect for these guys (being good music in the 21st century and all) but to me they just don't gel as Zep does. i anticipate and appreciate a few thumbs down...
He's so awful at dancing.
