I am in a networking class. Intro to routing and switching using cisco. My professor hasn't taught me anything and all of a sudden he gives the class a project to design a ip scheme. I paid for your online course yesterday, watched probably 20 (short) lessons. Now, I'm almost done with my project.
Thanks brother! ..I really appreciate this message and glad that my class was able to help you. So, now, all I would like for you to do is "pass the word around"...and let your professor know if he would like for me to do a live appearance for FREE
@@thenetworkingdoctors I already told my class about you and posted a link to your site on my class discussion board. I'll try and run it by my professor about the live appearance.
@@thenetworkingdoctors I was wondering. Are any of your labs downloadable. I'm having a hard time recreating the network based on the topology you show in your videos. Right now I'm working on your eigrp lesson. The 1841 routers you use don't have a serial port so I'm using generic. And I tried a cidr 30 (255.255.255.252) on my ip addresses but they are conflicting with each other. So I adjusted them a bit changing the third octete seemed to work. But now they aren't working on the 10.0.0.0 network. I'm assuming I would just need to do a few more configurations with eigrp. I'm sure I can figure it out so it will work. But I'm having a bit of difficulty.
@jasmit kaur sahi ...when you count for subnets or hosts, you start by counting from 2 and double as you go (i.e.: 2,4,8,16,32,64....etc.). Also, when you count for subnets you count from Left to Right. When you count for hosts, you count from Right to Left. So, you always subtract 2 from the HOST side and you only subtract 2 from the NETWORK side if you are NOT using the Zero subnet. In my examples, the only time, I count by 1 and double as I go (i.e.: 1,2,4,8,16,32,64128) is when I count the BIT values in each OCTET. I do have a YT video called "Starting at 2 & Double As You Go"...this might clarify the method to my madness.
+The Networking Doctors I've been out of the IT game for a few years, and even when I did work with submasks, I didn't have to do much unless it was giving a machine a static IP. Aside from that, all the networks were already built before I started working at my job, so all these lessons never really came up. Im looking to get back into the IT industry, and wanted to brush up on my facts. I had no idea that creating subnets like this had so many facets. I admit, I had to watch this video at least 5 times in a row, pausing, taking notes, copying his diagrams....I figured out on my own about counting by doubling each number in the sequence beginning by 2 for subnets (left to right) and same but except right to left for the hosts; but I admit it took several times of me wondering why the hell he didn't start with 1. It all makes sense now, reading these comments its funny how many people it threw off about why he began by 1 and then by 2; I finally understand sub networking now, and this video is the best i have seen on youtube. Just a suggestion +The Networking Doctors but since this is the most popular youtube video on the subject and getting close to 1 Million views, I think it would be helpful to make annotations (like scrolling text perhaps, pop up windows?) explaining why a you switch from starting at 1's and then switching to 2's. The Bit Sequence vs. The subnet/host (2's) sequence. If you just added that little note in the video itself each time you do that then it would really be a perfect video. Just a thought, but love your teaching style. You sound hard and strict in a way, like a military person really taking us all on a sub netting bootcamp. Your demeanor really gives us incentive to get this down and push us to think hard and logically. This has helped tremendously, please continue putting video's like this on youtube!

Coming from app-dev background and wanted to learn networking deep but yet simple, OMG! This is the best thing I discovered on youtube in ages..thank you sir, you are a rockstar.
Thanks, Laz, I hope you're doing well. I have my Networking exam in 51 minutes and I haven't touched anything till now. firstly thanks for the great video. I just wanted to know why is it that sometimes you count including the one like at 15:33 but at 22:20 you count starting with 2?
okay i watched that video and what i understood from it is that when counting the bit values you count in ones and that is used in order to calculate the range?

Best video on subnetting and IPv4. Read a lot about this, payed corses etc.. all bla bla bla about magic numbers etc. Now its just BOOM spot on! Thanks a lot, grate video!
I was lectured an entirely different way to subnet in my training for the ICND1 class today.. it completely screwed me up! I'm going back to this, this is the best way Laz thank you, and thanks for your dynamic teaching style. Never boring.
With a short attention span, I could never sit through subnetting tutorials. When the numbers came up, I just zoned out. Your enthusiasm kept me paying attention though. Thanks man!
I've already committed these numbers to memory, I've been looking for a method for subnetting that works for me for a while. with books, classes, boot camps. and every time they give me a very complex way of getting the answers. I got this shit down in a afternoon watching this video. you filled in so many questions I've had for so long. I never right comments on videos , but this video takes the cake.
Thanks for the help.. I am in school currently and the way they taught it was so confusing. with the knoledge i already had you made it make since. You are a ROCK STAR. again thanks

The first 20 minutes is more helpful then the half years worth of networking lectures I've attended. There are some things you just cannot learn from PowerPoint slides! Thanks a bunch! Very informative and to-the-point.
Great video shared with confidence. Please forgive me, although I only watched the first 15 minutes of your video, it looks more suitable to someone who has seen subnetting and knows about IP to refresh rather than a novice to grasp. Don't get me wrong it has refreshed my memory and did the trick. thanks and all the best.
Thanks so much Teacher! I'm currently a banker trying to initiate a career transitioning to IT.... but despite the fact that I'm still very green in computer networking, you made this course so easy and interesting for me to understand. I love this guy and his t-shirt. The Network Doctor got me through my CCNA 1- 4 courses. I now have my Associates and working on my Bachelor's Degree in Cyber Security... Thank You!!!!
Why when calculating the /28 Network you started counting the mask bits at 1 but when calculating the network with 100 hosts you started the mask bits at 2? Am I missing something or was that just a mistake? Great video though very helpfull.
yeah.. i didn't got that too...
Thanks for helping me out! 😊
For further explanation you can watch my video called “Counting by 2 and double as you go” It should clarify your question
Thank a lot this was a very important lecture for me . cause I am from Afghanistan.
Glad I was able to help 👍
Doesn't matter where you're from
Thank you for this video. It helped me pass my Network+. 823 out of 900. This is the best IPv4 subnetting instruction I've run across. Thanks again.
Coming from app-dev background and wanted to learn networking deep but yet simple, OMG! This is the best thing I discovered on youtube in ages..thank you sir, you are a rockstar.
Thank you so much Rohit! 😉
Thank you sir. The video was great !
Thanks Novin!
Why did you stopped making videos please upload complete networking videos.
Thanks, Laz, I hope you're doing well. I have my Networking exam in 51 minutes and I haven't touched anything till now. I understood the core idea and the way to do it but I'm more confused if you start from the right or the left for what. Anyways, this video made me realise how good a teacher can be if you give your best effort. Your accent and the confident/ aggressive tone delivers the message right across the room waking up every slouching student.
Thank you so much 😊 And let me know when you pass! My email is: info@thenetworkingdoctors.com
THis is the best subnetting video I have ever come across. Thank you so much
Wow, thank you!
I don't get the comments saying "why is he mad at me" "why is he yelling". He sounds like a normal dude, just coz he doesn't look your average IT nerd don't mean he's angry.
Thanks Mr Robot!...I am normal right? 😎
I agree! It kept me focused. Thank you very much for your tricks.
انت رائع جدا thanx
Thank you Gogo Gogo...I think?
I had left exact one hour to submit my lab...I watched the video and I DID IT IN 10 Minutes....thank you very much
2020, 8 years later and still one of the best videos out there
massive thank you :)
Thank you 😊
firstly thanks for the great video. I just wanted to know why is it that sometimes you count including the one like at 15:33
but at 22:20 you count starting with 2?
+Junz Vids ...I explain that in another video called "Counting by 2's & Double as you go"
okay i watched that video and what i understood from it is that when counting the bit values you count in ones and that is used in order to calculate the range?
Very clear unforgettable explanation. Then again my Cuban friends have that: clarity of mind, very practical and to the point. Plus the "angry" way of talking which is not
The way you explain the subnetting is so simple, thanks.
This video tutorial is very cleary to know about subnetting. Now I can go further with my home networking and my study. Thanks a lot.
Finally after two very long days studying the subnets I finally understand them. Thanks!
Glad to help!

i really enjoy your way of teaching. its blunt and straight to the point. Not going to lie, i have been struggling to grasp this concept in my ccna classes but after watching your vid i feel more comfortable with the process than i have felt in the last 8weeks of study. So thanks for the video :D
IP addressing and submitting is the Kryptonite of all IT professionals. So, don't feel bad...you are not alone, that's precisely why I made this video. To help those like yourself. A newer version will be coming out in 2016!
If i have a teacher like u in my class there will be little fun n too much seriousness which will help me n my mate
learn quick
Thanks Sir
Hi Laz, Reg. Critical networking issue. Wife started to doubt me. Since I wanna get the certification done and dusted, I've started to watch your videos as the world gonna end tomorrow. All your channels are excellent. I watch those at every meal time, shaving, in the gym, etc. I hope my marriage survives learning time and I can attend to my family again. Thank you for all the great classes. Krys.
+ARcTic STROKE ...your marriage will definitely survive. I was like you when I started and had a lot of support from my wife. Now, she's very happy that I do what I do and we're a very happy family. Your determination and perseverance will pay off!
Easiest way I've seen without pre-made charts or calculators. Thank you!!
Thanks a lot for shouting at me and giving me attitude. Much appreciated.
Your lecture was awesome, i now understand IP address and Subnetting. Thanks
Glad to be of help 😎
I swear I learn better when someone is yelling at me. Thank you. It really is easy when you break it down this way.
You’re welcome 😉
We all have different ways of learning.
It seems that yours is auditory which is enhanced when your hearing is stimulated by a high decibel frequency, which helps your brain 🧠 to retain the information. 🤪
Best video on subnetting and IPv4. Read a lot about this, payed corses etc.. all bla bla bla about magic numbers etc. Now its just BOOM spot on!
Thanks a lot, grate video!
This was great. He reminds me of the first CCIE engineer I studied under. Very no nonsense and to the point. Great job!
Awwesome video. 2 words - "Simplicity" and "Doctoral". Thank you!!!!!!
Great great video. I have watched a number of subnetting and IP addressing videos and this is one of the best. Thanks so much for posting.
Thanks for your support! I'm glad I was able to help 😉
Laz, thanks for your "down-to-earth" teaching methods, helps us (regular people) understand this so much better.
Thanks man!
Thank you Rocks! ...I hope you were able to understand subnetting and apply it
I've already committed these numbers to memory, I've been looking for a method for subnetting that works for me for a while. with books, classes, boot camps. and every time they give me a very complex way of getting the answers. I got this shit down in a afternoon watching this video. you filled in so many questions I've had for so long. I never right comments on videos , but this video takes the cake.
Thanks Jermaine!
I’m glad that I was able to her 😊
Remember that although the video is very old, the information is still relevant today.
Thanks for the help.. I am in school currently and the way they taught it was so confusing. with the knoledge i already had you made it make since. You are a ROCK STAR. again thanks
Never imagined I would see this long video. Every thing you told is important. Everything on point. Built more confidence. Hope I'll take less than 30 sec in subnetting questions.
You’ll get there 😊
Each one teach one sir...this video is spectacular...clear, concise...I love short cuts...
Thank you also for the free education...I couldn't be more appreciative
I will practice until I've absolutely mastered it...then I'll practice some more...
No problem Huseyin...I welcome constructive criticism. A new version will be coming in 2016!
I now understand what subnetting mask and difference of networking id and host id.Video very illustrative.Thank you
Glad it helped Impulse!
This video made a difference in my life I have understood class c with no problems ... Thanks big man
It is really very good & wonderful video for ip address and subnet mask. I enjoy this video. Thank you very much.
+Raja M ...thanks Raja!
Thanks so much Teacher! I'm currently a banker trying to initiate a career transitioning to IT.... but despite the fact that I'm still very green in computer networking, you made this course so easy and interesting for me to understand. I've subscribed to your channel and hope to be thoroughly bred by you. Thanks again.
Welcome MOA! I know you will do great 👍
Love the direct approach, delivery, and down to earth attitude. Takes the the "geek" out of this field. Thank You!
You are awesome, I wish all instructors were like you. I needed a miracle to get this and you are it sir!
Thanks hodan!...I'm glad I was able to help.
You have a gift to teach. I love how you change your tone of voice to get points across and it's really helping me in my Networking class. Thank you!!!!
thank you for your explanation; you did a much better job at explaining subnet masking to my students than i could've done.
WOW!...coming from a colleague, it's much appreciated! 😉
you're welcome. i plan on using you for my networking class for those things i have a hard time explaining :) :) the students liked you, too. a lot of them saved your video.
This was a Brilliant video. Explained it all in a way that was practical and I could understand. Thank you so much for this!
You're welcome Heath!

Thank you Zaahir...and may God bless you too!
You are senior indeed,I understand it better than the lectures I learn from college
Just watched this for extra help in a class I'm taking. I would like to say thank you for taking the time to do this video. Extremely big help.
I hope it helped you pass! 📚
Still one of the most amazing videos and professors. Always share it with my peers who are looking to learn subnetting better.
Thanks Chris, I appreciate it!
when mr.clean gets technical....but for real, great instruction.
Mr Clean is alive and well 😎...and ready to rock-'n'-roll 😉
Mr Clean is alive and well 😎...and ready to rock-'n'-roll 😉
Loved this video!!! Testing on 3/3/16 for IP addresses and Subnetting for CCNT and this is by far the best. I expect to ace the test! Thanks Laz
this guy saved my schoolyear. explained very clearly. Not like my teacher did
the true king of subnetting! Thank you soooo much for this!
Thanks for the help!! Mental blockade thanks to learning networking in a foreign language ... I just needed to learn it from an awesome teacher in English
