I wish i could have a classroom for my homeschooled children like these i see on YT. I also dream of using Abeka. Nevertheless, im greatful for being able to jomeschool them using my local virtual school system. Its better than nothing. 🤷🏾♀️
It looks like you got the set for doing accredited or unaccredited abeka (your student watched videos for each subject so you are not teaching). The video manual is for those who do abeka being taught by the videos abeka provides so you would not be the teacher. If you're going to do parent led where you're doing the teaching you will need the curriculum lesson plans guides for each subject, which are spiral bound. If you do go with abeka try to get those second hand because they're expensive. Honestly, except for maybe math (which it sounds like you're not doing anyways), you don't really need all the teacher keys at this age, though you already have them, but you would need the curriculum lesson plans (at least for language arts/arithmetic. I don't think you need them for the other subjects and I don't personally use them for any of the other subjects). Abeka can be a lot but you certainly don't need to do everything if you don't want to. I definitely pick and choose what I use and how I use it 😊. I was so scared of what I had heard about abeka being so heavy and rigorous that I did not even look into it when I first started homeschooling- I wanted nothing to do with it. But I heard someone say that a curriculum is a tool, not your master. You can use it however you want. So when everything I had picked was not working that's when I decided to look into abeka. I approach abeka with that perspective. I don't do any of the tests and quizzes. I don't have any of the teacher keys. I basically just use the lesson plans book and the student workbook and I have some of the charts and flashcards for phonics that I think are helpful. I'll be doing abeka for everything except math with my k5 & 2nd grader next year. I'll be using the history, science and health second grade readers family style as read alouds/discussion with all my kids. When you feel free to make abeka your own it is such a great curriculum. I'm not trying to tell you you have to use abeka because there are so many great curriculums out there. But I don't like to see people not choose abeka because it's too much- because it doesn't have to be😊 - Sarah

I was getting ready to message my Abeka support person because I thought I was missing teachers manuals 😂 I looked through the video manual book and notice it does not cover all subjects. So I assume the video lessons are only for specific subjects and then I am meant to teach the subjects not covered by videos? They asked if I would like the accredited or unaccredited. I chose unaccredited because I wasn’t sure if we would stick with Abeka or use it as more of a supplement. But I am honestly so impressed with what I’m seeing from this package I might just stick it out!!
@@Heavenlyhomeschool accredited and unaccredited are both using the videos. Unaccredited gives you more freedom to adapt, accredited is pretty rigid. But if you're not planning to do the videos at all ( which a lot of people don't, including myself) then you are parent led. That's how I prefer it but the videos can be a good option if you can't or don't want to be the main teacher. And you're welcome! I love talking all things homeschool.
@@jamesramsay3365 I’m wondering if I should try out the videos and see how my daughter does? Do the videos explain what page she should be on and which activities she is doing? Or am I planning all that out ahead of time? It would be nice to throw my daughter on a video while I work with my 3 year old, but not sure how independent my 6 year old would be without me 😂
@@Heavenlyhomeschool I hope you got the answer but if not that manual tells you what pages she will need to go along with that days lessons. Look at the bottom of the worksheets/student books and they also have it labeled as to what lesson it goes with. Also the videos teach ALL subjects if you got the entire grade which for the price it should be the entire grade for all 170 lessons.
@@thecraftingnewb It took me forever but after I flipped through all the pages in the video guide book, I finally found it! I love how it has all of the lessons laid out in a daily format. Do you know if I am allowed to move ahead with the video lessons? Like if she wants to do two language lessons in a day instead of just 1?
I started cursive with my kindergartener this year but very minimal. The Abeka seems to have printing and cursive together for a lot of the pages! Pretty interesting
@@Heavenlyhomeschool his son was doing cursive in Pre-K and they learned printing in 2nd grade. His daughter had attend public school up to that point had to 4th grade and they didn't teach them cursive at the public school she attended so she had to be taught. They homeschool their kids now and I don't know how they do it
@@mistybethune9116 that’s so interesting! I taught public school in Florida from 2013-2020 and they stopped including cursive in our curriculum 😭 My 5th graders begged me to teach it to them! They thought it was “cool” lol
@@Heavenlyhomeschool I'm in my late 30s and due to issues with my hands I struggle with printing so they decided I didn't need to learn cursive in 2nd grade when we started learning it, but my younger brother taught me later when I was in high school and he was in 5th grade. I still struggle with some the harder letters to write but it's neater than my print. I'm in school now I guess you could say I'm a homeschooler my program is 100 percent online
You can definitely do more than one lesson in a day with tg&tb. 😂😂 Also you should have did the placement test. Levels don’t equal grades 😉

My daughter is just 4 years old and she learned cursive with Foundations curriculum. I highly recommend is so easy.😅

I have been using Abeka with my 3 year old, and she is reading blends already, I absolutely love Abeka !
I feel like I used to hear such negative talk about Abeka being too dry, rigorous, etc. but lately I’m seeing much more positives!!! Love to hear this

I would be surprised cursive in kindergarten but my cousin sent his kids to a private school where they learned cursive first
