    I appreciate a review that can report more than just megapixels or sensor size. I really like to know the experience of using both cameras in a real world setting, and the surprising benefits of one over another given one's preferences. I recently bought the G15 and am very pleased with it. I hope you will have time to describe it's time lapse and lens attachment features in another video.

    Yes custom white balance can be set in Video Mode. There's even a preset for underwater if you don't want to set a custom.

    I've now seen so many reviews of the RX100, and I think at some point every single review has given it a plus point that another review gave it a minus in it's capabilities.
    By the way the macro shots shown on MRcheesycam's vid, I'm not sure why he couldn't get the shot there because I've managed to get countless crystal clear very well focused with depth shots with the RX'.
    All in all, this camera has no rivals (not a fanboy here) for size, image/video quality, looks & build.

    I can try, but there are some other great articles out there on both of these cameras. I will be doing another timelapse with the G15 soon using a new motion controlled motorized Timelapse slider.

    I wish I had this G15 earlier for Photoplus, the lens is really amazing. Very hard to find a lens with this focal distance + wide aperture combination + macro focusing in a single camera.

    Check out the 'MagFilter threaded adapter'. I have used this to mount a wide angle lens adapter to the camera for a wider field of view.

    Bought one as a cheap pocket camera to complement my Pentax K5ii and E-pl3. In-camera Jpegs are superb, so good I stopped shooting raw. The fast lens keeps the ISO low most of the time and the IS is the best I've used yet! 1/15 is possible without a tripod and there's no IS blur effect (unlike the E-pl3 & my old E-pl1). Anyway I'm so happy with it, my E-pl3 is now up for sale. Stills & movie quality are great and the G15 is a pleasure to shoot with. Also works flawlessly with my Nissin Di466

    This video is my personal view, and I always use off camera flashes. I find all the in-camera flashes to be in sufficient for my needs. I did try it from the G15 as fill flash with my subject's back towards the sun, and it was decent enough in RAW to later expose in LR.

    There are other things to consider for a travel camera than just sensor size. For myself, sensor size is least on my list for a Travel Camera. My iPhone has a much smaller sensor than both the G15 and RX100, and I use it more than any other high end camera I own.
    I find the images acceptable on both cameras, so the additional features of the G15 allow me to do more, and are better than the RX100 when I travel. If I want to use a large sensor camera, I have a mirrorless or DSLR.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  12 лет назад

    The sensor and processor may be the same, but the lens of the G12 is much better and can maintain a wide aperture through its focal length. This translates to better bokeh and better low light performance. The S110 is mainly targeted as a super pocketable camera, while the G15 has more prosumer features like hotshoe, remote shutter input, etc.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  11 лет назад

    Fortunately I own both, so I feel I have my bases covered for whatever subject matter. There will probably never be a perfect camera that will suit 100% of the people. Everyone requires something different and it's great to see so many options available.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  12 лет назад

    The HX9V doesn't allow for white balance in movie mode, unless you choose one of the 'scenes'. Switch to ISO scene and then you'll find white balance options.

  • @Tacuddin
    @Tacuddin 11 лет назад

    You're forgetting the size difference between the two. The rx100 is a true pocketable camera aimed at a different market. For the same size and price of a g15 I can get a micro four thirds camera like epl5 if size wasnt a concern.

  • @TomZentra
    @TomZentra 11 лет назад +1

    It's because consumers are replacing P&S cameras with cell phones. Canon, Nikon, Kodak, and others have reported huge drops in sales. The decline was so bad for Kodak that they had to discontinue ALL of their cameras. Also, Canon lost many G series customers who switched to Sony RX cameras.

  • @TequilaThunder

    PLEASE, make a video about these "tricks" that you mention at 5:55 (for video shooting with the Canon's). This would apply to all the Canon's that give exposure lock (but nothing more) for manual control (sx230, s100, s110, all G's etc). This would be a great thing to know. I didn't know you can shift exposure's once locked (?). This would be mega informative and would relate to numerous models. Thanks.

    Hey, thanks for the review its really helpful. I read some reviews talking more about a G12 rather than G15 because of its speed. Don't know how true is that. I am even considering the new G16. Which one would be the best choice among three. I do love the background blur feature a lot. And would like to get a DSLR quality images and don't even have to carry an extra bag for a camera.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  11 лет назад

    The adapter will let you use only two other lenses. One enhances macro function, and the other a slight zoom. It will not allow you to use just any lens on the market, just the other two options from Canon.

    Don't forget G15 wins external flash, or can trigger flashes wirelessly, and can accept additional lens adapters for additional telephoto or macro, and wins in Price.

    The S95 is a good camera, not as good as the RX100. The RX100 is a great camera for both pics and video.
    Me personally - I wanted a small travel camera to do Timelapse with, and the RX100 CANNOT do Timelapse. Only the G15 can do timelapse. I have both cameras.

    Thanks! Went to BestBuy and played with it, couldn't take a movie to compare its image stabilization to my Sony HX30v. But the white balance in movie is much easier to use than the NEX 5N, which me and the sales reps can't figure out as well!

  • @MrCheesyCam

    If you are planning to do Makeup tutorials for RUclips (internet videos) the G15 is cheaper and the video quality is great for such projects. The file sizes will be smaller and easier to edit also.

  • @MrRoosterx
    @MrRoosterx 11 лет назад +1

    Although i appreciate that you compare the rx100 with a physical bigger camera, but at the same time it is still two totally different cameras, bought probably for different reasons, and i would claim that the rx100 is still the best compact camera you can get atm, if you go to that bulky size you might aswell compare the G15 to a cheap dslr.

    You forgot to mention in term of built in flash, i would prefer the rx100 flash alot better than the g15. Where with rx100 you can bounce with built in flash, which g15 can't and its a big benefit for casual indoor photo. Not to forget that canon G series built in flash is very harsh.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  11 лет назад

    If it's for someone else, you may want to think about what they need from the camera. If she does not plan to use off camera flash, or time lapse photos, the RX100 is a very pocketable camera.

  • @paulomoreira007
    @paulomoreira007 11 лет назад

    Thank you for your very informative video and your opinion. However, for me, you skipped some important points, such image quality, response in raw mode, burst modes, etc, etc. I am thinking of buying the RX100 and I do like Canon's G models, but for me, the biggest disappointement on both models is the 28 mm starting zoom, it just doesn't cut it for such ambitious models. I am leaning more to the Sony because of the size and here in Portugal both cameras cost the same.

  • @tartopom72
    @tartopom72 11 лет назад

    Good review but anyway, prefering the Sony RX100 over Canon G15, not only for sensor reason but because of it's size. I already have a Nikon D5100 so if I want more versatility I just take my bag with my gear and lenses with me. G15 is good if you don't have any DSLR and you don't care about size/portability.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  11 лет назад

    I have both cameras and enjoy both cameras, but the Sony RX100 is better in only 'some ways', not 'all ways'. How do you perform timelapse with the Sony RX100? The G15 does this with ease.

  • @MrCheesyCam
    @MrCheesyCam  11 лет назад

    The G15 runs for $400, the RX100 for $550+. Find me a DSLR that is the same price with a lens that has the same focal distance and is still just as compact. I will consider comparing the G15 to that. Unfortunately there isn't one available yet, so as far as comparing Price + Size a DSLR is still incredibly large and more expensive.

    Sony was better at the time, bigger sensor and better for low light, canon had the edge on zoom.
    Now the sony rx100 111 has come out at a stupidity ridiculous price, nobody wants to pay twice the price for the same camera with a bloody viewfinder.
    The lumix tz100 is the best there is now.
    Slightly larger but still pocketsble, 250 mm equivalent zoom, so good for birding and longer distance shots.
    4k video that is smooth and free of moire like virtually all dslrs suffer badly from

    The Sony RX100 has a 2.8x bigger sensor and thats a big reason to buy RX100 instead of G15.
    Due to the big sensor ther are almost none advantage of the f2.8 aperture on the G15 at telephoto vs RX100 f4,9.
    Both in therms of light gathering(you can rise the iso higher on RX100 and still have better quality) and dof they are about equal.
    At wide angles RX100 has a big advantage.
    RX100 also have better image quality i raw with better hig ISO, better dynamic range and image detailes.

      If you want good image quality get a camera with a big sensor. The sony nex 3n is $300 and has the same size sensor as a DSLR. The olympus epm2 for $399 which is a micro 4/3 sensored camera. Micro 4/3 sensor a wayyy bigger than canon g16's sensor. The olympus epm2 is also bundled with two lens on amazon. The image quality, dynamic range, high iso performance is wayyy better than g16. Another added bonus is that those two cameras are not muchigger than g16, it really depends on what lens you put on them. The autofocus system on both of those cameras are lightning quick also.

      Different cameras for different reasons.
      The G16 is still much cheaper by a few hundred dollars, though larger in size.
      You still cannot add a shutter remote to the RX100 M2 for Timelapse, but you can for the G16 cheesycam.com/canon-powershot-g15-compact-vacation-time-lapse-camera/
      The Canon G16 also offers optional lenses that can attached seen here: goo.gl/kJeQAt
      If you just want a straight pocketable camera, good photos and good video, and have the extra money, go for the RX100 M2.

    price not bad. G15 viewfinder no good. Very small sensor - even the Fuji X20 has both larger sensor and lens just as fast. Nice colors in the Fuji X20. The smaller aperture looses any vantage with that small sensor. Yes more buttons on Sony would be nice but it's real advantage is it's small size. I have both RX100 and X20 as found both better then G15 and X20 has a usable viewfinder. Both X20 and RX100 better in video.
    Canon is good for Canon bigots and price is good.

    I do not think the G15 is doing well - I do not see anyone with one - the G15 is so heavy and bulky - no one needs a hot shoe with a point and shoot :) - I find that I have all the main settings at my fingertip on RX100 - just program it - the key here is that the RX100 is a true point and shoot - G15 is not - the only thing I would want to see is a brighter lens at zoom on the RX100 - The Nikon P7700 is more of a comparison with the G15 - still G15 is good but for size RX100 wins
