The batter was very clearly not “alert to the pitcher” with 8 seconds left. So if he would’ve thrown the pitch with one second left the umps probably would’ve said he was in violation of the Scherzer rule. Even though they should’ve gotten the batter for a pitch clock violation, cause he wasn’t “alert to the pitcher” with 8 seconds left.

The game is going to get really boring if the replace umps with computers. Half of baseball fun is controversies like this and going over the rules. If the umps make excessive mistakes on certain plays, like check swing, then just add it to the list of reviewable calls. Watching your videos shows the umps do a very good job on almost everything.

Google MLB attendance from 1995 - 2020...significant dropoff. MLB was circling the drain. Now at least they are staying afloat...

If you think ejections are why 2023 had the highest attendance since 2017 (and 2024 is shaping up to be higher) I simply don't know what to say. (It's the pitch clock. ...and remember it was created to "speed the game up", right? How are all the arguments associated with the pitch clock "speeding up the game", exactly? On average, times to complete games are down since before the advent of the pitch so, I guess it's working...at the same time, I wonder how the beer companies feel about the reduction in sales with a quicker game now?

A balk for throwing to un-occupied 3rd with a player taking a lead on 2nd seems extremely harsh. He's part of the way to 3rd, not standing on 2nd so that seems demostratably the "runner intending to go to third". If he didn't want to look like he's going to 3rd, he should be standing on 2nd.
I would say its pretty clear there was no intention to go to third by the runner. You can see at 0:52 that the runner is going back to second before the pitcher gets anywhere close to committing to a base.

Does this balk ever come up with a pitcher who sees a runner leading from 1st and turns to throw to 2nd but gets called because the runner at 1st went back to the bag instead of going to 2nd?
No one stands on a base when the pitcher is getting ready to throw. Everyone takes at least a small lead. It looked like a normal lead to me, not like someone preparing to steal.

Batter looked to be in violation of the Contreras rule. He did not have eye contact with the pitcher.
The batter isn't facing the pitcher though, shouldn't that have been a violation on the batter since he's not alert at 8 seconds?
