    Mitch, just came across your channel yesterday and just wanted to thank you for the content you make. I’m slowly getting into music recording and mixing as a hobby, and so I am in the early days of building my own “studio”. I too have the DIY mindset and am learning to solder and desolder, which I hope in time will come in handy when I do start to acquire some analog gear. Anyway, great to see another Aussie putting out content for us to learn from and get some ideas and inspiration. Cheers!😊

    I also am a geek DIYER . I totally agree the rewards out weigh the cost benefits. I enjoy your videos . Unfortunately I need surgery on my hand and I will have to wait till next year to do any more projects. I will be watching more of your videos while recovering. Thank You

      Thanks for the positive comment. I’ll have plenty more coming. I’m sorry to hear you have to have surgery, but you can line up some future projects I’m sure 😄

    your journey is so similar to mine. i am now at the point where if finished my first builds, 2 preamps, i have next two diy eq's coming in to start on soon. i'm also already fantasizing about building a desk myself when i have all my modules finished it should fit 3 racks of 10x 500series units and some larger 1U units like my audio interface etc.. so i'm looking forward to see how you did that. and it all started with some rockwool panels haha

    I am still thinking about what to start with before I do. The pocket has to be right I have so much going on with building my new studio. I am building the walls and making sure is up to par with how studio walls are built from the j side to the outside. I will like to see some comparisons of your diy gear to some of the more affordable and the original creation hardware. Anyway great vid and thank you for sharing

    Just getting into the DIY and can highly recommend! I found your channel through the VP28 and MP573 builds - I ended up building 4 of each and am loving it! (I play drums so I needed a lot
    😅)

      Woah that’s so awesome. What are you using each of the pres on specifically? That’s 8 excellent preamps to record drums with!

      @@diyrecordingstudioJust now saw this, YT wasn't showing me replies to comments (rude, youtube)! So far I have had the most fun putting the VP28's on the close mics (kick, snare, toms) and using the MP573 on overheads and rooms. I have been loving them!

    I feel really conflicted considering DIY. I'm just a hobbyist, and the challenge has been finding the time to actually work with music. I'm also frankly not very good. If I messed something up, I might not even know and will just have a $400 DIY piece of gear that doesnt sound as good as it can. I'm an engineer by trade, and although soldering sounds like it will be fun, I feel my limited free time should go towards making the music instead. I'm curious if there are other people in the community who feel the same way.

      @diyrecordingstudio  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah you have a point. It does take away time to build these things.
      However if you’re wanting to learn more about the gear and learn a new skill it’s great. And you can then repair things if they ever break.
      I have a recent video on correct soldering technique and tools if you need help with that in particular.

      @@diyrecordingstudio I really wanna try building some CAPI models, not because they are cheaper but because they have BIG led indicators and transformer at the same time…..somehow I really want BIGGER led signal indicators, such as what Sound Devices USBpre has……

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  4 месяца назад

      The CAPI pres are great. They can be cleaner if you use them gentle but can get gritty if you drive the input. They never sound bad!

    Man, i love your videos, really inspiring content. However, i am always on the fence in regards to the overall quality of the sound of DIY units. I also have some DIY gear such as Capi and AML but, i have not yet compared them to their counterpart. Have you? I think the learing process of building units is invaluable but without a comparison its difficult to gauge the overall strenght of a DIY unit. Take for example the U87 mic and the Studio production mic you made, have you compared how close they are? Its really a strange thing because, sound is really subjective to all of us. Also, this mod is from micparts who also own the company roswell mics.This makes me somewhat skeptical, why would this mod cost so little and Roswell mics cost a lot more, of course the DIY aspect brings the overall production costs down but i can't Imagine they use the same parts at Roswell yet charge a premium to build them. I would be intrested in what your opinion is?

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  4 месяца назад

      Great question! You're right, at the end of the day a lot of this is subjective. I have however been able to compare my neve and api clones against the real thing. They sound the same. I have compared the u87 modded mic to a real one. It is shockingly close to the real thing the only major difference is the real u87 has better rejection. Frequency wise the lowend is extended a bit more in the clone. In a shootout i did, no one could tell the difference unless i pointed it out. Some clones are great, almost identical, others are different but still cool and useful!

    i love DIY and cloning stuffs, Thats why I choose my first DIY microphone build (Focusrite Microphone clone), I've already ordered all the components from China. after they arrive to my doorstep i'll put them all together and feel the test of my first diy microphone.
    can i get the U87/AKG C414 Microphone schemetic that you build ? I want to build a LDC microphone.
    the main barrier of DIY Projects is that i live in bangladesh, where i cant find the components that i need to build. if i want to build a mic, i have to import them from China. and it takes a lot of time.
    can you please review some Microphone Capsules from Ali Express ? like CK12 style, R87, R67 Etc.
    the main thing is i can't afford to buy original capsules.
    (sorry for my poor english)

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  4 месяца назад +1

      Your English is excellent. Unfortunately I can’t give you the schematics of any of the diy mics. They aren’t my intellectual property. There are plenty of forums where you might find what you’re looking for. Try the groupdiy forums. They should have lots of options.
      Your capsule shootout is a great idea! I will keep that in mind

      Yeah the CAPI ones? They just went on sale again. There’s some pretty affordable 10 slot racks out there now.
